It's the off-season & time of year to pick on the poor Barners..It's hard not to when they gives you so much ammunition to use against them..You have to love "Barner Logic" & how they get all worked up when a HC has one good season & beats Bama..They sign them to a huge contract they have to pay..Even when they fire them after they lose to Bama a year or two in a row..And they wanna fire them & hire the new hot HC they think gives them their best chance to keep up & beat Bama..It's truly staggering at the sheer amount of $$$$ they're having to pay to past HC's they kicked to the curb..I would love to coach there if I were a HC, beat Bama 1 year, and you're set for life if you never beat us ever again..

It would be funny if they fired him after the 2014 season. I know it won't happen, but the amount of money they would owe him is staggering.

Saw it. Couldn't believe it. Scab is at his best when he picks on the Barners.

But what would it take for the Barners to implode and Gus to find himself on the hotseat the next couple of years???

If I'm a Barner, I'd be real concerned that my team can't seem to ever sustain any success.

I don't buy that just because they were great last year that they'll be able to sustain that kind of success this year, or necessarily in multiple years going forward. When lady luck turns and they have a couple 8-4 years in a row it'll get real interesting how much love CGM gets then.

Yup..And SEC DC's will figure out the "Gus Bus" offense & start shutting it down on a consistent basis..The Barners will either have to live with that or fire another HC & have him on payroll despite him being fired..Us humans are supposed to live N learn from our mistake & not make those same mistakes over & over & over & over again..Being a Barner Fan has to be like living out the "Ground Hog" movie in real life & their bad dreams keeps repeating itself over & over again..

Contracts like this are stupid because they remove the incentive to work. Gus is now set for life. All he has to do is show up for work and not do anything stupid. The enemy of every successful person is complacency. Some people manage to defeat complacency - but not many.

I'll just leave this right here for y'all to read if you dare. Warning: It's from ITAT, but it's their reaction to CNS's contract approval and it has many post. There's one about Gus' new contract without one comment.

The morons are looking at Gus's contract from only their side. They aren't considering the fact they will fire him someday.

it seems to me the barners are more worried about their coach being hired out from under them more than they are worried about him not being able to sustain his first year success.

We all know how Lucy is supposed to hold the football until it's kicked...she's promised to not pull it out this time...

Don't the barners realize Karma, or Fate sometimes disguises herself as Lucy?

Here we go again, regular as clockwork.

They honestly have no idea what's going on. They are living in some kind of bizzaro world. They have NEVER been able to sustain success and they seriously think they will be able to do it while Nick Saban is coaching at their biggest rival?

Those buyout numbers are ridiculous. I'm not just saying that because it is AU I would say that about any school and coach. Like others have pointed out it removes incentive to continue to work hard. And not to mention last season, which that contract is based on, had two of the flukiest wins you will ever see in your life. Should have easily lost to UGA and Bama last year. I think AU is set up for a big flop this year like the year after they won it with Chizik. Coach has new huge contract and huge expectations this year being preseason top 5.

The barner AD is already explaining why the barners won't have as good a season coming up despite the big new contract:

"You just never know," Jacobs said. "You can have one of the best teams you've had in a few years but if everybody else in this league does, then your record may not reflect the best record you've had in a few years.

The article goes on to remind the reader that last season
Auburn won four games in come-from-behind fashion in the fourth quarter in 2013. The Tigers knocked off three of those opponents in the final minute, but also fell to Florida State with 13 seconds remaining in the BCS National Championship.

what you guys just fail to realize is that Gus and the Barn are never ever going to lose another game in the history of ever. ask any Barn fan and they will let you know the "truth".

You are correct I have heard several of them already talking about having to play UGA twice next year stating they will be their toughest competition. We are right in there with Ole Miss to them as far as competition level goes.

I hope CNS has a little something special planned for Auburn in the coming years. Don't just beat them. Dishonor them. As for the rest of the SEC, I hope they've been watching tape. Don't let the defense get caught up in all that bogus pre-snap motion and you'll be alright. Malzhan's offense wouldn't be half as effective if defenses weren't confused.

Why should anybody from Alabama care that Auburn is going to have to pay a cement mixer full of cash to get rid of the guy?

On a more serious note, this is comical and represents a complete lack of rationale.

Where would Gus leave Auburn to go on his own volition? Can you name anywhere?

Oregon maybe. Texas, but that's out of the picture now. Where else would he go? Florida perhaps? Here's the part I don't get: any place Gus would actually leave Auburn to go is a place that can already outbid Auburn for his services anyway and is not going to be frightened by a huge bailout price tag.

The NFL is not going to come calling.

Let's be honest: we all know that Chizik got that generosity to buy his silence with the NCAA pounding on the door. They had no choice but to promise him enough up front that he'd never talk.

That is literally the only reason I can think of for over-paying Gus. When Auburn loses to K-State, LSU, a game they ought to win (MSU or Ole Miss, for example), and to Alabama this year, the natives in Opelika are gonna be pretty upset.

It could get interesting if Gus' home state, Arkansas, had an opening. I wouldn't be surprised if they opened up the bank for him and you know he'd at least be tempted...not saying he'd leave, but at least tempted.

I can see Arkansas as a possibility, good program, plenty of money and no instate shadow to compete with. OTOH, I contend that auburn under Malzahn is not going to be the walkover most on here believe. They do have a formidable schedule next year and could be anywhere between 7-5 and 11-1.

As for his contract and buyout, they are collective fools, but what is new. I have been on the record here of underestimating Malzahn, but I was wrong, and while they may never come as close to winning a NC as they did last year I would never underestimate auburn under him again.

I don't think they will be pushovers but let's not act like they are about to start a dynasty run either. Chizik has accomplished more at AU then Malzahn has. Think about that. I see them losing between 2-4 games this year. That is just their MO when they start of the season highly ranked. All the hype and excitement around their program is based upon 2 of the flukiest wins you'll ever see. When is the last time AU dominated anybody? Yes they have some games against good teams but almost all of those were by miracles.
