Official "What Ohio State fans are saying about the matchup" thread

That's how it is in places up north. Get out of NYC, Chicago, Detroit, Cincy, Cleveland, Philly, Pittsburgh, Boston, Minneapolis, Indianapolis etc... There are people just as "country" as people down south. I'm speaking from first hand accounts from other Marines I served with.

"Pennsylvania is Philadelphia on one end, Pittsburgh on the other, and Alabama in between."

edit: Ah, missed where this was earlier referenced.

What happened between Arkansas and Ohio State fans???

Sorry it took so long to answer this, I didn't see it. ARKANSAS were pounding their Chest about SEC, SEC and how they were going to kill the Buckeyes, Buckeyes starting responding with the stereotypical trailer park, hillbilly incest type comments. Arky fans started talking about Tattoos and cheating, the Buckeyes responding with threads about over signing and cheating. It melted down fairly quick to mudslinging and name calling.

I don't mind little trash talk or ribbing as long as it is the context of football, but personal attacks and attacks on society issues are out of bounds.

Having lived in Filthydelphia and armPITtsburgh (both against my will), as well as Birmingham, I would have to take exception to that.

Yes, Alabama has some very poor areas. If anyone remembers the movie The Deer Hunter, that is an accurate portrayal of the middle of the state. Including places right outside (if not inside) Pittsburgh.
A lot of eastern Ohio is not much different, except for the flat(ter) farming areas.

This takes me back to my Navy days aboard the USS Lexington. My two bst buds were both from Pennsylvania, one from Philly, one from Canonsburg, near Pittsburgh. The one from Canonsburg would say things like "we'uns and you'uns."

The one from Philly liked to say that he spoke better "Alabama" than I did. ;)

Wonder if they'll have Papa John's on hand after the game?

Is that a Bama jacket he is wearing?

I worked for a Toronto based company in Atlanta. They brought in a president from Pittsburgh, and he brought an entire management team with him. They were definitely more red neck than we were. Even at that level of a major company. They loved the Steelers and could always count on luxury box tickets to Falcons games except when they played Pittsburgh.

OSU are a very talented team but so was the last Florida team that Urban Myth coached against Alabama and we all know how that ended!! I'm looking forward to a great game with the Tide winning the game, of course.

I'm just hoping OSU fans aren't like Michigan fans. Michigan fans gave us so much crap that didn't even pertain to football and were very vulgar about it. They were worse than auburn and lsu.

I'm not passing judgement on OSU fans since I haven't watched a game with them, and I'm truly hoping those remarks don't reflect their crowd coming to NOLA. But it isn't very comforting reading those threads. Here's to hoping

Not to disagree with you but this is where our experiences diverge and perhaps become anecdotes. I was at the Michigan game here in DFW and the Michigan fans I ran into came in expecting to lose and were very classy in my section.

The biggest, loudest-mouthed jerk was a Tide fan a few seats over. Amazingly enough, I had the same experience at BDS this past September 20 in the Florida game - a Tide fan about five seats over was an obnoxious jerk who I would have loved to to have tossed over the side of BDS to the concrete. He made it unpleasant even for the Bama fans in our section, most of whom acted like a big family. I even asked the 18-year old gals next to me if he was with them and they were like, "No, oh no."

He acted like a Marine just out of boot camp with too many shots of morning liquid courage.

Its a sad reality that nobody's fanbase is totally as good as they want to believe nor as bad as everyone else says about them either. When you're a big time program with a huge fanbase, you're gonna see all sorts of people wearing your team's colors. Just like the rest of the world, some of them are not great people.

Lets not forget that sporting events usually are accompanied with drinking and that doesn't exactly help things either. Some people get a little too crass and combative a few too many in. Also, young men are bigger hotheads on average and college football will have a lot of that age group around.

Many experts believe it goes back even further to Scotland in the 1600's as many of the people who settled Appalachia were Scottish-Irish in decent. Ditto for hillbilly. Not everyone agrees on the origins, though. Either way, I strangely don't feel very insulted when a bunch of yankees who don't even have a clue whatsoever about the meaning or origin or the terms used by them to try to insult Southerners. They always have thought they are better than us in just about every way. That's a big part of the reason that Alabama football has been so important through the years. And now the South has advanced so far socioeconomically that we are ahead or getting there in many important areas. And they can't stand it. I just chuckle inside because I know the truth about them, even if they don't think I do. Bless their little yankee hearts!
Well, you'd think they had to get the idea somewhere. The Scots also have their rep for rebellion. The idea to debunk is what many thing, that the expression came from plowing in the sun and getting a sunburned neck...

I'm more referring to the orange bowl game when Brady torched us and we missed an extra point in ot. And yes I too have had more problems with bama fans at games than I have had with anyone else in the the stadium if we are going of consistently seeing different fans. I'm not going into to Nola looking for trouble but I'm hoping both sides are civil to each other to the point where geographics and intelligence are thrown around instead of football.

First post here and y'all seem like a solid group. I'm looking forward to the match up and to spending a few days in NOLA interacting with Alabama fans. The last two trips were spent against LSU and Arkansas fans so I expect this to be an upgrade over those experiences. I think a lot of Buckeye fans are gun shy after seeing what those fan bases had to offer.

Every fan base especially those as large and as passionate as Alabama and Ohio State have their idiots. Please don't let those few cloud your judgement.

You'll meet some idiot fans in New Orleans, no doubt. Especially with all the drinking that will be happening (I'll have my fair share as well). Don't judge us too badly based on some of the idiots :)

For what it's worth I have lived in Columbus for 7 years now. Great place to live. I grew up in Pennsylvania, graduated from UA in 2000 and my family now lives outside of Montgomery. PA is my home and I love it there, but Columbus is really a growing area and is a great place to raise a family.

Fan wise, Buckeye fans are just like Tide fans. There really is very little difference. There are great fans and there are jerks and you will probably run into both. I run into them here and I'm sure it's the same situation for any Buckeye fan who lives in the Birmingham/Tuscaloosa region.

Also, rural Ohio isn't any different than a trip to Slap Out, AL.

Well I guess we both equally hate Notre Lame just as much. [emoji6]
