The Queen of the Night is starting to bloom again. It will be in full glory about 2 a.m. About 40 flowers this time around.

Some new landscaping going in on a place down the street. They renovated the existing house there and upgraded the design to "modernize" it. Complete transformation! The old house's design looked awful, IMHO.

Wouldn't surprise me if it goes right on the market when the work is done. If it does I will post again with the listing webpage.

Man I hate the use of rock in a landscape. Oh well....I have no dog in this hunt!

The tire tracks are from the turtle patrol which looks for fresh sea turtle nests each morning so they can partition them off from the public until after the eggs all hatch.

Last night at the Zach Bryan concert in Notre Dame Stadium. His genre is not my genre and I had no previous clue who he was but I went because my daughters and wife are fans. Pretty cool venue for a massive concert and acoustics were really good.

Shane Gillis was one of the pre-performers. He’s definitely not my style either so I went to get concessions, but from what I gathered from my fam, his mama and his mama’s mama should be embarrassed with his set!

Hey @Bazza ... question about this bird of paradise we have beside the house. I spent some of the day thinning it out. It was once a single small plant. Now it's a monster about 15' tall. Got to wondering if being this close to the house is problematic. What kind of root system to the birds have? Is there a danger of the roots undermining the foundation? If so, I'll have to move the plant someplace where it won't cause problems. Any suggestions? Would you advise I move the plant? Thanks.

Yep.....they all start that way.

Don't feel bad. When I started doing landscaping - just one example and there are more..... I really loved to use Hibiscus on my jobs. At least one - and sometimes more. But at least one. Well after coming back to the job a couple years later I realized that is a plant that shouldn't be used up by the house any where. Put them somewhere else in the side yard where they will still be seen but not be an encumbrance to the owner.

The other thing about Hibiscus, for example, is when they are pruned, you won't see any new flowers until they reflush with new foliage - because they bloom on the new growth - not the old growth. So if you're constantly pruning it you cannot benefit from the reason you plant it anyway. So lesson learned is do not plant them where they will need constant pruning.

Getting back to your White Bird......they have fairly stout root systems One that size won't be easy to dig up - but it can be done. I suggest using a sawzall pruner with a sharpened digging shovel. Even then that's gonna be a bear. Maybe enlist the help of a local landscaper, IMHO.

The sooner the better too because that baby is gonna keep growin'!

Or just keep pruning it back - the roots system won't hurt the house but after a while you'll get sick of seeing something planted too close to your house and the maintenance needed because of that.
