Re: The Cliffs...

Someone mentioned "The Pouch House" awhile back. My Dad opened that restaurant! I was about 7 years old. I live in California now, but I remember it being in front of an old run down putt putt golf place. My Dad also was a part owner of Crispy Chicken (or was it spelled Krispy), which I think was down the street from Namath's restaurant. There was also a BBQ place on that street, which I believe became a KFC. I remember a Taco Tico also. Last, is the Catfish Cabin still out there?

Man, memories of '76. Takes me back to a fine old time to be a kid.

I would say, "If you ever had breakfast at the Waysider", But wait, it is still there. Went back past weekend to see the Oakland Game and had breakfast there. That place has not changed a bit from what I remember back when. Eggs scrambled and Center Cut Ham and Red eye Gravy and little biscuits prepared exactly as I remembered it.

Bama-binos in Alberta City had our name on its map when mrs. exiled & I were newlyweds. Seems our place out in Holt was a bit off the beaten path...and that we were regular delivery customers. It was pretty funny to go in to pick up some pizzas for some event once & see "(exiled)" with directions on the map on the wall. I'd have felt bad about being that frequent of a customer, except that I didn't. And don't.

I can hear Johnny Shines singing "Tell Me, Mama" right now. When mrs. e & I saw him downtown on a few occasions, he couldn't play any more, but have mercy could he still sing!

I remember Bob Baumhower & his brother, David serving me wings or a "Farmer Brown" burger down on the strip in the off season when Bob was a DT with the Dolphins. mrs. e & I just hit up the current version of his eatery in Tuscaloosa...a tad fancier now.

Also, I'm glad Earle chimed in to make me feel young. I was getting bummed there about 1992-93 being called "old school" as I was long gone by then. :biggrin2:

To all the Camp Horne people: Are you still in the area, active with the council, and what years did you work at camp?
I worked there 1966 - 1969, 1971. Great boyhood memories. No longer live there but was active with other councils.

Oh, and sorry I was seven years late answering your question. :)

Definitely check out Gulf Shores & Dauphin Island down there by Mobile, check out the USS Alabama in Mobile too. Lake Eufaula is pretty awesome and if you go across the stateline to Georgia and check out the Little Grand Canyon thats an awesome place to go, its in a National Forrest. If you like ghost town type deals and stuff Peterman, Alabama near Monroeville is cool and in Monroeville itself they got alot of historic stuff. Selma too, lots of Civil Rights stuff and just a pretty, old style looking town in genreal. Conecuh National Forest is cool for camping and fishing and hiking and stuff too.
Yes.

Nick's Steak House. Nick would serve you under age and told you where the state troopers were waiting going back to campus. Mrs. Nick would not serve you without an ID. Small filet, baked potato, salad and tea, $3.00.

The aroma of the paper mill especially strong on Sunday nights.

Parking in the Woods Hall parking lot, windows steamed up.

Parking in the boonies because you had a White Sticker.

Dr. Horace Washburn cleaning out his ears with a ball point pen.

Pugs Cafeteria.

Seeing Coach Bryant every day in his white un-air conditioned 1963 Ford, windows all rolled down and a Chesterfield dangling from his mouth.

The Corner was new.

Standing in formation in wool uniforms on the Quad on Governors Day in 90 degree temperatures.

Doug Clark and the Hot Nuts and Poo Nanny and the Stormers.

Before I-20 was built.

Damn I am old.

I enjoyed Mamma Jewels, I was disappointed when it closed. There was nothing like pizza and a meatball parm sandwich from Tuts, though the International Deli had a good meatball parm sandwich, not to mention Uncle Arnold's bagels and cream cheese stand on the strip!
