Bob Davie: Texas will win

My total hatred of the Texas Longhorns is well documented. Colt McCoy however is one tough kid. Considering where he plays, the class he shows is remarkable. He'll play his guts out, of that I have no doubt. I don't think he'll be able to pull it off however.

I stand corrected:

That stinks in my eyes. :biggrin2:

Anytime you play your "men-tar" your motivated...
Bob Davie, Alamo Bowl'10

This is the exact quote yesterday, referring to Will Muschamp coaching againist Saban. I thought it really summed it up. I never knew that, that motivation was the key to victory. Interesting....

It is obvious that most of the people who have posted on this thread are too young to have been around during the sixties, when Bear Bryant based his game-psychology upon poor-mouthing about how great those "big fine boys" on the other team were such great football players that there was no use for his own "skinny-legged" players to even get on the field with them.

Bear Bryant loved bulletin board material like this fromm Bob Davie. I doubt if I can find it in BEAR, but there is a "passage" in there describing how someone had written that that the mamas and papas of the Florida players were better people, or some such thing, and how Bear used this as bulletin board material.

Bear's phrase was "fat-headed." He didn't want his players to get "fat-headed" about playing any opponent, and the best way to keep his players ready to play was to play up just this very sort of thing, how people didn't expect his Alabama team to be able to stand up to the upcoming opponent.

I have to believe that there is SOMEBODY on the Alabama roster who reads this very Tidefans site, including this very thread under its tantalizing title, "Bob Davie: Texas will win." And this same guy surely spreads it to someone else on the roster, and soon it's all over the team that Bob Davie thinks Texas will beat Alabama. You can't buy better motivation. Thank you, Bob Davie.

Coach Bryant had more ex players and assistants as head coaches than any other coach of his time. I think Gene Stallings was the first to beat him on the field.

You teach your students well but don't teach them enough to beat you. ;)

what does Coach Bryant and poor-mouthing have to do with Bob Davie picking texass? And why is Bob Davie picking texass motivation, or bulletin board material, for BAMA? Because there's just nothing like sticking it to ol' Bob? Who the hell even cares who Bob Davie is?

Texas really only needs to do two things to beat Alabama. 1) They've got to shut down Bama's offense. 2) They've got to score more points than the Tide when on offense.

Do that and they win.

There ya go. Oh yeah, and one other thing. Make sure Colt McCoy gets his uniform on. That's all they really need to do.
