Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

This is a very good summary of what is going on at Auburn in recruiting. Thank you.

To our new Auburn friend. I do not care what happened in the past, but as others have pointed out I concern myself with the present. I understand pushing the envelope but the the shady dealings of the Auburn staff in recruiting is a concern for any parent who has a child and for the protection of the players involved. Auburn sales family but yet does not include the family when Trooper talks with the recruit. Last year S Region told the staff he was going to commit to UA. They had UA banners in the place and the whole family wearing UA gear was shocked when he announced for Auburn and was upset how the Auburn staff misled their son. They were already planning to run an article he interveiwed for once he announced.

"I am going to Alabama," Region told Scout.com before the announcement. "My family knew that's where I wanted to go. They thought it was a good idea. Coach (Nick) Saban said to commit if I wanted to. Coach Saban was really excited. He said he has big plans for me."

Spencer Regions switches commit to Auburn | TuscaloosaNews.com

Next G robinson from LA announces for Auburn. Shocked the family and everyone close to him. Even the grandmother comes out and questions the method by Trooper and Auburn. She even said they took him to Auburn without telling anyone in his family.

She doesn’t think highly of Auburn’s coaches, who she says “weren’t very intelligent.” She is especially not fond of Taylor, who she says “got a lot of lies in there when he was talking.”

Robinson, who won’t say where she wants her grandson to attend college, says she is also upset that Nelson and Taylor had her grandson take several visits to Auburn without her or his mother’s permission. At times, she says, she didn’t know his whereabouts.

“They were wrong for doing that,” she says.

Next B Calloway a long time Bama fan and verbal commit changes his mind in the last month. Without his parents knowledge switches to Auburn. His father questions his actions and goes on record that he is not a Bama fan but does not like the staff at Auburn.

"It blows my mind that all of a sudden it was Auburn or nothing," Winston said.

Winston says he's not an Alabama fan, but he likes the way the Crimson Tide staff approaches the game.

"They stick to business. You don't see their coaches high-fiving," Winston said.

Flipping over for Calloway? As of Friday night, maybe not | al.com

Now Cyrus who even his father has said along with family believed it was UA until CGC shows up last week and Cyrus then goes to Auburn this past weekend after dealing with Trooper and next he decides for the Barn. Even his father is concerned because he knows nothing about the Barn.

The player's father said he was unfamiliar with Auburn until AU head coach Gene Chizik made a recruiting visit and the announcement caught him off guard.

“I knew about them only last week," Jean Claude Kouandjio. "They had a visit in my house last week. I don't know a lot about them.”

Prior to that visit, he thought his son would join Arie at Alabama

Kouandjio creates high drama in Hyattsville | TideSports.com

Sorry but atleast when CNS recruits he deals with the family not this back alley dealings that Trooper and the Barn are doing. You would think they would atleast try and inform these kids families their intentions. My take they are feeding these kids a load of crap and why they do not want their parents involved. Again my opinion but the evidence is pointing that way. Especially now when someone that claims they are a professional and when questioned last year about their involvement with Dyer and Mosley, remember Mosley the famous recruit with 10K in his hand photo, Walt Williams who pushed those 2 to Auburn. Everyone knows about his relationship with CGC and yet this so called professional is now posting on Calloway and Cyrus facebook and pumping Auburn propaganda. Sorry that is not professional and just shows you how low your staff has gotten. Again as a parent if the scum like Trooper or Luper pulled this crap with my children they would not like the outcome. But the picture is becoming clear why Auburn is now becoming succesful in recruiting and I haven't even mentioned Cecil or Cam. They should change their little saying we are Family to please no families allowed.

Kimipela, I actually enjoyed reading your responses. I always enjoy reading others' point of view. I would like to add to this conversation that Trooper Taylor had a bad reputation for shall we say questionable recruiting practices and tactics while he was at Tennessee and he certainly seems to be doing the same at the Barn. I believe the Barn will be in serious trouble with Camgate which will eventually void your NC. It will be gutwrenching for all Barn fans that your one NC every 50+ years will eventually go away, but that's what happens with Pay For Play -- ask Reggie Bush.

This whole process has gotten out of hand and it looks like he was not ready to commit yesterday and hopes he takes his time. I know our new Auburn poster and many other Auburn fans feel it was wrong the way it went down, but you can thank ESPN for adding even more pressure on these recruits. He was not sure yesterday but the show must go on. Just like with Clowney. I just read that it looks like the reason for the delayed announcement is all staged by ESPN now. He just did a huge photo shoot for them in NYC and we be on the cover on the next magizine being released on 2/7. A week before his announcement. So I can not wait to see all the build up for that on the 14th. I guess they need something major to follow the superbowl and this helps their recruiting market.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

I actually do not like Walt Williams so you are preaching to the choir there. I also absolutely LOATHED Bobby Lowder and was sure he would be the ruination of Auburn University. Like I said, I am not stupid, nor gullible. When Colonial went down, I actually laughed. Believe it or not, there are many "good" Auburn folks who always hated him.

However, the recruiting situation I have a different opinion. I think Auburn had always been a little "lax" in their recruiting passion. I think Trooper and Luper bring an energy to the team that we had not had in a LONG time. I also think a kid's decision on where he wants to attend school should be his own, not his parents or guardians. I know many of you do not feel that way, it is just my opinion for what it is worth. I honestly do BELIEVE that Brent wanted to come to Auburn and was forced back to Bama. I may be wrong, like I said it is JMO.
It should be the kids decision huh? Maybe his father was just stepping in to send him to a place that was a better fit for him, where he would not be a "rented mule", where God himself would be a better influence. Sound familiar? I do not believe that Brent's family was the sole decision maker in his recommittment to UA. I saw the picture of him signing his LOI with his Bama gloves on and the young man was smiling from ear to ear. He did not seem that way during his announcement on the Army AA game in December. Just as the case with CK, he looked very uncomfortable yesterday during his announcement. Not from the cameras and microphones but from what was on his mind. The young man seemed really torn. Was he torn because of what was put into his head, was there something about AU that he liked, or did he feel in his heart that he wants to be at Bama. I have a feeling whatever was said by the AU coaching staff to CK was told to CNS yesterday during a phone conversation thus the reason for some of his comments yesterday during the press conference.
Btw, did I pull for AU last month, NO. Did I pull for Oregon, NO. I did feel good for some lifelong family friends who were AU fans. They are good and decent people (even though one is kinned to a certain former PR guy and AD at AU) and do not have a "hatred" for Bama football. I was glad they got to experience that in their lifetime because they are really good people. My father once told one friend that AU would never win a NC again in his lifetime. He died in 2009 and that friend called me up after AU won and the only thing she said was, "darn it, your Dad was right again!"

After reading this last story, the quotes from the father lead me to believe that CK is leaning to Auburn, but he appreciates how much easier it would be on his family if he goes to Alabama. I think he is really on the fence and this can go either way. I can't see that Iowa is a real candidate.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

I live over here amonst "your kind" and you're delusional if you think Bama fans have the market cornered on arrogance. In fact, lots of Auburn are programmed from an early age to think they are better than the "redneck" Alabama fans. There is "propaganda machine", if you will, and the goal is to have a retort for and to deminish anything Alabama has accomplished, and to convince people that Auburn is superior. Our arrogance is based on our accomplishments, while AU's, for the most part, is manufactured. Your team just won the NC, and had arguably the best recruiting class in school history, and you're here on Bama board, worrying about WE are saying about our hated rival on OUR board. THAT'S what drive me nuts about Auburn fans. I don't hate you, and I hope you stick around. Maybe we can show your error of your ways. I mean, even you admitted - you were raised better than that!;)
LOL :) It must be awful for you living in Auburn! I live in Florida and have had to live with the arrogance of the "Gator Nation" for years. Down here you get no news of other SEC programs, or coverage of the games, just the Gators.

Look, I know both sides seem to take "arrogance" to another level from time to time. My mother likens it to little kids on a playground. We suck for a while, you "na-na-na" us, then we win and we "na-na-na" you back. It is a never ending cycle among the fanbases.

I just think that NCAA Football as a WHOLE has unfortunately turned into a shady business and it is not "just Auburn". I think it is widespread across the board. I also think it only comes out if you are "on top" or heading that way. I still think the whole "Cam-gate" would have never been an issue if we would have been 3-4 to start the season. I think PFP goes on FAR more than any of us even know at all schools.

When Cam-Gate broke, a friend of mine who went to Notre Dame told me about a friend of his who played for them. This was back in the late 80's mind you. The kid told him when he committed, they handed him an envelope with $20 grand in it and told him if he spent one penny of it before graduation someone would be lookind for him. I think it is long standing and every team has been involved at some point or another...

I must've missed those posts if they are here.

But yah, ignorance is everywhere. I guess a lot of folks have forgotten what it was like to be seventeen and, of course, most never had a decision of this magnitude in front of them...

I'm sure there are. There are plenty of fans, AU, UA, take your pick from around the country, who are idiots. I hate what's happened. Not strictly from the standpoint of an Alabama fan, but for everyone involved. It's my hope that ESPNU stops their coverage (although I doubt that will ever happen) and an early signing period was put in place. I'm sure that would ease a lot of the pressure some of these top recruits face.

In the end, it doesn't matter where Cyrus goes. He's an immensely talented kid with a bright future and as long as he works hard, I'm sure he'd succeed. Good luck on the decision.

My niece talked to Brent's Mom yesterday morning and as of then he was undecided still. She said that he was going to go with the school that offered the best scholarship.

I always saw him in Bama gear running around the neighborhood fwiw.

Really because if that was the case why announce and just hold out like Clowney. By all accounts that I have seen he wants this process over and behind him but yet seems to be undecided. I think if he had to do it all over again he would have postponed his announcement yesterday. Again my opinion.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio commits to the barn but he has not faxed his LOI in

TideWarrior: I am going to be HONEST (see I can do it) and admit that I do not know much about Brent or Cyrus's recruitment process. I knew about Cyrus from way back and actually wished we had pushed harder in the beginning, but it seems that we got added to the list VERY late. Perhaps it was a last minute visit, then he was super impressed. What I do know is that there are several of the other recruits parents who are very happy and already involved - one being Kiehl's dad. So I think the assumption that we "never involve" the parents is a little off base.
It is entirely possible that everything is legitimate here. AU just won the NC (this one seems to be much less mythical than some of Alabama's), and they are graduating/losing a lot of players, so there is immediate playing time to sell. As much as I don't understand it, I'm sure there are also kids that grow up wanting to play for AU, even though most of their parents weren't graduates and as such would have to become the dreaded "sidewalk alumni" that we hear so much about.

It's also entirely possible that when confronted with a set of skeptical parents, the AU staff sees no problem with bypassing them and going directly to the kid. I seem to recall Spencer Region's comments that Luper and Taylor pretty much said he wasn't a man if he couldn't make his own decision. If that's anywhere close to what's happening in some of these cases, that to me is reprehensible. Plus, in my case when I was 17, I could have had a new favorite every few hours, and I would have needed to rely on my parents to sift through the BS and people telling me how great I was and get where I needed to be. Nobody knows you better than your parents at that stage of your life.

One thing I have always appreciated about CNS is that he has consistently said that these kids get cought up in how much they are going to play next year, when what they need to be focusing on is how much they will develop over the next three years. IMHO, that's a much better philosophy.

One last thing: any AU fan who even mentions anything about the parents being involved in anything but a positive way is being 100% hypocritical. You were all for it when it worked in your favor with Newton, so you can't say with a straight face that you thing there's something wrong with it now.

Only thing is, barners are arrogant about their rule-breaking; almost every college who has ever had a member of their coaching staff get caught cheating has run him or her off. The barn, on the other hand, names a their field after theirs?
Notice anything here? You want to pat your rule-breakers on the back, name fields after them, even reward them with life long jobs...and yet you wonder why others hate you?
That really shows the depths of the brainwashing and propaganda ("We can do nothing wrong, even if it's wrong") that permeates your program and your fanbase. I'm not saying all barn fans or alums are part and parcel to this foolishness, but your new motto is "All In", isn't it?

I did not get this feeling when I read the article. I just think that his dad is a smart man and wants his child to be happy. To get to that happiness point, he needs to weigh all the options before he makes his choice.

This is absurd! People who say things like this are heartless, spineless and stupid. I have checked out Cyrus' facebook wall and am mortified by the stuff I read there. You guys need to deactivate his account until this process is over. Good luck to him as he makes his decision.

I would agree. I hate to tell you guys what to do magnanga_boy, but this sounds like a pretty solid idea given the current situation.

I'm sure his facebook wall is full of idiot comments from rival fans, Iowa, Auburn, and Bama fans alike.
