Barn charging five bucks for their spring game

I seem to remember that there was a charge for our A-day in the 60's when I was in school. I think the receipts when to the A club for some project. Again, this was more than 40 years ago so I won't guarantee my memory is all that great.

I don't remember it, but I departed in 1963...

I was unaware they had always charged for A-Day. I think it is rather lame to charge for what is a glorified scrimmage where they don't show everything they can do and the rules are altered to where it isn't exactly a real game.

I honestly think Alabama needs to at least charge $5.00 -0 $10.00 for adults to help defray cost for SECURITY and stadium clean-up.

Of course they had a lot - new coach equals high turnout. Thing is ol' Chizik was so bad that even a 6 win season will be considered a major improvement. They'll fill it up again, but will stop going when he plateaus at the 7-8 win mark.

Fans are not going to show up for a glorified scrimmage each and every year. There was nothing really new to see and it was on television. To continue to get more than 75,000 every year is impressive, in my opinion. Auburn, on the other hand, has a new coaching staff and fans were there for the final rolling of Toomer's Corner.

I think this had more to do with their crowd than anything.

I think it would be a huge mistake to start charging people to attend A-Day. This is the one and only time of the year that many of our fans can afford to bring their families to Tuscaloosa and enjoy a 'game day' type atmosphere. With the gold mine our athletic dept and university are sitting on, I think they can afford to continue to offer this without charging for admission.
