It has been brought to our attention that "lilhokies" attempt to change the character of our board has become popular on what appears to be the only viable VT board and he's being urged to try to circumnavigate our board rules by re-registering and disrupting. This is unfortunate for the VT fans who want to participate in honest discussions of the two teams, because we will ramp up our efforts to keep our board a Bama board and one which reads the way we've come to expect and enjoy it over the years. We're mostly interested in what the Bamanation thinks and feels. Other fan bases come in a distant second. Or third. Therefore, the trigger will become a bit quicker on suspect posts and threads by rival fans. This will continue to be a BAMA board, by and for Bama fans...

Thank you, this is a Bama site and when a rival shows up they need to wipe their shoes at the door and take their hat off.

It's way to early to have to post a warning like this. What a sad state of affairs. Hopefully from here on out it'll be football talk and just football talk.

We have some very good rival fans who have posted on our boards for years. They have gained our respect not because they sucked up to us but because of how they conducted themselves. Many of them will tell you one of us has taken up for them at some time or another. It's a pity when the actions of a few ruin things for the rest of the fans. This is an Alabama Crimson Tide fan board and trying to hammer a rival idea into our head isn't going to happen.

I don't know that I've seen another school so poorly represented so far before a game. As the just-deleted poster stated on his own board - "[FONT=Arial,Helvetica]They just need some VTizzle up in that piece. **"

Well said my brother, well said...RTR

From reading what appears to be their only board, they're fixated on TF. They probably don't understand that there are a lot of Bama boards out there, a good many of which will let them say whatever they want to say, whenever they want to say it. That seems to suit their style. They need to do a little net research and find those boards. It's not hard...

Judging by the way the VT fans are behaving themselves thus far, I have a feeling that it will be a very long five months.

Or, perhaps, a very quiet one, if you catch my drift...

"Kill all they send. Eventually they'll stop sending them."

It's really quite immature and juvenile. Grow up and talk football.

To re-iterate, this is by far the best Bama site anywhere because of the Admins and Mods. Roll Tide.

I'm stunned at how many replies lilhokie is getting and how upset they are about it. As I told him, it's his fault and he needs to get over it.

Hokies seem to be like barners...alot of them have a serious inferiority complex.

Imagine living amongst them. I hear it 24/7 365 days a year. Actually, the older Hokie fans, those that remember when an 8-4 season and a birth in the Peach Bowl was a great year, are pretty reasonable and proud (justifiably) of what they have been able to accomplish. It's the younger breed that don't know how to carry themselves.

About 5 or 6 years ago, I'm in Lane Stadium with some of my Hokie buddies. I can't remember who they are playing, but VT was heavily favored. They're up like 14 points in the fourth quarter, when they turn the ball over. These young Hokie fans sitting behind me, they may have been students, start bad-mouthing the player and coaches. So I turn to them and say "Dude, you're up 14 points, you got it in the bag." And this was his response, no joke. "That's unacceptable. We are accustomed to excellence." And that, my friends, is a microcosm of their attitude.

Thank God for Tidefans, it's my only sanctuary from this madness.

I want to thank the mods on Tidefans. It has seemed like an infestation the past few days and it wasn't much fun to wade through the bad just to read the good. Their behavior was so familiar I wondered if some may have been barn fans in disguise. All of you do an excellent job and your efforts are appreciated. Anyway, thanks again as I tell everyone this is THE best site on the web.

Not meant as a slam of all young people, but IMO a lot of the bad behavior and arrogance among football fan bases (including Alabama's) in the stadium and on the intenet forum is from the younger set. They have grown up in the electronic mail age and tend to feel that because they are anonymous except for a username they can say what they want. I am afraid it is a sign of the times.

I believe that you have a good point. I work with some Hokie fans that are really good people, and are very sharp football guys. But they are not kids by any means. I wish that they would post here.
I must say this too. I cannot remember their names, but there are some LSU fans that are regulars here, and I really enjoy reading their insight from a diffarent side. But these guys have a lot of insight and know what they are talking about. And they are also much more respectful that the little Hokie from yesterday.

I think you are both correct. With the gentleman, in the private exchange we had, where I urged him to modify his behavior, there was a strong overtone of his having the feeling that he had an "entitlement," an absolute right to act any way he pleased...

I will have to disagree with you on the younger people thing, though we as younger fans have our share. It has been my experience that age has nothing to do with how you act at a game or on the internet. I have known plenty of older people who get on the internet and are just as annoying and disrespectful as others. That has just been my experience. I think the reason it is a sign of the times is that there are just so many more ways to hear about it now than previous generations.

As far as this thread goes, it is disappointing to read about people's negative interactions with the VT people. My dad and I went to the first Music City bowl when VT beat us badly and the VT fans we interacted with before and after the game were good folks and were very gracious about the win. This was before the start of their recent success, but it still makes me a bit sad to see this. You would think that people who take the time to post on another teams board would want to be friendly, since they took the time to find another teams board, but who knows.

My perspective is that

being a VT fan we do have a great fanbase and respect our opponents. We also realize it's 2009 and VT is the defending ACC champions. A lot of Alabama fans have been looking past us and declaring victory before the game has been played. I, along with other VT fans, feel that we are the favorite and better program at this point in time. No disrespect to this board, other users, or Alabam's program, just in the past 5 years VT's success has been > Alabamas IMO. Good luck in September and I look forward to it.
