A couple of thoughts...

Allen is a bona fide stud, no doubt about it, and he is the kind of player that we need moving forward. Every elite team has to have its fair share of superstars, and Allen could easily fit that role.

On the other hand, there are limits as to what you can do to get recruits, and at some point the return becomes negative. Simply put, if your hand is pushed, there comes a point where you as a coaching staff must simply abstain.

Putting it all together, we clearly want and could use Allen. I, and I think everyone else, hopes that he signs with UA. Nevertheless, we should all keep in mind the old Switzer quote... we'll win with him, and we'll win without him. Getting him would be gravy, but even if we don't we're still loaded, and frankly Saban will just replace him with another super-recruit next year. With all due respect to Allen, we should all be well aware that he has a hell of a lot more to lose here than we do.

Bingo. We can't be so haughty as to pretend like losing Allen wouldn't diminish, even if only slightly, our chances of success in the future. As competitive as college football is today, we need to win every battle we can. This battle (for Keenan) is pretty big, and will have long-term implications.
I think the implications are much bigger for KA than they are Alabama. :) If we wants to play for a mediocre ACC team with a below mediocre coach and coaching staff, that's his choice. I don't think Clemson with develop him as a player like Alabama will.

I would love to see KA at Alabama, but we will be fine with or without him.

Somthing else came to mind which I don't think is over looked by these young players...

Living here in Maryland, heart of ACC country, I saw Bama play on TV far more than Clemson. Now part of that is I purposely build my Saturdays around Bama's schedule but still... Bama games were televised NATIONALLY whereas Clemson could not get the national coverage or for that matter JP Sports coverage outside of the state of South Carolina. Not that they are not deserving, it just didn't happen.

Hope to see KA in Crimson next week!

Clemson QB Depth Chart (from rivals.com)

Depth Chart details | roster
1. Quarterback - K. Parker | 6-0, 210, Fr.
2. Quarterback - W. Korn | 6-2, 220, So.
3. Quarterback - M. Wade | 6-1, 205, Jr.

Parker was on the All ACC Freshman team, and led the team to the ACC Atlantic Division Title.

I don't believe Maynard beats out Parker for the QB job. He'll be lucky to see any playing time.

Obviously, no recruiting guru, especially far away in Virginia, but feeling is he's in Crimson this fall.

Frequent reader of posts, not a frequent poster. Discussion like this is one of the things that makes this site great. Most of the people here do a great job of "keeping it in the road" when it comes to most of the topics presented here, and the information passed here is pretty impressive.

I do want to somewhat echo a point made by BET. We are currently celebrating a National Championship that was built with a team of athletes this staff has assembled, and sure, it's loaded with a lot of talented players. Talent is definitely one of the ingredients to winning a championship in anything.

As talented as this kid is, and I don't doubt for a minute that his talent is immense, we are on page 17 of this thread. I hope we land this kid, but if we don't, our staff is still doing what they've done since they've been here -- building a championship team.

My cousin in Charleston (Clemson grad, yuck) just emailed me saying that Keenan is theirs and it is over. I shot him my retort of "we don't take package deals."
I have seen reports that CNS has offered Maynard, anybody confirm that?

Some Clemson folks worried that Parker about to take the MLB express. Korn: Perhaps Clemson's top-ever recruit, and so far can't play dead.

No, there is no confirmation on that yet. All rumors for now.

And as I mentioned earlier, I'm not sure that would change the situation any.

Korn transferred, likely going to Marshall.

Clemson signed a five-star QB last year, mind you, but even so the chances of Maynard seeing some meaningful playing time there are significantly higher than at 'Bama.

One thing to remember about Kyle Parker is that he is available for the 2010 MLB Draft, which means there is no guarantee Parker will be back next year.

This, plus the fact that he probably won't beat out anybody at Bama, so basically, wherever they go, the only scenario I see is they're just gonna be on the same campus and on the same team, albeit very little PT for Maynard. Looks like ZM would rather go somewhere to possibly land a starting job. And that don't look likely at Bama or Clemson.

Re: Is Keenan Allen a soft verbal? (Put all discussion of Allen's visits in this thre

As a team on probation I would be alarmed if this is the only way a recruit would come to Bama. Like I said earlier we don't know the whole situation and discussions so I'll just hope for the best. That said, I certainly won't be looking for any bridges if KA chooses to go play in a non-exposure, football 2nd, mediocre league that deserves to have its BCS rights revoked.

I researched the brother and would pose this - would you offer Jimmy Barnes a scholly in order to get Allen?

Easy, Korn's tranfer ran into some problems and I'm told he plans to re-enroll in Clemson to graduate. Whether he plays another down is another matter.

Your point, though, is a good one. A QB's route to playing time there is infinitesimal compared to Alabama.

Let's all look at it this way: We have 25 commitments with room for three more. We have

Shon Coleman
Arie Koundjiao
James Stone
Calvin Smith
Dequan Menzie
Christian Jones

still on the board. Stone is likely going to Tennessee and Christian Jones will be a nole. I am not sure on the status of Calvin Smith, but the other three are Bama's to lose from everything I've heard. Let's say Smith commits to us on NSD as well. That leaves us with 29 commitments and 28 spots. If Allen does indeed go to Clemson, that'll give us our 28 guys. Now I'm not saying I want Allen to leave (he's our best commitment IMO), but these things obviously have a way of working themselves out.

This battle (for Keenan) is pretty big, and will have long-term implications.
I think that is overstating things quite a bit. There are very, very few recruits that have significant long term implications on a top tier program. We missed out on Tebow, yet we still won the national title without him.

Some very special recruits like Bo Jackson, Hershel Walker and Peyton Manning helped change the landscape of several programs, but still they only have 1 national championship between them.

Is Allen thought to be the next Bo Jackson, Hershel Walker, Tim Tebow or Peyton Manning?

This is certainly no disrespect to Allen - it would be great to have him and I think he would thrive here. I'm just saying that when a top tier team is recruiting well, no one recruiting loss will have a significant impact.

I log on every day to follow all of this. Every day I see 6 new pages of info so I figure there surely must be some kind of new information... but alas, there is not. Ya know, my friends uncle's father's sister who lives in a town 10 miles from KA's home and a killer pair of binoculars told me that Davis' meeting went really well last night.

I'm going to take a nap now... please wake me when there is something credible to consider... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... Oh, before I sign off... if I have a dream about where KA is going, should I post it here in hopes that someone can verify??
