Game Thread: OFFICIAL POST-GAME THREAD - Bama vs. Barn...

Funny everyone here thinks play calling and OC lost this game. Face facts out beat up d gave up a lot of plays in crucial moments. Our Offense did not control the line of scrimmage, and in big games trenches wins. We got almost no pressure on their QB. This team is very talented, but with injuries and some major boo boos we lost to a good team. GET over it,and quit finger pointing. This team won 11 straight games, 1 loss does not mean firing OC and benching QB. We are a good team, not a great one. Injuries made a lot of difference in our defensive play. Our offense has play makers but blocking did not always allow the plays to develop. Do we have issues??? OH YEAH, do we need to tear down and do a total rebuild???? NOOOOOOOOOOOO. We looked so flat tonight, that is just how it goes sometimes. I know we all want to win every game by 25 plus points. BUT get real, other teams have great players and that is just a fact. 11-1, so enough for calling for firings and benchings. Just suck it up and put on your big boy pants and admit to the facts. We lost to a team who played better today, period end of story. ROLL TIDE,and trust me no one hates this loss as much as the guys who actually played, so back off them. They put in many hours, and lots of sweat and tears. So act like you appreciate how hard they work to make fans happy. A little ego check is due to some here. Until you make the blocks, ot tackles or call the plays live in a game, cut those who do some slack.

It should've been very clear after the LSU game that we have a very "Blah" offensive game plan. We are working on a "programmed" offensive game plan. We have 1. Run the ball and then 2. Throw long. That's it!!!! There is no creativity or usage of the slots/TE in the intermediate passing. I never thought I would actuall long for the Jet Sweep or the Smoke Draw!

nailed it

You can’t play sub-par and expect to beat agbarn and timely missed calls in their house.
Ridley was almost tackled in the EZ when Hentges almost made the miraculous catch. Missed holding calls galore when their o-line was getting beat.
I saw in the game thread that someone asked about a top o-line coach. It made me wonder if that even exists any more. Seems I read somewhere that the NFL was even having trouble with quality o-line coaches and developing players. Players were getting together and working together to hone their craft over summer because their coach was a former LB or WR and didn’t know the nuances of o-line play.

Honestly, the extent of the holding tonight was BREATHTAKING, but honestly, why Wouldn’t you hold our WRs and DL-LB’s? It’s almost never called!

That was textbook CNS early in the game. Pin 'em deep and don't give them a short field.

Yes, hindsight is 20/20, but in most cases that's the right call. We just didn't expect to give up a 95 yard TD drive. That set the tone.
I understand it, but you can ask my wife or the other people watching the game with me. I was not happy about that. I felt like Alabama needed more for their offense to make plays and less to rely on the banged up defense to bail them out. I'm not bashing Saban, he's the best in the business, but I do fear that Alabama just underestimated the severity of the situation early on.

I'm still proud of our guys. They have done great this year. It could be WAY WORSE, we aren't 0-13 against the SEC...lol

I'm not sure we made ONE third down conversion. When you can't do that, you can't get your defense off the field. Hence, a beat up defense get's tired and the other team controls the game. The job of the OC is to put his players in a position to be successful. With the calls we saw tonight, he didn't do it! Our defense played valient, just as they did in the Championship game last year. I've played football and coached basketball, but if your game plan consists only of run the ball off tackle and throw long something is wrong.

We need to send our entire offensive staff to Norman, OK during the offseason. It’s the kind of O that fans enjoy watching, players like playing in, and it IS effective—with the right QB.

Not a bad idea. Only thing is. I'm not sure Hurts is the kind of accurate Mayfield is. But with our talent we'd outscore everybody, everygame with the right QB.

More importantly, I think we have to decide "who" we are. We look confused on offense against LSU, MSU and Auburn.

Had two third down conversions, I believe. It was an ugly offensive performance.

I am not a Hurts fan boy. However, Hurts played well enough all year and is a much better this year then last year. He is not the issue. I believe Daboll is.

Amen we won titles with QB's that played way below what he has. I felt we leaned on him to much. Always thinking even with bad line play Jalen can make up for it. Our lines on both sides had zero push, they owned the lines, and in this type game those that own the line play own the game.

Auburn was not going to let us beat them in the air to Ridley. If we had thrown deep perfectly to Ridley 10 more times, they would have sacrificed a PI 15 yard penalty each time. It was part of their game plan, and it was the smart thing to do.

The TD completion to Jeudy was beautiful.

I quit letting the actions of 18 to 22 year old males plying a game really affect me so negatively after breaking a hand over Zow throwing a pick vs UF while trying a timing route to Calvin Hall in what should have been a game winning drive. It ain’t worth it.

Hurts isn't Mayfield, but he's still a fantastic QB. He came into this game 6th in total QBR, and 11th in passer efficiency. He has to be used properly though. He's not really a deep pass kind of guy, and he's not Mayfield either. I remember a quote early on from the OC that Alabama's offense hadn't found their identity. I'm still not sure they have. It isn't that the individual pieces are bad, but I'm not sure everything is fitting.

The thing is Daboll is an NFL guy. He was a last second hire. The reality might be that his skill set doesn't fully translate to college, or perhaps that he is still adjusting. I think he draws stuff up that in theory works great, but it's a whole different thing to have amateurs out there trying to execute what you draw up. He's crushed inferior competition, but Alabama's offense has really struggled when it comes to playing good defenses. I don't know what the future holds, but there's no doubt that Alabama can do better.

Can you tell me what plays an OC can call that will work when you entire line is being pushed around?????? YES offense was bad, but in big games if you own the line you own the game. I doubt any play was going to be a consistent winner with both lines getting pushed around. Auburn pushed our O line all day. Our D line got no push, we stuffed the run pretty much but they made the crossing passes as he had all day to throw. Lack of pass rush is killing us this yr even in games we won. Offensive inability to block and open up run lanes and protect and give QB time to throw from pocket killed us. Jalen like any QB is much more accurate when throwing while NOT RUNNING from rushers.

I disagree about them dominating both sides of the line. Payne would have lived in their backfield except...holding our D-line doesn’t exist.

With you on this. I was not second guessing it I was first guessing it. Our 4th and short ratio is incredible. No doubt we would have picked it up.

We had a very poor gameplan today that was relying on hitting deep passes and Auburn was well equipped to stop that with a lot of man/zone mix and down-four pressure.

Coaching staff let the kids down. The kids imploded in the clutch time.
