I honestly think that the key is to somehow recruit a true inside legitimate offensive threat that teams have to pay attention to. That would help our perimeter game immensely.
Of course it's Coach Grant's responsibility to recruit such a player(s), and thus far, that's the one area where he has had basically little or no real success. There's got to be another Erwin Dudley or Antonio McDyess somewhere out there. If we can find one or two of those and actually get them to Tuscaloosa then our guards will have it much easier on the perimeter.
Tonight, I'm afraid, will be a glaring testimonial to how weak we are inside. From a match up stand point, Tennessee may have more of an advantage against us than any team we'll face.
They're huge under the bucket. I'll pull for us though and we'll just see. sip
I was saying that for the last two seasons. Look at the other players, though. They aren't playing basketball. I'm not even sure what they're playing.

The game tonight is hard to figure out. Their season is sort of a mirror of Bama's. They win at home, but play poorly and lose on the road. Cuonzo Martin is definitely on the hot seat up here. He seems to have tight reins on their offense, just like CAG.

I understand to a degree why we went primarily zone, but still, that's not us or our identity under Grant. I agree with you. We've looked almost lackadaisical lately. Nobody's playing what you could identify as "Basketball". Let's get back to being aggressive, create turnovers, up the tempo, and for goodness sake, shoot the dad gummed basketball.

Are there any NBA coaches who were once very successful college coaches who aren't doing well in the pros who might want to drop back down? (If it worked for football......).

I wonder if this is due to Battle's knowledge of Pearl at UT? Maybe bad blood between the two?

Probably refers to Pearl, who doesn't come out from "show cause" until August. I can't see us hiring someone even freshly off show cause. I could be wrong, but I don't think so...

Sip with all due respect. Hale is a legitimate inside threat and is getting better and better. What about TR Dunn? He is a respected pro coach and would be a natural fit. He left the staff of CMG after he was denied a very reasonable raise request. I was told 25,000.

TR is a defensive specialist and a damned good one. However, that's not what we need. If we hire him, he would have to turn around and turn over offense to a good offensive coach. Not many can do that. It seems to me, in both BB and FB, that it's easier for an offensive coach to turn over the offense...

i'm thinking he means in the mold of a McDyess or Caffey type. Or even a Hendrix. Someone athletic with size who can bang. on another note, i wish we had more talent. the talent on display in this duke/cuse game is unreal.

There are a few ways to look at this:

1) Little player development because the 2011 recruiting class was top 5.
2) Duke and Syracuse don't struggle to get elite players. Can compare it to MSU saying they want elite players in football like Bama has.

that is true. But to not have 1 guy on that level is inexcusable be it from lack of development or bad evaluation. we're not exactly auburn in terms of our basketball success in the past.

T.R. and I went to school together at Bidgood. I'd love to see him get an opportunity. Hale is our best fundamental basketball player, in my opinion, even as a freshman. BUT-he's more of a perimeter forward. I'm talking about a guy like Stokes from UT. That big heavy, physical guy, who can wipe the boards or knock people out of the way and get the lay up.

I think it is time to make a change NOW! Like tonight! We need to finish this season out with an interim coach. ZERO excuse for our performances this week or in the win over LSU blowing the 19 point lead. We might win 1 game the rest of the year w CAG at the helm I think he has now lost the team. One thing that you could always count on was that our teams played hard. We have played hard the last 2 games.

Yep. Cecil knows.

I fear we'll become a major laughing stock if we don't make a move.

I think we already are a major laughing stock.... Sounds bad but, I hope we lose out at Battle sees more AU fans at Coleman than BAMA fans... He is a marketing guy so, I bet he would understand empty seats and cancelled season tickets.

I don't want to see TR Dunn as our coach. I'd love for us to throw some money at Gregg Marshall. We'd probably have to go to the "it" mid major coach and hope it works out.
