I wonder which house the Sorting Hat put him in.

Oh who am I kidding, he's obviously a Slytherin.

Hufflepuff. Slytherin are cunning, remember?

I don't know what any of that means...:conf3:

I'm having a new found respect for Cam. See Audub's link and this one. Maybe he gained some humility from the Super Bowl but maybe he's been maturing all along anyways. I tend to think the latter. Life usually works that way.
I never thought much about Cam either way but helping the homeless is a reason for me to like him. Nice job Cam.

Usually means not always... :cool2:

Cam's sense of community service and charity has been exemplary during and since his time at Auburn. My theory is that the mess at UF and subsequent time at Blinn probably did it

Pfffflb....:cool2:

I'll cut him slack for this one. He got excited and made a mistake. It is a meaningless game and now he (and the team) will hopefully have learned a lesson. Getting flagged for it now and it will stick on their mind not to do it when it counts.

He didn't own up to the mistake. He basically said it was a team mistake and not on him...HUGE difference. :cool2:

Look, I applaud him for all the stuff he does with kids and charities, and all that. But (big but) there are some people that you can just tell aren't genuine. Cam is one of those people. He strikes me as the kind of person that only does "the good things" because he knows it's good for his image. You can tell he hasn't matured at all and still doesn't understand the game isn't all about him.

I know it's popular to 'hate on' Cam Newton, and some of the criticisms are unquestionably valid. But let me make a couple of points here:

1) Cam Newton making a stupid play in a PRE-SEASON GAME is no more a bad reflection on Auburn than Terrance Cody going to JAIL for animal neglect (or whatever the specifics are) is on Alabama. Hey, it's not like Cam pulled what his former teammate did - the one with a permanent residence within hearing distance of Gillette Stadium. I don't think that Michael Vick's prison time makes Va Tech look bad - it makes Vick look bad. I just don't think we should be living in a glass house here. Do the prison sentences of Sherman Williams and Jimmy Johns or the probation and fraud of Brian Burgdorf somehow embarrass Alabama?

I just don't think so - not in that much of a substantive way anyway.

2) For all the talk of Cam's clothes, let's be honest - if he had WON the Super Bowl then everyone would want to dress like Cam ("everyone" being used colloquially and not ultra-literally). It's like the 1986 Miami Hurricanes. They show up in fatigues and lose and they're punks; if they had won, everybody would have wanted to wear battle fatigues. (And given what came out as the years went by, Miami's thuggery was choir boy behavior next to what a certain DC on the opposition was doing).

Cam is a young and spirited guy who is going to make some mistakes. I just hope they're not the ones that hurt other people.

In 1982, Georgetown lost to North Carolina in a classic NCAA title game. The critical play of the game saw Freddie Brown accidentally pass the ball to UNC's James Worthy - and Georgetown was dead. As much as I despise John Thompson's sometimes racial appeals and excuses, I still like what he is alleged to have told Brown (paraphrasing) that if that's the worst thing he ever did then he was going to have been an outstanding human being.

I know he's flame bait here, and I can't say I even care that much for him. Maybe it's just my hope for consistency from people overcoming my fandom.

Funny how the press got a hold of all this "good deeds" by "Me-Me" Cam. The guy is a multi-millionaire...have you EVER seen a football player jump away from a fumble? Sorry Dub, I'm not buying what you're selling.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

We're not seeing all of it. He dedicates a lot of time and effort to being a decent individual, and we only see a few of them by strokes of luck. If you think there's some sort of grand conspiracy, so be it.
