Plain Trouble on "Da Plains" (all AU posts here)

UGa>Tennessee but Vandy>Missouri. I'm looking forward to a return of Stidham being sacked when UGA comes to the plains in November. It's still hard to tell how good Auburn is since Clemson. They've played Mercer(ha), Missouri(14th SEC team) and Ms State(fools gold after LSU, may only beat Arky and Ole Miss). All it takes is one of the RB getting nicked and the offense will sputter.

Just my "Peanut Gallery" opinion - and I may be proven dead wrong this weekend, but from where I'm sitting, there are ONLY TWO "good" teams in the whole SEC - Alabama, and a step or two behind us, UGa.

After those two, I think there's a big gap - and Either aTm or possibly aubarn in the next spot. Then after those two, another big gap to the rest of the conference. In other words - 12 of 14 SEC teams are "No Great Shakes", and 10 of 14 outright Suck. :-(

Just what I'm seeing here at the 1/3 mark of the season. Still LOTS of football left to be played, and far too many chances for our players to get swollen ego's and take their collective foot OFF the gas pedal - the way we did in 2014, '13, '12, and '10.

Yes, it's a silly put down. Sort of like y'all calling us West Georgia or our old official names, API or EAMC.

Just being goofy by implying you're a satellite campus, like with UAB or UAH.

Thanks, and I agree. That ( UAT ), API and EAMC are all in the same category and are really quite silly in the way and spirit in which they`re employed.

So we're right and you guys are goofy? Copy that.

You do realize some of us are old enough to remember API is the name we grew up with. Which is why a lot of kids had it in their mind that was the place to go, to study engineering.

Unlike some of us, who wanted to go to GT, but I digress. (Never mind the bitter rivalry between GT and Bama.)

Had a high school teacher whose brother went to Auburn. She's not that old, so I suspect he'd be in his late 30s or early 40s. He received a letter one day with API letterhead.

It was changed in 1960. Was called Auburn informally for many years before that. My grandfather matriculated after his service in the pacific theater, and Auburn is all it ever was to him.

Of course, but calling us API these days is just needling.
That was the actual name though. To me it's like calling Muhammad Ali by his birth name, Cassius Clay. Yeah, it's a bit disrespectful, but we've all seen that guy we grew up decide at some point he wanted to be called something else. It doesn't mean they became a different person, they just demanded we call them something different. API is a reminder, and an important one. They were API for 6 decades. The key though is that it's not fabricated. Condescending? Absolutely, but you guys know you're little brother. That's just how it is. If the little brother didn't insist on being so annoying, most of us wouldn't care either way though. I'm one of those, don't even want to play Auburn types personally. I could do without little brother entirely.

I always like to point out that Vandy leads the all-time series with the boogs...

And you'd be wrong.

Well, I stand corrected.

From the SDS website: Vanderbilt’s highest winning percentage, on the strength of a two-game winning streak in the series, is against Auburn at .500.

I also see that ya'll have won 14 of the last 16 to finally tie the all-time series up...:)

Don’t know if being tied would make me feel any better. And the win that tied it up was 23-16.

Edit: They also own an 8 game win streak on you and more conference championships.

They were really good before desegregation.

They had our number before 1960. Not too shocking, as they were 1 of the 2 best programs in the SEC until right around the time Bear came along, then they had a major drop off from which they never recovered.

2 of the last 3 times they played us they caught us having very poor seasons, 2008 before Tommy's firing and 2012 before Gene's.
