DE / ATH Robert Nkemdiche decommits from Clemson

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Sip,

I hear what you are saying, but despite "missing" on players like Clowney, Ming, Montgomery and possibly Nkemiche, Bama has 2 BCSNC.

last time I checked, LSU with both Ming and Montgomery be leaving after this year w/o a ring and South Carolina is still South Carolina. Clowney will be leaving after 2013.

I think we realize that. However, we're talking about the future. The no-huddle is starting to take flight in the SEC.

Coach Saban has taken notice, obviously. And in lines of the conversation that this thread has taken, here's what Coach Saban said on the "Hey Coach" show tonight.

"Football as you knew it, football as I knew it, football as I grew up learning it, playing it ... it's not the same anymore. It's gone, it's different. There's eight times in the game where they snap the ball and there's eight seconds on the shot clock and we're not lined up on defense. Everybody's in no-huddle. You've got to play different, you've got to coach different, you can't do as many things on defense, you can't have sub groups.

"These are all the things we've been really, really good at -- using a lot of players in a lot of different roles. This year? Can't do it. Even if you put him in on third down as a substitute, you can't take them out if they make a first down. You're stuck, so you just can't do it.

"I do think that even the style of play, more space players, more speed, more athletic rushers -- all those things are really important. As the game changes, you've got to sort of change the kind of players you kind of need to win in your league. You've got to play who you've got to play. We've got to play those guys who we played last week and that's how they're going to play all the time. We've got to get players that fit that role better for us."

The quotes regarding subbing groups and dependence all the specialist type players has come back to bite us in the rear. While watching this past weeks game I finally realized we had gotten a little too cute in trying to use specific matchups in certain situations and constantly trying to sub this guy for this guy, etc.

Of course even with this nightmare of watching some of these players being subbed for almost leisurely trot off the field at times along with embarrasing confusion on the sidelines, we still could have won with better execution from the offense. IMO of course.

Or better defense in the first quarter.

Precisely correct that we've been too "cute" with how we are trying to win the football games especially on the defensive side. It also reminds me what an amazing defense we had last year.

It's really unrealistic to think that we could replace all of the play makers from last year's defense. What's really hurting us right now is the constant presence of Hightower in the front 7 and Barron in the secondary (SS who could play both run and cover).

So whats the latest on the RN decommitment?

I can read all the other hoopla in the football section.
