Game Thread: **OFFICIAL** UCLA vs Tennessee Game (And Post-Game) Thread

Nothing like a UT loss to make for a lovely Saturday afternoon.

You got that right! :biggrin2: I'm still surprised the number one recruit in the universe was unable to rescue the greatest coach in the universe..:conf2:

Well, UCLA is quite the powerhouse so this was probably just a speed bump.

Crompton was Crompton. The running game was the only thing that kept us in it and it was nothing to brag about. Hardesty and Brown made some yards out of nothing. That was about the only positive. 3 picks and a fumble on 4 straight possessions, you can't win games like that.

The defense has been what we would expect.

Only 2 penalties and held UCLA to less than 200 total yards (186).

Time to get ready for the Swamp. I am hoping for a good game, but not banking on it at all.

Methinks Lane is about to get his arse handed to him on a silver platter by the Gators. If your QB doesn't get himself under better control, that Gator defense is going to have an absolute field day.

Y'all better just hunker down and hope to not suffer too many injuries.

But Lane will still have people talking about Tennessee, maybe not in the most positive way though. :)

If y'all haven't taken a peek at Volchat yet, you need to. That board is in almost complete meltdown. Just like all of us predicted, Kiffin's big talk would mean absolutely nothing once reality set in after their first loss. I tell you this, I'd hate to be Jonathan Crompton this week. He's been completely thrown under the bus by the UT fan base and now their coming at Kiffin and demanding change.

I bet Urban Meyer is foaming at the mouth...

Two points:

* Crompton deserves the attention that he is getting. QBs get the praise when they or their team plays well. They also get ripped when they or their team does not. Crompton was HORRIBLE yesterday. He will get ripped for it, and that is the way this sport works. (Don't think for a second that the Bama fan base wouldn't do this)

* The fan base needs to stop interfering with the program. They will never move forward when they have to avoid all of these landmines before they walk on the field. (Again, the Bama fan base has tasted some of this and seen how it hurts the program)

If UT is anything other than 1-2 after next week most, if not all, will be hugely surprised. The key to this season is going to be how we respond the rest of the year after Florida. The UCLA loss is hard to take.

This season is not done and over with at this point by any means. There is still 10 games to play, including 8 SEC games.

From reading what I have this morning and last night, everyone is down on Crompton because when he is interviewed he will not take any blame for his bad play. He sounds like a coach talking and trying to do everything he can to keep his confidence in himself. That is why I think everyone is so down on him. Many are wanting Stephens on the field now. Will that be a good change? Doubtful. There has been 2 coaching staffs that both have thought Crompton was better than Stephens. Both staffs also had Coleman behind both of them. I just have a hard time believing that both staffs have missed that Stephens is the better QB. When Fulmer was here he and his staff did a pretty good job at picking the right QBs. Manning over Stewart, Ainge over Schaeffer, Clausen over Suggs. I think Fulmer and staff did a pretty good job at choosing QBs.

I knew when the team lost their first game the fan base would go nuts. I don't agree with the ones going nuts already. I think CLK and staff get 2-3 years, unless we take a step back (3-4 wins). Right now we are thin at OL, next year will be even worse. We will have some OL, but they will be very young.

Hopefully we can ride the defense and running game and get a few wins. With no passing game, the running game will be hard to come by as well. If we can go 6-6 that will be an improvement over last year.

I liked Fulmer, and knew it was time for change, but I don't know how the depth chart got so depleted.

Kiffin was asked on the Lane Kiffin Show this morning about going to the Swamp and he said Florida is the most talented team in the country if not the most talented team ever.

The Revised Expectations Headliner almost cost me my key board.

Not being nasty or anything but what did the UT fans expect? Please! If you know anything about football you know a first year coach isn't going to run the tables. You know that will not happen. It has only a couple of times in history and one that I remember was when Jackie Sherrill who replaced Johnny Majors at Pittsburgh.

Coach Jackie Sherrill:

Sherrill was known as a master strategist, technician, and motivator on the football field, and as head coach for the University of Pittsburgh, he and his team had three consecutive years with 11-1, 11-1, and 11-1 records. He had recruited a number of high school players who eventually turned pro, including Tony Dorsett and Hugh Green, and Sherrill turned Pittsburgh into a national powerhouse
.

Point being a Alabama man did that. Lane Kiffin is no Jackie Sherrill and never will be. You have to know what you are doing and he does not. Lane's father Monte's defense look good, not great but good. The UT offense failed the entire game. Yet, I do not care. Put Monte in as Head Coach then I start taking a look. :BigA:

FYI.....Sherrill did not recruit Dorsett, Johnny Majors did.

Yeah I remember all of that as well. But if I'm not mistaken, it was Majors who actually turned Pitt around which was an amazing feat on par with the job CHS did at Miami. So Sherrill did a great job but it was Majors who did the dirty work. Before him Pitt was the equal of a Temple level program, if even that.

Kiffin has said this over and over. He hasn't put a time table on the team returning to being really good. He has said "we will be good, when we are good". He hasn't put a number on wins, publicly anyway.

I think Kiffin knows it will take time. He has said USC was 5-7 their first year there. Bama was 6-6, regular season under Saban in year one.

I think the fan base has put the expectations there, not the coaches. After the win over WKU everyones hopes sky rocketed. We beat them they way we should have beat them, the way nearly any SEC team should have beat them.

I think all the freshmen CLK is playing shows that his expectations aren't ridiculous.

The difference is in the way a fan base reacts. Bama fans were prepared for a rough first season under Saban, and he told the rest to either become a part of the solution or shut the heck up, because they were a part of the problem...
