Re: Jordan Jefferson in barfight last night

Back on topic:

I read this from the guy from Everyday Should Be Saturday and laughed so loud, they asked me to leave out of the office:

(Regarding JJ, possibly kicking someone in the head)

"...to no one's surprise Jordan Jefferson relied on his legs when things got dicey."

:D :D :D :D

Seriously, though. (SIAP, but) The interviews have been postponed until tomorrow (Tuesday) and Jefferson has lawyered up. Word is they've hired INSURANCE lawyers and not defense lawyers. I'm confused...

EDIT: I was wrong. The players have hired the attorney who exposed the NOLA police officers for excessive force immediately post-Katrina. Which means that (this is my guess, at least) neither of them will miss any game time unless Les decides to do some type of internal disciplinary action.

Re: Jordan Jefferson in barfight last night

I guess everyone was raised different. My dad taught me to do everything I could to avoid a fight. But, if that wasn't possible the first rule was there are no "rules" in fighting. The main objective is to protect yourself and end it as quickly as possible because the longer the fight continues the more likely I'd end up severely injured or dead. And if I ever got him down and on top of him don't stop punching until someone either pulled me off of him or he wasn't able to get up on his own power. So to each his own I guess when it comes to the mindset one has when defending themselves.

With this situation, I've never seen Les that upset. You could tell he was ticked off and I would be willing to bet there will be some dismissals and some suspensions. I just got that feeling. I hope none of those kids did anything to merit jail time. I hope it turns out that it was just your routine bar fight and everybody can go about their way.

Sounds like your Dad and mine went to the same school. (School of Hard Knocks -AKA- (USMC)
I received the same advice when I was about 12-13 yrs old. The only rule in a fight you didn't start was to win.
It was sound advice in Inner-city schools in the late 50s and early 60s...

(I spent years teaching LEOs that the fight's over, when the other guy quits.
That keeps you off the front page of the local 'Rag'...)

Les did seem to be beside himself. If their 'Punter' (Jefferson) stays on the team...
Ole Les may be weird, but I've always liked him, grass eating and all.
I feel for him, cause he's got to make some unpopular decisions...
Conventional wisdom sez to 'Give em the Boot' (Pun Intended)

Re: Jordan Jefferson in barfight last night

My co-worker and an avid Oklahoma State says this was Les's problem as a head coach at OSU. I do know when Gundy became he kicked several off team for issues he would not put up with. Then again maybe Les has changed. RTR

Re: Jordan Jefferson in barfight last night

You can bet hatter will suspend them....... Not for the Oregon game mind you but they will be punished and forced to miss the game against the blind school and they will sit for 2 whole quarters.... Mark it down !

Nathan Fisher is a very good local lawyer who is known to offer pro bono services to students. He is not being hired by LSU. The university lawyers have been protecting the players interests as LSU students but with talk of possible lawsuits, it is smart for these four to get independent counsel to protect their personal legal interests.

Unless this lawyer offers his services for free for ALL students, then this is a case of receiving extra benefits. It will be made much worse if the lawyer is a LSU fan.

Re: Jordan Jefferson in barfight last night

I keep thinking about the damage that could be done kicking somebody in the face. If an LSU player did this after someone was dragged from a car and beaten, he should be put in jail.

My understanding is that LSU has a curfew for the football team, while at the same time, the people running the program realize the players breaking the curfew is some kind of team tradition.

Lot's of students get through college without living under a curfew. Nobody monitored me to see if I was in bed by 10:30. If some team members are so irresponsible that a curfew is needed for everyone, then enforce the danged curfew. By giving the players the wink & nod to ignore team rules and break curfew might suggest to an immature player that he can also get away with kicking a guy in the face.

Would it be national news if you kicked someone in the face after pulling them out of a car? No. That's why teams have curfews during training camp. Alabama has one too.

Re: Jordan Jefferson in barfight last night

If I was the victim, I would sue all 4 players and the school. Jefferson was kicking the guy in the head (according to witnesses) after they pulled him from the car. What a bunch of thugs. Can't fight him man to man, they have to gang up 4 on 1. Typical.......

I'm not real sure what you are getting at. I think the purpose to a curfew is to prevent things like this from happening, not to just keep it out of the news.

The players enjoy the fan attention, if they have to behave because of the closer scrutiny, that's part of the deal.

The Ducks are foaming at the quackers at this one....... Thanks alot for another blackeye the SEC does not need...... PUN INTENDED :)

To be fair, we don't know the whole story.

I have no clue, so I'm just playing devil's advocate here, but what if the guy was a redneck white dude with an axe to grind who started yelling racial slurs, opened the door, stepped partially out of the vehicle and started threatening the players, and then brandished a knife? Would the players be justified in their actions at that point, which could easily be perceived as them "dragging the guy out of his vehicle"?

If a guy pulls a knife on me, he's not going to be walking right for a few weeks. He's probably not going to be using that hand/arm for a few weeks either.

I think that was his point. Regular college students typically don't have curfews because the spotlight isn't on them. It is, however, on the football players and so the curfew is to [hopefully] avoid this type of bad publicity.

I understand.

The point I was getting at was why have a curfew when it's a team tradition to break it?
