Urban Meyer Stepping Down (MERGED THREADS)

How many starting seniors is FL losing?

The reason I ask is that there will be tough shoes to fill.

I pity the poor soul who takes over that program.

I think the more important question is how many juniors will be jumping; they have a lot of juniors, I believe...

I hear Phat Phil is available. ;) Now that would make for a good rivalry ut/uf.
Seriously tho... I think they go after Whittingham from Utah.

WOW! I haven't been this shocked since Terry Bowden quit.

Might be good for us, but I wish him well. I've had my share of serious health problems, and I hope things work out for him. Health problems aren't anything I would wish on anyone. I just hope all is well, but for him to step down, it has to be cause for concern.

This is so sad. He had a long, great career ahead of him. Keep in mind, he is only 45. Saban is 58 and I think if he stayed at Alabama for another 8-10 years, he'd be near the end of his career. Urban had 20+ years of college football ahead of him. Really unfortunate. I hope his health concerns will improve and he'll get back into the game.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Gary Patterson from TCU. The Mountain West is a legit conference and he's been able to fight off Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech pretty well for recruits.

I would hope not. We are talking about Kiffin here but surely he has more class than that. I hope for his family he will be fine.

I should clarify, I didn't mean it in that way or to insinuate Kiffin would be dancing over Meyer being sick; ESPiN reported that it was not an immediate health concern, so it leaves it open to speculation on the seriousness of it...I was pointing to the obvious of how this clears the way for UT or UGA to become the dominant program in the east. This will hurt UF for awhile depending on who they hire, how many players leave early, recruiting, etc.

My jaw is STILL on the floor. I'm having a hard time believing this. WOW!!!:eek2::eek2::eek2:

It sounds as if the health thing is a lot more serious than was let on before. This changes the ENTIRE landscape of the SEC right now. WOW...just...WOW!!

Update: This link says that he told his players that it's a heart related condition.

With him not taking the ND job, you wonder whats going on there. I think back to him spending the night in the hospital after the SEC championship. Lets hope its not health related.

I hope UF message boards have plenty of bandwidth. They are going to need it.

According to what they are saying on ESPN, CUM says he has devoted 24 years to coaching college football, and has devoted most of his waking moments to Gator football the last five years, but at the same time neglected issues with his health. He said after talking to the Florida administration, and his doctors, he decided the best decision for him and his family is to step down. Says he plans to remain in Gainesville and be part of the Gator family.

Wow! Just heard this on ESPN. I hope he has a healthy life, good luck to him, and hope he can spend some time with his family. Hate to see him go, he has really brought the level of competitiveness in the SEC up since he has been here. Guess that night in the hospital made him re-evaluate his life and made him decide his family was more important than football.
