I hope our Offense is heavily "Ingram" oriented the next few weeks.

I really hope we give Ingram at least 20 to 25 carries per game, the next few weeks. I think there is potential against the upcoming defenses for BIG yardage on the ground. I think Ingram is close to setting a few records, and I would LOVE to see it happen for the kid.

agreed. but i would like to see upchurch get the chance to have a 100 yd game against UTC in his last home game.

How would you compare Ingram to Alexander?

Ingram tougher runner, better all around player, better receiver out of backfield, built like the prototypical modern RB

Alexander better pure running back who had the ability to be as good as he wanted to be on any given Saturday, had an uncanny nose for the enzone inside the redzone.

Ingram better all around back?
Alexander better out of the backfield?

Or do you believe Ingram is a better runner out of the backfield too?

I get where you are coming from....the flip side to that is, I think we need to continue to work on diversifying our offense. Greg need to continue to build his confidence and the WR's as well. Ingram shouldn't have to carry the team by himself. We need everyone rested and not getting burned out or injured. FL is a physical defense and we need to be in tip-top shape in Atl. We make through FL we have a real shot at #13. But I also think you are very correct in your opinion. MSU's D is used to having to tackle Dixon in practice though overall I don't think they are that good. Mocs well it is what it is. AU I think Saban will turn him loose, I know Heisman's are not what the team is after but Ingram running like an Apache Indian all over the "Plains" would go aloing way to helping his stock with the voters.

Headline........"Chief Totes the ROCK, destroys Cowboy Gene's Barn out in the Plains."

i don't know about better, but i was absolutely blown away watching the lsu replay when i saw how fast and fluid he hit holes that i couldn't even see. his explosiveness is pretty impressive. and to think, this is his sophomore slump ;)

It's a good thing he has to stay another year or he would be a middle to late first round pick in the next draft.

RB's are like tires, they have only a limited amount of tread and it goes pretty quick. If you're a first round type RB and stay through your senior year, you might be about washed up when the big contract comes around, like the situation Alexander found himself in. I would leave after my sophomore season if the NFL laws allowed.

There is no doubt in my mind that Ingram would excel in the NFL next year. He's already there mentally and physically. Much more mature than Alexander was at this stage.

PUSH...IMO. The game is different now than it was then. Defenses are faster. Smash mouth with Ingram is different than with Alexander. Alexander was one of the best RB I have ever seen about running North and South, and he was big and strong and in a straight line he wasn't very fun to try and tackle(not speaking from personal experience). While Ingram is every bit as good a North and South runner he goes about it a little different. He hits the whole with same ferocity that Alexander would but does what I call getting small in the hole. He has great balance cutting ability but he doesn't lose power when he cuts. In other words what I am trying to say the biggest ADV Ingram has over Alexander is his size, Ingram can fit into seams Alexander could not. OL plays differently for each style as well. A big hole for Ingram is a lot a smaller than a big hole for Alexander. either way there is NO DOUBT about it, Alexander and Ingram will foever be names that come out of BAMA fans' mouths when discussing some of the best RB's to ever out on the Crimson.JMHO

Alexander's speed was deceptive because of his size. Once he had a pretty decent hole, he was going to beat somebody with speed.

I remember the first time I really noticed that was during Coach Stallings last game against Michigan in what was, I think, the Citrus Bowl. He went through the 4 hole and cut outside and the DB's and Linebackers totally underestimated what speed he was traveling, and he scored a 30 yard TD real quick like.

Ingram get's from the backfield to the linebacker's quickly, but get's touched a lot more than Alexander.

Capstone, beg to differ on one point . . . Up til this year, Mark came out of the game on passing downs in favor of Roy. His pass-catching has been an acquired skill and a pleasant surprise.

SA may have been the best receiver on a team that wasn't short on good receivers. Great hands and good routes. IMHO

My hope for the next three games is great balance, leaving Florida with more to plan for than it has time to do.

I agree with needing to be balanced, but with the average team running roughly 60-65 offensive plays, per game, that leaves plenty for the passing game.

As long as it doesn't interfered with Bama's ultimate goal, then I don't really have a problem. Bama really needs to get their passing offense going (the LSU game was a start, but continue improvement is needed) not to mention giving Upchurch and Richardson more touches to get them ready to abuse Florida. I would do no more then 20 touches (unless the game in uncomfortably close).

I think we'll concentrate on solidifying our passing game, but I also fully expect Ingram/Richardson/Upchurch to get their carries.
Saban & McElwain like a balanced offense, so its not going to be too heavy one way or another unless something just isn't working.
I thought it was interesting when BAMA came out passing against LSU, because it did give Ingram a chance to be really fresh in the second half.
I don't think there's any doubt he could have had quite a few, well probably a lot more yards in the first half of that game, but it was a strategy that worked, so I won't question it. Teams know we are a run first team, and thats fine as long as the opposing defense can't stop it. But BAMA has struggled against several good defense's that came in with exactly that gameplan.

I think that is exactly why we came out passing against LSU. Once we established the pass and their safeties and LBs had to back off some to cover the pass, running lanes opened up. Since the OL isn't as overpowering as last year's, against the better SEC defenses we really have to pass to set up the run. As good as Ingram and the other backs are, they can't run against 9 man fronts all the time. So I think if Ingram had gotten more touches in the first half, he probably wouldn't have had as many yards overall and we might have lost. Although, with LSU's offense, I would expect our defense to keep us in it. I think it was a sound strategy, and maybe something we should have tried more against other top SEC defenses.

As far as Ingram's carries for the next three games, I would like to see Ingram and GMac done by the third quarter in all three, hopefully by half-time against UTC.

the lsu game was the first one i listened to on the radio. eli and co. were saying that CJM likes to use the first half play calling to set up the second half or something like that. worked pretty good against the who's

We simply need to fire whichever weapon is loaded.

If Julio's covered...throw to another receiver, if Ingram's struggling give it to Richardson or Upchurch.

You try to recruit a bunch of play makers so you don't have to depend on one or two.

Look at the LSU game. Maze and Hanks catch a few balls, who does that open up? Julio.

Ingram struggles a bit at first so we bring in Richardson who pounds out a 15 yard gain on his first carry.

Who did that help? Ingram.

It's a team sport. The more good players that we involve the better off we are.

Spread it around. We'll be o.k.

sip

CNS said in his post-game presser that we were determined to pass the first half, whether it worked or not, in order to loosen them up. I think we'll have to do the same with MSU and UF, both. UTC, I guess, is up in the air. There are just too many in the box to block, when they bring up nine. It's just impossible to run consistently against that many people. We're forcing rivals to choose their poison, and they'd rather risk dying by GMac than by Ingram...
