Yes, overall LSU has superior talent. No question.

But for some reason, under Miles, they've always been notoriously slow coming out of the blocks to start the season, especially on offense. Then they tend to gradually get better as the season progresses.

Oregon, on the other hand, tends to come out of the blocks like a fireworks show and lights up the scoreboard until teams finally learn how to slow them down somewhat as the season progresses.

Plus Oregon has the stinging loss to Auburn still on their minds and they're the team that has the emotional advantage because they're the team with "something to prove."

Both teams lost key starters on defense but LSU lost some truly great performers including the best corner in America in Peterson.

The big thing though is that while Oregon's players are getting all fired up to prove something on national television, LSU players are hiring attorneys and giving police interviews.

That type of nonsense, especially when your QB is involved hurts a football team from top to bottom. As Coach Saban say's it is "clutter", and I think it will be the determining factor in this game.

Look for Jefferson to turn the ball over and to get frustrated.

Yea I think if JJ is suspended they will actually improve on offense if and only if they put Mettenberger in. Gonna have to go with the Bayou Bangles 27-10

Remember though it is not like Oregon has had a great summer either. Their best defensive player is suspended and the same incident also involved their QB. Not to mention the Lyles mess.... Also, while i do agree that LSU always seems to be getting better by the time we play them late in the season, if you look at their schedule they have played a BCS out of conference game in one of their first 2 games the last 6 or so years (excluding 2008) and they have won every game. I will not be shocked if Oregon wins because they do return some talent offensively but I still think LSU's talent wins out...

LSU will beat oregon......b/c LSU has had MANY months to get ready for oregon's offense. you see what auburn was able to do to their high octane offense with 4 weeks of preparation. LSU's coaching staff has had the entire summer to prepare. LSU wins by a comfortable margin, atleast 7 pts.

Me too, Sip. I don't see LSU's defense being able to stop the Oregon high powered attack. Also, Georgia loses to Boise State big - 41-14.

The off-the-field distraction for LSU is certainly troubling. But Oregon's lack of size along the lines, especially on defense, will always doom them against an elite SEC team.

Unless LSU's entire team has their heads up their rears, this game isn't going to be a good one for Oregon. They will struggle to score, and when that offense can't convert 3rd downs, their smallish defense is doomed against an SEC offense that can pound the rock. I don't see Oregon scoring more than 20, and I think LSU's offense can put up 21 easily on their defense.

Oregon's offense is not hard to figure out. They rely on getting in and out of plays quickly so that a defense gets stuck with the wrong personnel on the field. Their actual scheme isn't a difficult one to break down. It's a read-option, and a few passing routes. This works well against finesse teams out West. It is a recipe for disaster against an NFL-like defense from the SEC. When Oregon's offense goes 3 and out, their defense is doomed.

Auburn proved that... Auburn's defense was FAR from elite. But with an elite DT (Fairley), Oregon looked amateur on offense.

It will be interesting to see what the LSU defense can do against the quack attack. All I can say is they better be in shape from the get go.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Oregon win, but I am picking LSU in this one (with or without the players in the fight). I do think Boise State will put a beating on Georgia, but we shall see.

Funny, I see the same arguments against Oregon, that I saw last January in the build up to the BCSNCG. As I remember, Oregon didn't wilt away and was not dominated by the aubarn D.

I'll take LSU by 10...Less Miles isn't going to take any actions against his players right now. He's going to say he's going to wait to see if they are charged, which won't happen in the next week or so.

I'll say we watched different games. Auburn's defense was middle of the pack at best in the SEC. Oregon was supposed to be an elite offense. They looked pedestrian in that game. Auburn fiddled around on offense all game and allowed Oregon to hang around.

Let's put it this way. The healthy Alabama team that played in the Capital One Bowl would have beaten Oregon by 50.

Now... I may be wrong come next Saturday. And I'll certainly admit it. But I was woefully underwhelmed by Oregon against Auburn last year.

The big thing though is that while Oregon's players are getting all fired up to prove something on national television, LSU players are hiring attorneys and giving police interviews.
Only four players. Only one starter. The rest of the team is pulling together over this and have a serious "we have something to prove" attitude. Jefferson is practicing. If he is too shaken by this to be steady, Les will play Lee and Mettenberger, just as if he would have had to do if Jefferson went down with an injury in practice.

Oregon fans on the LSU boards all summer think that their "blur" offense and team speed will have LSU worn out in the first half. LSU fans think that we see plenty of speed in the SEC and can handle it. LSU plans to play power football and a ball-control offense with long, 8-minute drives. Oregon can't score if they can't get the ball back. And when they do score it is something like 6 plays and 2 minutes and then their defense trudges back onto the field. LSU fans have seen LSU win some close games lately because they still had legs at the end.

So . . . will Oregon's offensive speed and no-huddle offense wear out LSU from chasing them . . . or will Oregon's defense wither in the 4th because of the physical SEC-style beating they are going to get in the trenches?

I'm thinking LSU 31-Oregon 24

I honestly feel this game could've gone either way. Oregon will have problems with LSU's speed and strength up front on defense. LSU will have problems with substitutions due to Oregon's no huddle O. The one thing that keeps popping up in my mind is Oregon can play better from behind than LSU can. But due to off the field issues, breaking in a new Kicker, new faces in the LSU secondary, and the potential that Pick Six Lee could be the starting QB. I see it as a game of what could've been for LSU. With post game headlines resembling those of last years opener against UNC. Only the shoe will be on the other foot.

You guys do all remember how bad the barn's defense was last year, right? They had one of the worst defenses in the SEC.

And they fully contained Oregon's "unstoppable" offense. LSU will do just as well, if not better.

The only question is whether or not their offense can put up some points. On that note, I actually think that losing Jefferson for the game is addition by subtraction. I think both Lee and Mettenberger are better QBs than Jefferson. For some reason, Miles has been unequivocally enamored with Jefferson. Both Lee and Mettenberger have the arm to help keep the defense honest, allowing the tiger's actual offensive strength - the running game - to do well.

LSU wins by 10, at least.
