Earle, it seems like a whole lot of dreams are being hung on the shoulders of an 18 year old kid. I really hope he gets what he wants in the end.
Sadly, that's going to be the ultimate tragedy---KA and his brother are hostages to their OWN FAMILY and will have to do what they tell them to do, without realizing the long-term ramifications of receiving a "bird in the hand" now that may result in "holes in the hand" (or "head") in the future for their kids...

Yep, Penn St. is being mentioned. I'm not even sure he's even visited there. The situation begins to smell to high heaven...
Agreed. If even half the stuff that's floating around about this situation is true, the further we can distance ourselves from him and his family the better. It's a shame for his sake, he'll likely regret it when it's all said and done.

We're not going to link it here, but, if anyone wants to wander over to the Clemson boards, there's a world of info on Yelverton, his past, and his role in this situation...

This summer when he took all these recruits out west.

Tomorrow, Oregon will host four talented players from Northern Guilford HS in Greensboro, NC. The four players will travel with their high school coach Otis "Coach O" Yelverton. "Yeah we are all taking off tomorrow around 7:30 am and will be landing in Eugene around 1:30 pm," said Coach O. "James Scales, Keenan Allen, Gabe King, and Chris McCain will all be traveling with me to visit Oregon. James is also bringing some of his family on the trip.""We plan on visiting Oregon, Oregon State, and Cal on the six day trip," said Coach O.

I was upset about this earlier, now I'm happy we lost out on him. If he has some kind of handler, then my GOD, please avoid this kid at all costs. He'll be an excellent player, but guys....WE JUST WON THE NATIONAL TITLE. It is an honor and privilege to play at UA, not the other way around. Menzie will probably start this year, and will probably make a bigger immediate impact than KA would have anyway (our offense is loaded...DB's are young). Next year I bet we have an unreal class, and will hit on some unreal talent who are men of their word (not bashing a recruit).

I just read from a Clemson mod at Rivals that a HS coach names "Otis" was his pimp/handler...at least, that is sort of what I made it out to be in between the grammar errors.

Keenan Allen, Scout.com five-star and soft verbal to Alabama, has been shopping for a school for he and his brother quarterback transfer from Buffalo, Zach Maynard. The brothers were not taking any calls from Alabama or Clemson going into the weekend. Sunday night at midnight ended the coaches making the contact. Cal is where we have heard this afternoon as the place of destination. More later on the breaking news if indeed this turns out as true as one of the hottest topics leading into Wednesday.

This might not have anything to do with the family but Otis the handler here. This guy looks to be dirtier then J Calipari.

A little background on Otis. He was fired while an assitant coach at Greensboro Grimsley where at the time he was coaching K Allen and Zach Maynard admist a illegal recruiting scandel of players out of district. Shortly after he was coaching at NW Guilford where he was coaching K Allen, C McCain, and Gabe King. After another investigation in improper recruiting he was fired from there and not allowed to coach at public HS in NC. This also resulted in G King no longer being allowed to play HS FB in NC and hence why he moved. Also C McCain ended up at a private school.

i am sure glad we are no longer in this picture.

Common sense should tell us that we probably dodged a bullet with the Allen family... (We don't need the drama)

QUESTIONS:
I wonder what line of reasoning, other than family loyalty, (?$$$?)
would cause a kid to throw away an opportunity to play for the
National Champions???
I wonder what kind of kid would pass up a chance to play before more than 100,000 every home game???

I wonder about a school that's desperate enough to save 2-3 slots for this kid and his chums??? (Sounds like the plot of a Animal House type movie)
I wonder what kind of message this sends to their other recruits?
I wonder, is this what their recruiting is becoming?
Makes the SEC look better and better...

In this case it's real easy for us to move on and offer that scholarship to another player. RTR.

Dan , trust me , there's nothing happening today that wasn't common 20 years ago . The only difference is via the net .

I will see if I can find some old articles on it if not you can google most of it. Otis was an assistant coach at Grimsley when both Maynard and KA played and then the head caoch got fired and Otis also was out the door. He next showed up at N Guilford HS as stated before and was involved in all the players before mentioned. While at N Guilford issues again arose about players illegally being recruited and given places to live so they could play at NG. This time the only coach they was asked to leave was Otis and G King moved to Oregon. He was the one that took KA, GK, CM, and James Sacles out west this past summer on their recruiting visits. Also to be fair he brought them all to UA this past summer to.

He has helped place over 128 players into college according to him and some people respect him and think highly of him. He was also an assistant coach for the East in the Army AA Game.

I think it's pretty safe to say that we're all glad that the proverbial bullet may have just been dodged...so in moving on from that, with Menzie basically taking KA's scholarship that still leaves 3 spots...right?

Who fills those?

Coleman
Arie
and.....

Any surprises?

p.s. - This KA situation is worse then Bryce Brown's nonsensical waiting 'til WAY after signing day to commit...I hope, for his sake, that things are on the level...or he may not see four years of school.
