The Sophomores: Roster Analysis

This is one of the guys who haven't really got it yet about Trent Richardson. Let Richardson break off four or five of his patented thirty-yarders, and this guy will suddenly get it.

Nick Gentry was the wheel hoss on the Prattville defense that destroyed Julio Jones' Foley team. Every time you looked up, Gentry's side of the defensive line was collapsing the pocket, so quickly that the Foley QB could not even get the ball off. I did ask a coach from the Montgomery area who he thought was better at Prattville, Gentry or Bobby Greenwood. He said Greenwood.

I said after I saw Mark Barron play football and run track in high school that this guy is a future all-American. He is a great all-around athlete. I suppose the issue with him has been to learn the intricate Saban defensive backfield schemes. Mark Barron will jar your bones if he tackles you, and he is all over the field -- in a hurry. He has that intangible knack for being around the ball -- and moving it downfield when he gets his hands on it.

I like Robby Green. This guy is going to be a smart, in-the-right-place-at-the-right-time type of player. He reminds me of Bryant and Stallings players.

I agree basically about B. J. Scott. This guy has too much ability and character not to make his mark at Alabama.

I don't know if I missed something, but what did he say about Trent? The only thing I really saw was that he was going to be "biting at (Ingram's) heels".

In short, in my opinion, it is the sophomores that provide so much of the promising depth on our team - and also the promise of real, experienced depth come next year. This is why we will be just as scary (if not more) in 2010.

It is startling to look at how young of a team we actually have. Guys like Rolando and Kareem and Mike Johnson make one forget that. Then again, if Ro and some others decide to actually come back next year, oh my, look out!
