Jim McElwain Terminated by Florida

Re: Florida boosters are discussing buyout for Mac

So if Florida fired McElwain mid-season, it would seem to me that they may have already been in discussions with a replacement.

I think they have these candidates on their list.

Dan Mullen
Scott Frost
Lane Kiffin

What say you?

I can't imagine they'd consider Kiffin.

Mullen and Frost seem like the most likely candidates. I think it ends up being Frost.

Re: Florida boosters are discussing buyout for Mac

Anyone keeping tabs on Mrs. Terry's real estate agent?

Re: Florida boosters are discussing buyout for Mac

I winder if Chip Kelly is on their list...
If you are about to fire the guy who took you to the last 2 SECCGs, the replacement had better be someone like Kelly - someone with a winning track record, not an "up and comer".

I don't think a blue-blood like UF should EVER hire an up-and-comer. Sure, it can occasionally work out, but why risk it? It fails more often than it succeeds. Hire a proven winner.

Well of course since the next coach won’t have the luxury of having Butch Jones bailing him out to get him to Atlanta. ;)

Anyways. The big names going around are Stoops, Frost, Mullen, and Kelly. There are a few lesser names. But I certainly don’t think Randy Shannon to pull an Orgeron scenario.

Steve Spurrier was an up and comer, and so, too, Urban Meyer.

I don't in any way disagree with you, but they've hit the jackpot twice that way. Of course, Mac might be the regression to the mean.

Re: Florida boosters are discussing buyout for Mac

McElwain finished his Florida head coaching career with 22 wins and 12 losses.

It’s hard to believe that a back-to-back division-winning coach has been relieved of his duties midway through his third season.

-------------------

I predict UF will pay for a long time and through multiple orifi for this stupidity. No coach could have won this year with the losses they have dealt with due to stolen credit cards and injuries. Why would any coach take on a job with an employer that expects the tooth fairy, Easter bunny and Santa Claus rolled into one person.

Urban had a BCS win before going to Florida. Granted it was against Pittsburgh.

Re: Florida boosters are discussing buyout for Mac

I still revert to Clay Travis's Tweet yesterday.....

Love to see the Twitter melt down if Florida fired Jim McElwain & hired Jon Gruden before Tennessee fired Butch Jones.

And missed with Zook, Muschamp, and McElwain.

Not great odds when you looks at what those three did compared to the winners.

Spurrier also won a conference title at Duke... Duke!

They both were on an upward trajectory though, but it wasn't like teams that go all in on a coordinator or something. Both those guys were successful head coaches.

My UF friends continue to tell me it’s Kelly or bust.
There's some elements of that, that seem pretty risky. But he's about the only hire that would make this firing make any sense. At least with Chip Kelly there's a big upside.

Re: Florida boosters are discussing buyout for Mac

I haven't read all the posts so i may be in the minority, but i think he was in over his head. Florida hasn't really been good during his tenure. His 2 east titles came when the east was terrible. Florida wasn't
even remotely competitive yesterday. "Flippy" Frank's was lost and was holding the ball with open receivers running around. He should have been pulled long before 42 to 0. I knew yesterday he was done.
