The NCAA does not have many teeth left, at least in governing football, but SACS does.

If the academic fraud is as bad as it appears, then they may be facing losing their accreditation (again).

Are they still on SACS probation from the 2006 Sociology Dept scandal?

The SAC's probation was a one year term in 2003 stemming from BoT actions (Lowder regime) meddling in academics. I don't think they were ever got in any hot water about the sociology thing.

What I wonder about is why McNeil got offered a 3 year plea and Goodwin got offered a 21 year plea. Goodwin went to trial and got 15 years. Considering that if you are in the car, you are guilty too, it seems 3 years is a major gift. Does McNeil know more about payments, grades, etc? Does he think he can win in court? How? If the jury pool is Lee County, and Auburn Univ being the largest employer...this is stuff for TV movies--not real life, right?

From what I understand, McNeil is sticking to his story that he didn't know what they were up to until after the robbery. The three-year proffer tells me that the prosecution thinks he has at least an outside chance of making it stick...

Ah, I had the year and timeframe wrong. Appreciate the clarification.

McNeils story is possibly a shot across the bow of the barn ship.

Basically: "Either get me off the hook or I am telling EVERYTHING!"

I'm thinkinng he skates on some sort of technicality and the others go to jail based on someone having to face justice. Things are very predictable when it comes to the barn.

At the beginning of the thread, someone asked about the players suing Selena Rogers for defamation. IIRC, she saves herself by saying "allegation" or "allegedly." I know others in the thread said quit throwing out "allegation," etc, but that is what journalists have to do. It gives them the ability to tell the story without saying the action is fact (ala innocent until proven guilty).

There may be something as to the changed grades. It will be hard to corroborate anything else.
It's probably mostly true, but i am another who hopes nothing comes out of it. We all know that whenever the barners get their backs against the wall, they do things and try to lay traps to bring us down with them. They've become inept and lazy at doing the right things (hard work, fundamentals, preparation) to make themselves successful at football, so i'd rather just let them "stew in their own juices" than to get into NCAA trouble.

Mosley may be more of a threat than McNeil. Dyer will be very expensive to keep up for years.

She's bulletproof. On top of what you've said, most of the people she's writing about are public figures within the definition of the SCOTUS. They would have to prove not only that she's wrong, but she's doing it maliciously. IOW, not a chance in hell. Suing her is a dry hole, IMO...

Not only that, but Auburn would be ridiculously stupid to press the issue with her. The worst thing they could do is make her show proof of her allegations in court. I suppose the NCAA would figure out a way for that to not count, but it would make things even more obvious.

Yep. You and I were saying the same at the beginning. Just wanted to explain the use of "allegedly" in reports like this.

Well, then why did he "pull his black T-shirt over his face" when he went in to the house?

And Mike McNeill just plead guilty during the jury selection.
Some of the $ Lowder was able to get out of Colonial before it failed came in handy... McNeil is a much richer man than he was a few hours ago. The fambily makes the Gambino's and Genovese look legit...

Sounds like 15 years, with 12 suspended, serve 3 and 3 years probation. Still it's a sweetheart deal.
