I wonder how much of UFs success was him and how much was due to Meyer and Tebow.
There's your answer. Florida probably wins the 2006 NC without Tim, and would have won tons of games the next few years without him - but Tebow was their HC from 2008 until he left,
AND their OC in 2009. Had they not had the bad fortune of Saban being at Alabama, UF almost certainly repeats as NC's - they were at least as good, if not better, overall in 2009 than they had been in '08.
Despite Tebow's struggles in the NFL (a completely DIFFERENT game whether we admit it or not) he was (IMO) one of the best to ever play the position
in college. It's perhaps an uncomfortable thought, BUT had Mike Shula somehow swayed Tim and his die-hard UF parents, and signed Tebow, Mike might have lasted another 4-5 years as our coach, and NONE of the past 10 seasons would have happened for us.
If he can handle the pressures that comes with being the HC at a school like Florida, it will be a great hire, he will no doubt have an upgrade of talent to run his offense..I bet he will miss not having the spotlight shining on him like he had it at Miss St..
Dan has ALL the other qualities necessary to win and win big at UF.
He's a solid X's and O's coach, he's a great recruiter, runs a reasonably "tight ship", and he's shown a complete willingness to "do what it takes" to get the talent. Remember, his Boosters were actively bidding for $Cum KNEWton back in 2009 - they simply got outbid by aubarn.
The open question will be - Can he handle the Pressure. Look at Denise Fraudchionne and Mike Price - both were HIGHLY Accomplished Coaches, but Neither could handle the Pressure.
How will Dan respond if UF starts slow next fall, and "The Ole' Ball Sack" starts sending plays down to the locker room at halftime????
THAT's what's going to dictate his success or failure there. If Spurrier turns on him,.... Well, he durn sure better win the East and go to ATL
Every Single Year, or else keep a bag packed.....
