This current version of college football is not what I grew up loving to follow. Almost more scandals and disgusting situations than there are things to cheer for.
It was happening then, the information age has just made it harder to hide now.

Well certainly Bama should get its 21 wins restored that were vacated because some athletes got some extra books.

Never cared about the wins. This was never a football issue - it was a legal issue. The involvement of football staff does not change that. Making it a football issue allowed Penn State to survive as an institution. Therein was the mistake.

Many innocent people suffered (and are still suffering today) because of the actions taken by this institution. All of those who are so ready to forgive and forget what happened at Penn State should remember that - those kids had their lives damaged permanently. How must they feel to see that their story is already forgotten? Does anyone really care about them? Did anyone ever really care about them?

IMO, the school should have lost its accreditation and been shut down.
Could not agree more.

This is absurd- they are simply bowing to the pressure of the lawsuits filed by the Paterno family and supporters . Many Penn St fans always say there is no way Joe knew about this- ridiculous. How could he not have known- along with many other people in that program. The truth was too horrible to acknowledge. Even Sandusky's wife has never admitted her husbands guilt.

This is outrageous. The NCAA has just set a precedence that even harboring and enabling a child rapist for decades, to keep from hurting the football program, is not grounds for vacating wins. I think Alabama and every other school that ever had wins vacated should sue the NCAA to have those wins restored.

This is what I said all along. It was an institutional problem. Can't figure out why some want to blame the football players and not the U.

This is a joke, but it follows what has been happening at FSU as well. The truth is covering up for a rapist really might be worth it, if all you care about is the football team...

Just in case anyone is confused about this issue, when Penn State (and Paterno) first became aware of what Sandusky had been up to, they waited until after the football season was over to quietly dismiss him. You heard that right, he was raping children, but let's wait until the season is over before we take even that wholly inadequate step.
And even after the dismissal, Sandusky was still granted full access to PSU AD facilities.

Paterno's legacy has been restored. His steadfast and moral leadership during his time as head coach surely should not be muddied by his refusal to expose a pedophile.
Can't imagine the renewed suffering this must provoke in those who suffered as children. I wish I was surprised but in today's world with corruption excused for the greater good, this is to be expected.

In the film Full Metal Jacket, there's a scene where Private Joker admits he doesn't believe in the Virgin Mary, which infuriates his drill instructor. The instructor gives him the chance to change his stance, but Joker realizes that changing his stance at that point would make things worse, by exposing himself as having no integrity.

The NCAA has no integrity. It has a huge rulebook, but it isn't governed by rules. It's governed by whims.
