I can't help but think this is a very serious health problem...

Wonder who they'll be after? Stoops is someone that comes to my mind.

Re: Urban Meyer Stepping Down? (MERGED THREADS)

Wow, indeed. Why announce now and create a huge distraction for the team less than a week before the Sugar? Fear of leaks perhaps. Its going to be an interesting week(s) for the gator nation.

Re: Urban Meyer Stepping Down? (MERGED THREADS)

3. Who is next at Florida? Charlie Strong would have been the likely choice, but this came a month too late. The only "name" coach that comes to mind with head coaching experience is Franchione. Surely, not...

That's what I was thinking. Wonder if Strong regrets leaving.

Coach Joe Kines is available. Hope he gets more consideration than Fraud ;)

Stoops should be expecting a call. UF is a premiere job and hiring someone like Strong or Mullen would be a mistake. I think Florida would be wise to go to a proven head coach at a small school. Chris Peterson, Bronco Mendenhall, or Kyle Wittingham would be great candidate IMO.

If Charlie had just waited. Coach Strong would have done a fine job.

THAT may turn out to be the bigger story. Not to be a conspiracist, but Charlie surely talked to UM before accepting the Louisville job (e.g. "Are you going to ND? Are you going pro anytime soon?"). Now, maybe UM hadn't made up his mind (likely) or even thought about quitting (much less likely), but if he had even ONE conversation with the Florida President or A.D. about the possibility of such, AND no one mentioned this to Strong after he interviewed for the Louisville job, then you have a potential problem that gets into the dangerous race issue. Bunch of "if's" right now, but just keep them in mind for the next 48 hours.

WOW!!! UF losing Urban Meyer, Charlie Strong and Tim Tebow. We have been through enough coaching searches to know how difficult it is to find a good quality coach. Where do they turn, Mullen, Stoops?

Stoops & Mullen both have UF ties. Just sayin'...

I suspect Mullen might get a look-see but I'm thinking they go the more well established HC route...not a knock on Mullen, but just someone who has a winning record as a HC.
Too late for Strong.
If Stoops wanted out of Oklahoma, however...I know I'd call him.

Meyer reportedly has long-suffered from an arachnoid cyst (look it up). Now how in the world he translates what is usually a benign, incidental finding on a brain MRI into a reason to give up his head coaching position is beyond me.

If he's really doing this for health reasons, I wonder if there's something more serious going on that he's simply not releasing at this time.

In any case, I hope he gets better and I wish nothing but the best for him and his family.

Re: ESPN reporting Coach Urban Meyers Stepping Down

That's really too bad. Meyer is a fine coach. He is in my top three along with Pete Carroll and, of course, Nick Saban. I wish him and his family the very best. This a dark day not only for Florida, but also the SEC and CFB in general.

Agree 100%

Hahahahaha, nice.

Yah, I'm in shock here. I really hope his health problems aren't worse than they initially appeared...
