HAHA..Look above your post..We posted at the same time..Did anyone mention he will enroll early? I forgot if I seen it or not but he is.:biga2:
Here an old article about DePriest linked in the article above. Just in case anyone missed it.Alabama picked up commitment No. 16 today in the form of highly coveted linebacker Trey DePriest of Springfield, Ohio.
The 6-foot-2, 230 pound DePriest committed to Alabama over local favorite Ohio State moments ago at a restaurant near his home. Rivals has DePriest as a four-star prospect on its five-star scale and the nation's sixth-best linebacker. Scout has him as a five-star and the nation's third-best linebacker.
He [DePriest] also rushed for 812 yards, caught 13 passes for 202 yards, scored 13 touchdowns and 93 total points, had a 37.7 punting average, and was named one of four Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division Athletes of the Year.
“He’s very football smart,” Springfield head coach Rick Robertson said. “He understands the game and what’s going on. When you give some kids a scouting report, I think they understand parts of it. Trey can take it to heart.”
It's a great grab for Nick Saban and Alabama, but not a backbreaking loss for Ohio State. Great players can change programs, but seldom does missing on one player crush an established program, whether it's Ohio State, Florida, Texas, Alabama, USC or anywhere else.
What matters in recruiting is patterns.
Is your school missing out on a type of player - like top-end wide receivers or big, powerful running backs or space-eating defensive tackles - because of a style of play or an inability to put out a product attractive to those kind of players?
The crowd was very supportive, it was family and friends and they seemed extremely happy with his decision. That in my opinion is what a commitment announcement should look like. No hats, no shirts, just a good time.Video of commitment here: DePriest makes his pick - Rivals.com Video
According to CBS and MaxPreps recruiting analyst Tom Lemming, DePriest exhibits great range at the linebacker position. On film, he displays tremendous lateral movement coupled with the ability to shed blockers.
DePriest is the seventh-best linebacker in the nation and the third-best recruit from the Buckeye State.
You and I must have posted at the same time and same idea! Yes, that is how it is supposed to be done!!The crowd was very supportive, it was family and friends and they seemed extremely happy with his decision. That in my opinion is what a commitment announcement should look like. No hats, no shirts, just a good time.
He even took questions from the press in attendence. DePriest told them the bottom line was he felt more comfortable at Alabama.
I posted in the Wilder topic something about that. Could having 4 solid LB commits in this class already, it would only make sense to go to Wilder and tell him we see him only as a tailback. That has certainly been something that has held Bama back from the rest of his top teams. We've seen him as a linebacker starting out and now it really just doesn't make sense.
The fact that he's postponed his decision definitely gives Saban and the staff an in for making another run at him.
