Re: During "Hey Coach," CNS Says Lindsay and Kelly will Share Duties on Saturday

The center makes the line calls, and those calls get better and better as a game progresses and the center begins to pick up what the defense is doing, and how. Rotating centers is not smart. I know what Saban is trying to do, but "fair" has no place in this kind of decision. One or the other (or both) will look/play worse because of it.

Now, that doesn't mean that they will necessarily play poorly - it just means that they will not play as well as they could have had they been in the game for every snap. I hope Saban learns what he needs to learn quickly, because if you are doing this against LSU, you are in trouble.

You all just calm down please, Coach knows we will be up by 40 before half time. Everyone plays :biggrin2:

I think many here are missing that fact that CNS has forgotten more about coaching football than all of us here know collectively. Let's relax and see what comes of this.

Agreed - I just hope that he doesn't "rotate" them. Let them both get playing time with the starters, but let them play for several series in a row to get into the flow of the game.

Re: During "Hey Coach," CNS Says Lindsay and Kelly will Share Duties on Saturday

I didn't listen to the show or his comments but what maybe happening is this is nothing more than a formality and some "red tape" that CNS is going through to not lose the player (Kelly) yet knowing the entire time the likelihood of Kelly coming in after missing several games and performing at the same level or better than Lindsay is slim to none. But rather than making that assumption and simply benching Kelly he wants to let him have his shot that way there will be no disputing because the tape doesn't lie.

I doubt Coach is going to play a game of rotating centers every other series or anything like that. More than likely he has already pre-determined one or two series at points early in the game that he will plug Kelly in and give him a go. But I doubt we will see Lindsay play one or two series then Kelly one or two series and this be the rotation for an entire game.

I didn't take CNS's comments to mean Chad and Ryan will rotate. I took him to mean Chad will start and Ryan will get some reps with the 1's when the game is in hand, similar to what Grant Hill did against Georgia State.

Based on what, exactly?

When is Coach Saban in a good mood? :)

I also saw that Coach mentioned something about a player having an issue with another player on the team.
-- Saban said he talked to a player today who had an issue with somebody else on the team. Frustrated that the player wouldn't talk about it. Stresses that communication is imperative. Says the player is being a hypocrite if he won't talk to the player he has an issue with.
I would be willing to bet this happens on every team, every season. You have 105 guys on a roster... I don't care how well things are going, there are going to be conflicts and there are going to be players that don't like each other.

However, it is concerning that he would go the route of publicly addressing this. Makes it seem worse than the usual cases. Hopefully, the guys can work it out.

When asked about the week, Saban didn't want to comment.

That's sad and can be a cancer to the team.

True, but you are talking about 85 PLUS KIDS from 17-27 (Jai is ??). Heck it's a miracle the whole thing doesn't just fall apart. There are a LOT of fragile psyches in that group, and all at various stages of (im)maturity. He may have used that specific example, but don't regard it as "a sudden problem". It's simply one of the many ongoing challenges of leading a large group of young men. Period. Don't read too much into it.

I was surprised about the conflict between players, he usually has a Great handle on this, maybe it was directed to one of the leaders to handle.

I don't see CNS not having them ready to play though, Coach Bryant would make you think practice was so bad we could not beat the Sisters of the Poor, then the team go out & clobber the opponent.

Yeah, you're right. I went back and read it and I don't think it's that serious of a thing. Still he has to talk to the guy. That's what men(grown-ups) do. CNS is right.

Idk why they are doing this. Lindsey has already proven himself as the better center. Look at the strides Alabama's offense had made.

Probably giving Kelly a chance to win it back. Competition is a good motivator.

Re: During "Hey Coach," CNS Says Lindsay and Kelly will Share Duties on Saturday

I have a gut feeling this game is not going to go well for Alabama. Arkansas isn't as bad as they really played last week and I do think the team has issues focusing on lesser apponents at home for some reason. If they get their run game going early it will limit our offensive snaps. After that all they need are a turnover or two to turn this into a fourth quarter game.
