In fairness, there's a Heisman winner every year. When I read your post, I immediately went to ESPN to read about the Warriors all time greatest winning streak in professional history ending.

Yes, I have to say I enjoyed that too.

That's what happens when ESPN hypes someone as the new "clear leader" and invents built in excuses if he loses like conference or racial bias to boost ratings. It's borderline irresponsible, IMO.

To be fair, ESPN pumped Henry for a solid month after the LSU game. McCaffrey only got that benefit for a few days before the voting ended. ESPN helped Henry win this award - before they tried to undo what they had done.

Congrats to Henry, very happy for him. Very deserving Heisman winner and ambassador for Alabama. He's had an amazing season.

To BE the man, you've got to BEAT the man! When he bested Leonard Fournette, he beat the man.

You've also got to have a Booster and University driven campaign behind you. I remember at FSU when Charlie Ward won the Heisman. PR all around town and the State driven by the University.

I loved Derrick's speech particularly his recognition and remembrance of Altee Tenpenny at the end. I know he was a polarizing figure on this board at times, but Altee was clearly loved by his Bama brothers, and the impact of his loss was greater than anything I could've known being on the outside looking in.

I know I am biased...but in my opinion Derrick Henry is the best running back in SEC history.

Hershel was fantastic, but he has a lot of nostalgia working for him now.

Hard to compare across eras. Back then offenses were designed to run the ball more than pass, and defenses were designed to stop the run first. Every defense was designed the way that Alabama and LSU play defense today. Not saying that Henry couldn't do just as well back then, but who is to say what Walker could do in a versatile pro-set Alabama offense.

What was really amazing was Walker's physique. Hershel was like today's athletes without benefit of modern methodology. What might he have been like in Alabama's current S&C program?
