Honestly everyone. I look at it as an 18 year old superstar recruit trying to figure out where he wants to go. Whether his parents, coach (which is really nothing new), or brother are highly involved is kinda besides the point. When I was looking at schools (albeit swimming which nobody cares about :)), my coach and family were extremely involved. I loved my trip to Bama, offered a scholly, and went there... Its a tough decision and Cal is a good school (obviously not NC material, but up there). Best of luck to KA in my opinion. We're still going to win another NC over the new 2-4 years if not next year.

"Alls well that ends well"

As far as I'm concerned, that old saying is applicable in this case. If KA is so easily influenced by others, he probably doesn't belong on a Nick Saban coached team where he'll be required to be more decisive.

Something definitely doesn't smell right with this situation with the ex-coach and family involvement, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he's doing this in order to play with his brother or at the very least, to help his brother. However, he needs to realize that there's a damn good reason why his brother was at Buffalo and he, himself was being recruited by the elite of CFB.

He'll probably regret his decision one day as he sees Bama playing in the BCSCG or at least BCS games and he has to weigh that against his Holiday Bowl experience.

I kind of feel sorry for KA. He has wanted to attend BAMA since his SOPH year......wanted to commit earlier than he did (Handler probably had something to do with that as well)....Always wanted to play for Coach Saban and all of the sudden his dream gets derailed by family and a handler. I am sure KA did not call Coach Saban because he did not have it in his heart to tell Coach "no' as this is not what he wanted but what he has been forced to do. I am pretty sure that is why the father called as well, because "dad" knew what was in KA's heart and he made the call for the "family" and not Keenan. Good luck to Keenan and I hope his family did not screw him over! Doubtful he will be playing for any championship in his college career if he goes elsewhere---but hopefully he can have a good career and make it to the NFL, so he can continue to support his family.

Wow! The more I read, the more I know we don't need that kind of trouble.

This situation gives all the indications of not ending well for anybody.

We'll be fine. Good luck to the kid. He's going to need it.

Having read most of this story I can only say: Good Luck to KA; because quite frankly BAMA does not this kind of drama. We will be fine and wherever this young man and his "entourage" end up: Enjoy the drama!

Tell me - how does obtaining a scholarship for a relative not qualify as receiving extra benefits? :conf3:
Proof would be one issue. It's common though, just as getting parents a job in town is. I know of no NCAA investigation, much less sanctions for it...

I will see if I can find some old articles on it if not you can google most of it. Otis was an assistant coach at Grimsley when both Maynard and KA played and then the head caoch got fired and Otis also was out the door. He next showed up at N Guilford HS as stated before and was involved in all the players before mentioned. While at N Guilford issues again arose about players illegally being recruited and given places to live so they could play at NG. This time the only coach they was asked to leave was Otis and G King moved to Oregon. He was the one that took KA, GK, CM, and James Sacles out west this past summer on their recruiting visits. Also to be fair he brought them all to UA this past summer to.

He has helped place over 128 players into college according to him and some people respect him and think highly of him. He was also an assistant coach for the East in the Army AA Game.
You know, this whole mess started getting hot right after the AAG... given the time frame of everything, you wonder if San Antonio might have served to get a few extra contacts. Like most who have commented, I want us to distance ourselves from this situation ASAP.

His potential is great but like Bobbie Massie and Lance Thompson, we moved on without them to have a lot of success.
This is a good point. I remember feeling so let down when we didn't sign Bobbie Massie last year and now I don't even care. If KA wants to go elsewhere and reach less than his potential, I'm going to be sad for him, not Alabama.

Sounds like maybe Allen, his family, his entourage, and his handler should sign with "The Young and the Restless."

Then my wife could tell me how he's doing, since I won't get to see him.

Rich's point is a good one. Here was a kid whose recruitment was textbook good. There were no red flag warnings, character issues, or indications that we were dealing with overstepping "gridiron" parents. Then, boom, boom, boom, out go the lights. What's the one new variable? - a former coach, now handler, spokesperson who speaks in the royal "we" in referring to the kids.

Like everyone else, I truly hope it works out for the young men.

oh well...i think we will survive. I do kinda feel sorry for him if he really did want to go to Bama.

Like when Greg Reid's mama got involved last year - he REALLY wanted to come to Bama - she cost him a National Championship.

There seems to be a good chance this deal may have been done for a while. And the dad waits until dead period to call and say his son's not coming. And then the Yelverton angle comes up. I'm beginning to believe that this is one we dodged a bullet on. I still remember what a PITA Juicy Locke was. The whole time he hung around T-Town, I held my breath. In fact, I held my breath about the whole time the Dubose gang was running the show. Didn't do any good...
Earle I was on campus when Juicy Locke was hanging around T-Town. The sad thing about it is that Eric really liked Alabama and Juicy made him leave.

I don't really see how since the other person is receiving an athletic scholarship as well.

I would think obtaining some other type of scholarship for someone who would ordinarily not qualify would certainly count as an extra benefit.
