Find me a rule book in regards to a street fight.
guess so.
Clear difference however between a fight for pride and what your talking about. Still Unless youre fighting for your life there a some clear rules in a fight, and hitting a guy on the ground is one of them.
HA!! Man..I'm always interested in hearing about different value systems. I can appreciate the gentleman's approach to a fight. However, from my side of the tracks, the NUMBER ONE rule in a fight, was this: WHATEVER you do, DO NOT FALL...Once you fell, it was curtains. EVERYBODY standing around watching the fight would get kicks/stomps in on you. People that you may have done wrong as far back as kindergarten, yeah..that was their opportunity for comeuppance. So your best bet was to just get in the fetal position and decide quickly which organ you valued most: your brain or your lungs/kidneys/liver.
If he does find one, it'll be very, very short.Find me a rule book in regards to a street fight.
Where is that like button? Some good stuff on here.:biggrin2:
Hehe. Tell me about it. I've always wondered what makes a guy want to fight some other guy? I have always wanted to punch somebody in the face just to see what it feels like, but I don't want the same done to me.

Umm, what??? I hate to break it to you, but the only time there are rules to a fight are when it's a refereed contest. When it's not, then have to assume that the other guy is going to everything he can to injure you. And odds are that's exactly what he's going to do.
+1

thats funny i once watched a fight where a guy got stomped on by the 6 other dudes who were beating him in a bowling alley for insulting them. I didnt realize that the thugs stepping on his face were in the right, glad to know thats your kind of people. good for you!
Sorry I took the thread of topic. back to arguing about the tigers......
these days you have to assume the other guy has a knife or a few buddies that dont care about your life. as such i will try to permanently injure the person im fighting with. if he so happens to be on the ground, then i will continue to beat him until he stops quivering. it takes a lot for me to swing so i figure by that time the guy needs a lesson he will remember for many years. walking into a fight with rules is the best way to get beaten.
Agreed. You have to go into a fight with the attitude that your opponent wants to take your life, not just give you a bloody lip. It's him or you, so you have to bring so much initial pain and destruction upon him that not only will he not be able get back up, he wouldn't want to get back up even if he could.
I agree with you guys that in a fight, you have to do whatever is necessary to win. But 6 guys pulling someone out of a truck, beating him unconscious and kicking him on the ground is not a fight, it is a mob beating. I have no idea if this is true or not and i don't want anything happening to them until the facts come out, but IF and its a big IF, it turns out that that is indeed the way it played out, then they should be locked up for a very long time.

It is sometimes the most foolish things. They had finished the last day of an intense August camp and it was their last night in the dorms before leaving for their apartments and starting classes on Monday. Apparently there is a "tradition" of slipping out after curfew on this night to celebrate. Clearly it is not supposed to involve a few of them getting into a fight and everyone getting caught by the coaches. The whole idea of a curfew is to keep players out of trouble. It's hard to understand why they would risk a potential championship ring just to become members of "The Breakfast Club". On the other hand, I have been a college student and done foolish things, including being arrested for drunk and disorderly, so its hard to be too judgmental. The bad thing for LSU fans is what has been discussed. Where is their players focus? Certainly don't look like trying to be the best football players they can be.![]()
I guess everyone was raised different. My dad taught me to do everything I could to avoid a fight. But, if that wasn't possible the first rule was there are no "rules" in fighting. The main objective is to protect yourself and end it as quickly as possible because the longer the fight continues the more likely I'd end up severely injured or dead. And if I ever got him down and on top of him don't stop punching until someone either pulled me off of him or he wasn't able to get up on his own power. So to each his own I guess when it comes to the mindset one has when defending themselves.
With this situation, I've never seen Les that upset. You could tell he was ticked off and I would be willing to bet there will be some dismissals and some suspensions. I just got that feeling. I hope none of those kids did anything to merit jail time. I hope it turns out that it was just your routine bar fight and everybody can go about their way.
Yep. You quit when he's down. If he's trying to get back up, then he isn't down yet.
I always think it's funny how you can tell how someone learned to fight. You can also tell what they were taught to fight with. I've seen cops who've been trained in basic hand to hand, but were pretty much useless one-on-one without a weapon. Same thing with a few "professional" security guys I know.
I don't know if it's luck (good or bad) or what, but I've been around a lot of fights, street and otherwise. I saw a boxer and a kick-boxer get into an argument over who was the better fighter, and which was the better style. The boxer guy started it and was quite indignant. The boxer said that the smaller, lighter kick-boxer couldn't take a punch. At this point the kick-boxer said that boxers were so stupid they'd just stand there waiting on the other to try and punch him in the face, and he'd be on his back before he knew what happened. So, they decided to step outside and find out. The boxer got pasted, and he deserved it. He was, after all, the instigator.
However, back to the rules thing. I've seen a bunch of guys who should have had a distinct advantage in a fight get whipped. And the reason they got whipped is because they didn't fully understand the difference between a fight and a sparring match. I had to step in once to help stop a fight between four guys before someone got killed. These two punks were harassing a couple of girls, and these other two guys stood up for them. Very gallant.(Although, if they hadn't my buddy and I were about to. These guys were going way too far, even if they were drunk.) Anyway, the two "nice guys" got in between the punks and the girls, and told them to leave the girls alone. This, of course, led to a mouth-peeing contest. The nice guys told the punks that they were both black-belts, and had no problem with going outside and kicking their butts. I don't know if they were bluffing, just hoping to intimidate the guys, but they weren't lying about their training. They were clearly taught some form of martial arts. They, however, had no clue how to fight in an alley and it got ugly in a hurry. It's like they were expecting some sort of gentlemanly fight from a 50's movie or something. The problem was that they had no weapons, they backed themselves into a corner, they were cocky, and the punks had no rules - one had a knife and the other guy picked up a piece of a metal pole or rod or something. The "black-belts" weren't ready for that. I don't know if they were black-belts or just exaggerating, but if we hadn't followed them out there they might have gotten themselves killed.
I stopped being impressed when someone said they were a black-belt a long time ago because I've seen too many fights just like that one. Been in a couple, actually.
When it comes to fighting, buzz hit the nail on the head:
- Try to defuse the situation if at all possible
- If you can't, try to find a quick escape route
- If forced to fight, assume that you will kill him(them) or he(they) will kill you
- Assume that he is a better fighter than you are
- Assume that he will cheat
- Try to get any, and I mean any, advantage you can get
- Try to end it quickly
That's pretty much it.
