What's a little rain? Well, it doesn't belong inside the house!

This lovely rain event of the past couple of days laid waste to a lot of areas in and around Pensacola, FL, overnight. The steady thunder storming began yesterday afternoon around 4:30pm here and since then has dumped around 20" (give or take a couple) on us. I was awakened around 3:40am by a powerful boom of thunder and checked the radar and facebook only to see that a lady we know in our neighborhood had posted that the water was nearly inside her house. I checked our back yard (backs up to a pond that's a water feature on the golf course) and the pond was out of its banks. Got dressed and the husband and I checked the front yard to find the water at the door.

Knowing we had just a short amount of time, we got as much furniture and belongings up off the floor as possible, turned off the breakers (we have some floor and low wall outlets), woke the girls and waited. The water started coming in right around 4am. By 6am, we noticed it was receding a little. By 6:30am, we were all pushing water out of the house (brooms, squeegees, you name it!). We got about 8" in the garage, between 2-3" inside the house, and about 4" in the Florida room. Took video and pictures for the insurance.

So, now I'm taking a little break because it's not even 10am and my hands already have blisters, my feet are sore from the wetness, and my back hurts. BUT in the grand scheme of things, this is NOTHING compared to our Katrina damage. This is just like a painful boil that has to be lanced and tended to or it'l get infected. Not looking forward to the work ahead (carpets coming up, sheetrock and insulation being cut out, bleaching & drying of the insides of the walls...the list goes on and on).

Anyway, many thoughts headed the way of those in the areas affected by this system over the past few days. I'll be glad to see it pass on out of the area later today.

I got lucky, my road got flooded but my house was spared. My friend who lives about 2 miles from me wasn't so lucky. He now has an aquarium about 2 feet deep in his back yard that you can see with his sliding glass door.

I woke up to a leak dripping on me this morning and thought I had it bad

Glad you are ok and hope you didn't lose anything you treasure.

I went to work this morning. The cable was out so I didn't watch the news, had no idea things had gotten this bad. Several roads were closed but I found a way to work, only to find out we were closed. Watching the news now, they are saying Pensacola got 26 inches last night. Here in Milton we only got 12 inches.

Hope all is well Doc - friends in OB say things won't get better there before tomorrow. Saw a picture of Ono Island and all you could see was the roofs of the houses - looked like a tidal surge from hurricane.
We don't need this dang much rain all at once. I heard P'cola now has gotten 33" of rain in April.

One of my boss' had a tree fall on his roof. It did not cause a lot of damage. He said it was very loud at 4:30 in the morning. And to think we all laughed at him when he overdesigned the structure of his roof. We thought it was overkill for his roof. He used steel in a house. He is the one laughing now.

Awww Rattlehead, you consider me a friend? Yeah I think it got to around 2 feet in my back yard. My sliding glass door started to look like a fish tank...and yes that is an Alabama grill cover you can see through the door. Luckily my grill didn't float away.

These pictures from Scenic highway are pretty crazy. I take this road to work every day, well I did at least...
