How do you feel about the Sugar Bowl loss?

It was the first time we'd lost two consecutive games since 2008. I felt horrible.

But now, it's a new team, a new season coming, and there is a lot to be excited about.

I see it as a very teachable moment that CNS will milk into another National Championship...or two.
 
The players didn't show up mentally for our biggest rival. They couldn't keep their heads in the game on some of the biggest plays of the year. They had a national championship on the line! Why would I expect any different once auburn did what they did? I'm being tough on them I know. I bet there are some players and coaches that would agree though. :rolleye2:
 
Some of y;all seem too willing to just chalk it up as being just one of those things. That baffles me.

This may not have been a great OU team, but don't BS yourselves, they have athletes and should NEVER be taken lightly. Especially under the circumstances......BCS bowl, night game on national TV between two premier programs representing two premier conferences. Heck, if nothing else, repping the SEC in a bowl matchup should have been a huge factor.

Yeah, the IB loss knocked a lot of the luster off the season, but Holy Moley, we had a MONTH to get our minds right and show what we were made of and prove the barn loss was just a fluke. Besides, winning that game guarantees us a spot in the top 5 nationally. (please don't anyone tell me it's not important)

The 2010 team suffered through a 3 loss season including a horrible loss to the boogs, but they still had the character to rebound and demolished a very good MSU team in the bowl. That was all I wanted in the SB, not necessarily a blow-out like MSU, but at least show up.

There has been much written and said about the pride of wearing that Crimson jersey. Iguess that is what bothers me the most, We can't ever afford to lose that pride.
 
I feel BITTER. It's another game we should have won.
We owed OK. a whipping and didn't deliver.

Lately it seems when we loose a game late, we haven't bounced back.
They act like the season's over...
It is disappointing, but the job wasn't finished. I believe in finishing strong...
It's like we get all hung up over past games, and the effort isn't there at the next big game.
Gotta lay part of the blame on last years coaching staff. It's their job to get em ready.
I suspect that's why we have several new faces on our staff this year.

Next to us and Notre Dame, Oklahoma has the richest tradition in all of college football.

If you can't get motivated to play against that, there's a problem.

I have given some more thought to this and, IMO, it is the "new college football" not what a lot of us grew up with. Now that is not necessarily good or bad, but it is totally different. This response goes hand in hand with my continual rant against too many crappy teams and too many crappy bowl games, or in the words of Ricky Bobby's father, "if you ain't first you are last". I am afraid this mindset has something to do with not only the number of bowl games, but the relevance of any bowl game that is not for the NC and apparently that applies to even the BCS bowl games.

The bowl game is no longer viewed as a reward, so outside of pride and a few extra weeks of practice what is the incentive to show up for any bowl that is not for the NC. This lack of desire on the part of the players to "kick arse" in a bowl game has to be a coaching nightmare.

In all fairness, the new playoff system will at least make 2 games important rather than the 1 game under the old BCS system.
 
Well, with the playoffs here we better "get up" for every game or there will be no shot at a Championship!
 
I admit I feel apathetic over the OU loss because I still feel like Tyson on the mat scrambling for the mouthpiece after Buster Douglas (AU) landed a KO punch. I just CANNOT get over the Iron Bowl loss. This is the worst I've felt since the '89 game. I HATE them and can't understand how we continue to let them beat us with inferior teams. Winning the Sugar Bowl would have been preferable to losing sure but either way I would still feel this bad after we hurled all over ourselves against the Barn.

The mottos for the "playoff era" for us need to be:

1. Every game is important and you can't take one off.
2. Get up for LSU
3. Get up for Auburn -- not getting into the SECCG or 4 team playoff if we don't beat Auburn. We need to have a renewed focus on "dominating Auburn" every year.
4. Focus and Finish -- ask the Basketball Gators if you can lay an egg in the semis???
5. Get to the final game and let CNS do his thing -- he's undefeated in championship games!!!
 
Kids today don't recognize any of those teams as Dynasties. To them the Dynasties come from the 90's up until now. Their Powerhouses are Miami, FSU, USC, Florida and Alabama.

Like it or not, Auburn is also making a lot of lists. Not a Dynasty, but their highs have been pretty high.
 
With all the smack Bob Stoops was talking, literally all year, this was a perfect opportunity to shut him up. Instead we let him back it up. That loss was embarrassing and leaves a bad taste in the mouth for 8 months. For me only an SEC championship appearance will wipe it away.
 
One of the things I hate about big time recruiting is that many of our players simply don't "get" what it means to play for Alabama. The fact that they live in an academic bubble makes it worse. The fact that our coaching staff treats everything in a business-like, process-oriented manner compounds it. The fact that we recruit on a national basis and our player interaction is limited as it concerns UA legends and some of these guys never walk through the Bryant Museum after their OV is over.... I can't argue with the results, but i have to point to this when we can't approach an Auburn game with a visceral hatred and we don't show up for bowl games that will enhance our legacy as the dominant program in college football history, eastern media bias be damned.

And I predict a growing frustration on the part of old-school fans at Alabama and every other school that continutes to see players shuffle through in this manner.
 
Maybe more benefits and a larger stipend will make them "care"?

But then, I suppose it's up to the coaching staff to impress upon the kids the history associated w these other programs...
