A couple of thoughts...
Allen is a bona fide stud, no doubt about it, and he is the kind of player that we need moving forward. Every elite team has to have its fair share of superstars, and Allen could easily fit that role.
On the other hand, there are limits as to what you can do to get recruits, and at some point the return becomes negative. Simply put, if your hand is pushed, there comes a point where you as a coaching staff must simply abstain.
Putting it all together, we clearly want and could use Allen. I, and I think everyone else, hopes that he signs with UA. Nevertheless, we should all keep in mind the old Switzer quote... we'll win with him, and we'll win without him. Getting him would be gravy, but even if we don't we're still loaded, and frankly Saban will just replace him with another super-recruit next year. With all due respect to Allen, we should all be well aware that he has a hell of a lot more to lose here than we do.
