Mullen to Florida

  • Hi Guest, we are working on updating the site servers and software. We're also 'forcing' everyone to read and agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

Mullen will be a raving success at UF...I believe MSU will slide into the bottom tier unless they can make an equally good hire. OM's move...even on probation...will hurt them as he is known in Mississippi.
I agree - I expect him to bring them back to the top.

I wonder how much of UFs success was him and how much was due to Meyer and Tebow.
There's your answer. Florida probably wins the 2006 NC without Tim, and would have won tons of games the next few years without him - but Tebow was their HC from 2008 until he left, AND their OC in 2009. Had they not had the bad fortune of Saban being at Alabama, UF almost certainly repeats as NC's - they were at least as good, if not better, overall in 2009 than they had been in '08.

Despite Tebow's struggles in the NFL (a completely DIFFERENT game whether we admit it or not) he was (IMO) one of the best to ever play the position in college. It's perhaps an uncomfortable thought, BUT had Mike Shula somehow swayed Tim and his die-hard UF parents, and signed Tebow, Mike might have lasted another 4-5 years as our coach, and NONE of the past 10 seasons would have happened for us.

If he can handle the pressures that comes with being the HC at a school like Florida, it will be a great hire, he will no doubt have an upgrade of talent to run his offense..I bet he will miss not having the spotlight shining on him like he had it at Miss St..
Dan has ALL the other qualities necessary to win and win big at UF.

He's a solid X's and O's coach, he's a great recruiter, runs a reasonably "tight ship", and he's shown a complete willingness to "do what it takes" to get the talent. Remember, his Boosters were actively bidding for $Cum KNEWton back in 2009 - they simply got outbid by aubarn.

The open question will be - Can he handle the Pressure. Look at Denise Fraudchionne and Mike Price - both were HIGHLY Accomplished Coaches, but Neither could handle the Pressure.

How will Dan respond if UF starts slow next fall, and "The Ole' Ball Sack" starts sending plays down to the locker room at halftime????

THAT's what's going to dictate his success or failure there. If Spurrier turns on him,.... Well, he durn sure better win the East and go to ATL Every Single Year, or else keep a bag packed.....

I think he is good hire, but only time and circumstances will tell if he will be successful. Will fans allow him time to turn it around. UF fans like most SEC teams with past success are not real patient.

I'm interested to see how he calls a game when he has talent. Against us at State he'd always try to shorten the game with a lot of possession that went nowhere scoreboard-wise. Almost made that strategy work this year with our down-a-bit-and-injured defense.

This is a terrific hire for UF. I bet Bazza is very happy. I still don't agree with the way they terminated Mac. Mullen will need a QB to be successful, but I bet he finds one. Franks will not be the guy.

He was pretty down on Mullen in one of the other threads, but posts in this thread indicate that he has gotten the memo (literally) to drink the Kool-Aid. :)

Sources tell FootballScoop, Dan Mullen has offered positions at Florida to Mississippi State assistants John Hevesy (offensive line), Billy Gonzales (receivers) and Todd Grantham (defensive coordinator). All three are expected to go with Mullen. Additional staff from Mississippi State are being considered but at this time just those three have been offered positions we are told.
Figured he'd want to bring some of his staff.....

I think he's on the hot seat after year one and doesn't have a chance. He's out of his environment. Time will tell.
I agree. BUT, I thought CBB at Arky and CBD at uCheat were a great hires. For a BAMA fan they turned out great, but for their programs they sucked.

Is it just me, or does Dan Mullen remind anyone else - just the tiniest little bit - of Danny Devito's Penguin character from the Batman movie way back when?

God bless him, but Lane Kiffin cannot help himself...now he's quoting Joel Osteen? Good luck to Dan Mullen...he seems to be a class person who has worked his way up the ladder.

Let me say I’m truly happy for Dan. During the press conference...did he say “Champions of Life?” I did a double take at the TV lol.
