John Amos on the sidelines for Colorado State

John Amos played the father on Good Times. He was on the side lines the first half. He spent a lot of time trying to pump up their fans. I wasn't sure if it was him but after a google search, I found out he played for Colorado State when he was younger. So I'm sure, this was him. I wish I would have taken a picture. Did anyone else get a picture of him?

They were keeping their heads above water...

He spent a lot of time trying to pump up their fans.
Making a "wave" when they can?

Temporary layoff?

So I'm sure, this was him.

True story:

I lived in Germany in the early 1980s. One of the guys a rank below my Dad was a sports official for every sport you can name. He had come to Germany from Edwards AFB. Out there he had actually been an official for some conference. He was calling a game in California and he noticed a guy on the sidelines near the coach who was not a member of the staff but looked incredibly familiar. He kept sneaking glances over there during the game (no doubt missing interferences - hey, Tom Ritter called!) and kept trying to figure out who exactly it was.

When the game was over, he went up to the guy and told him he looked incredibly familiar but he couldn't place who he was. The guy told him - my name is John Amos and I played the daddy on Good Times. Said he was a good guy.

He also played General Fitzwallace on The West Wing and Kunta Kinte in Roots.
Roots? Now you're making me feel old.

And just to clarify - he was the older Kunta Kinte. Threw me there - I'm thinking, "no, that was Levar Burton."

The same John Amos, who was (is) friends with John Gotti and Sammy "The Bull" Gravano. Nice.

Actor John Amos is the latest entry in John Gotti's parade of celebrities.
During the first two weeks of the Gravano trial, the government played the tapes from the Cirillo apartment as well as the others recorded from the Ravenite and the hallway beside it, and questioned many government agents. The courthouse, when testimony was not going on, had a circus-like atmosphere with Gotti loyalists Carlo Vaccarezza and Lewis Kasman orchestrating the production. They brought in celebrity cheerleaders, such as actors John Amos, Al Lewis, Mickey Rourke and Anthony Quinn to provide testimonials about the much-maligned Gambino boss to the news media.

The 2 and a half men stuff is on here after about a minute or so -- something about John Amos and Stacy Keach --well, that's funny right there.

Good Times was a spinoff of Maude, which was a spinoff of All in the Family. He later starred in another spinoff of AITF, 704 Hauser. It was about a black family that had moved into the Bunkers old house. It didn't last long.

Oh, that John Amos.

This is the John Amos I was thinking of.

John Amos 1924-1990

For those not familiar, this John Amos is/was the original founder of the AFLAC insurance corporation.
And rolling over in his grave about that irritating duck
