I don't follow the murmurings, pressers, etc. of the Bama AD, but lets be clear about one thing. Battle, Alabama AD, is NOT Nick Saban's boss. No matter what the org chart says and lines of reporting are. There is not an organization in the world where a boss makes less than 10% of his employee and holds more sway and is the true boss of said employee. PERIOD. If there was a problem with Battle Saban has but to make 1 or 2 phone calls and there will be a vacancy for the A.D. job. To think otherwise is foolish in my opinion.

Saban is already the highest paid coach in CFB, and rightly so. But he is under contract until, what, 2019. He has worked long and hard to build a dynasty in Tuscaloosa and continues to recruit at an unbelievable pace to continue winning at an elite level. To me there is no reason to leave and to be honest I'd be disappointed if he is trying to strong-arm Bama to renegotiate his contract just because the cows will offer an absolute ridiculous contract paying more than many Super Bowl winning coaches in the NFL.

My 2 cents.
So, in reality, he is the AD for Football as well as Head Football Coach. Where can you get a better deal than that?

Bill Battle is AD for other athletics.

Can I ask you this...When Tx does hire a new coach and they pay let's say $7M...Do you think Alabama should pay more to CNS? I do.

So, who does Coach and Sexton deal with to make a DEAL? The President or the Chancellor? And final APPROVAL by the Board of Trustees.

It's hard to fathom Saban wanting to go into a conference which runs HUNH almost exclusively, when he hates defending it.
Since this has been commonly cited, I want to clarify something here. One of the main problems Saban has defending this offense is that it's not the offense EVERYONE runs. It's difficult to construct a defense which fairs equally well against all versions of the spread AND pro-style offenses. It is far easier to construct a defense to go against just one of them. What we've seen recently in the SEC recently is that there's now a mix. On one hand, you have the spread attacks of the Texas A&M and Auburn... and on the other hand, you have the pro-style attacks of LSU and Georgia. Construct for one... and you handicap yourself against the other and vice-versa.

Moving to a conference like the Big Twelve, for instance, might actually be EASIER when it comes to employing an effective defense week after week... because everyone operates within that type of attack. That, along with having only two real days to prepare for an opponent, is where we're struggling with the spread attacks... but to use it as a reason for Saban to reject a move is likely a non-factor, and maybe even a plus.

If I'm not badly mistaken, Saban doesn't answer to Battle... he answers directly to the president. I want to remember when he first came, it was a sticking point on his contract - and we gave him what he desired.

So do we need 2 Defensive Coordinators one for the Spread and one for Pro-style offenses. And recruit one set of defenders for the Spread and another for the Pro-style?

Here's why I don't care for Battle: a week after CNS BEGGED the fans to come to the Chatt game and stay the whole time, Battle says in an interview, that he doesn't blame the fans for leaving and that is was OK to leave after the 3rd quarter in a boring or blow out game! What AD says that??!!
Actually a little worse. The quote was close to "being ahead 35-0 in the third quarter."

If you've listened and watched in the past two years, you've seen Saban recruit two different kinds of DE's and DT's/NG's. IMO, that's exactly what he's doing... as hard as it may seem.

Good Lord... I just turned the TV on in my office and it was on one of those western channels. The movie: "Gone to Texas". Talk about something feeling like a bad omen.... I think I'm going to bed.

Hopefully tomorrow will bring good news. RTR

I don't really know any more and I've said all that I can possibly say publicly, so I, like everyone else, am just waiting to see where it ends up. There have been reports that it's already signed, but I can't vouch for them, whereas the news which made me uneasy came from a source very close to him personally. So, IDK...
Reports that its already been signed?? To stay at Bama?

Couldn't believe it when I heard that. Battle lost me there.

I may be wrong, but I interpreted that as the extension. The contrastive conjunctions "but" and "whereas" followed by bad news suggested to me that Earle was saying something maybe good.

But maybe I'm wrong.

The Saban's have said nothing about "not wanting" to be here, in fact, they have said quite the opposite.
"We're not sure" as in the fanbase. I didn't say the Sabans are unsure if they want to be here. As stated, Coach has neither done nor said anything to make me think he won't be here. Just clarifying...

Only my opinion, but Coach came here with Mal's blessing of having complete control. Mal is saddly gone and evidently the new guy didn't get the email. It seems to me that Coach is probably dictating his authority to the powers that be and trying to get all players in the same game. Best thing that could happen is for the higher ups tell BB worry about the other sports, Coach has the football under control, or see ya later. Hopefully it will work out for the best and the power brokers don't screw this up.
I may be off on this line of thinking, IDK.

Looks like there may be another vacancy in the state of Texas! The Cowboys look horrible!
