Advantages of a Mullen over Kelly hire

-Mullen is 8 years younger and in better physical shape

-Kelly had his best years as head coach at Oregon when he was 46 (Mullen is 45)

-Mullen has 2 national championship rings (Kelly has zero)

-Mullen already been named national coach of the year before age 45

-Mullen does not hate recruiting

-Mullen is very familiar with the best SEC program's defenses (Kelly lost to AUB and LSU)

-Mullen is not tarnished by a "show cause" NCAA penalty like Kelly is

-Mullen knows Gainesville well already

-Mullen already has a working relationship with our AD (Don't need Kelly acting like Mac).

-Mullen has recruited the Southeast for years

-Mullen already has relationships with top past UF players like Tebow

Mullen was always the best choice. He just wasn't the sexy choice.

Wow. This one made me laugh.

Simply meant that he's stepping out of a program where he is absolutely appreciated and revered and he's going to a school that is obviously somewhat over demanding and with football expectations that aren't really realistic right now..
Mcelwain wins two consecutive east titles and gets fired in year three?
If he steps in and wins right away he'll be fine. If it takes awhile he'll be no different than the rest.
It will be very difficult for him to work under that much pressure because he's not used to it.
It's a different environment than Starkville and one I hope he can handle. I actually like him as a coach.

Coach Mullin already poaching Bulldog recruits......

New Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen is hitting the ground running since being hired as UF head coach in Sunday evening. On Monday Mullen arrived in town and began his next stop in the coaching ranks.

On Monday evening Mullen extended his first offer since taking the job at UF when he pulled the trigger on Hinds C.C. wide receiver Stephen Guidry, a Mississippi State commit. Guidry announced the offer on his Twitter account.

Guidry committed to the Bulldogs back in September after previously being committed to LSU.

Yeah, that's not cool.

Hey don't complain to me......he's "your guy"!

IMHO, it all depends on how it was done. For example...you don't denigrate the school you just left - that would be in very poor taste - and also most recruits would not appreciate it.

This recruit was originally an LSU commit and then switched to MSU.

Perhaps Coach Mullen knew he wanted to play for him and wanted to be accommodating.....looks like he was pretty receptive anyway.

I have never been impressed with Chip Kelly and quite frankly I agree that Florida is better off with Kelly in Los Angeles. Two years as a HC is kind of iffy, time will tell how Frost will fare. I said from day one that Dan Mullen was exactly what Florida needed. He is young, 45, apparently can find talent where others can't and develop those players to a high level. The other good news is he is now in a gold mine of talent and no longer has to take leftovers, unless he wants to. With Smart, Muschamp and now Mullen could the pendulum be swinging back toward the SEC (EAST)? Stay tuned.

I agree. I think Florida should have gone after Dan Mullen instead of hiring McElwain.

I think Mullen's old boss being his new boss sealed it. Mullen was comfortable with staying in Starkville with his family and a secured position within that AD. Not saying he had problems with the new AD but he clearly likes working under Strickland.

I think McElwain is a very good coach, he needs to surround himself with assistants that can recruit better. Dan Mullen is heads above most coaches in that he can recruit and develop QB's

Mullen was definitely the safest hire UF could make. And, in the long run, he may be the best hire.

Looks like Nuss is back on the market in case you guys want to make a change........

GAINESVILLE, Fla — New Florida coach Dan Mullen made some staff changes Tuesday.
Mullen has decided not to retain interim coach Randy Shannon, offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier and assistant coaches Robb Akey, Corey Bell, Kerry Dixon II and Greg Nord, sources close to the situation told SEC Country.
Brad Davis, Chris Rumph, Ja’Juan Seider and Tim Skipper are still on staff and will be on the road recruiting this week. Their future roles are still to be determined and there’s no timetable for any official announcements.
SEC Country has confirmed that Billy Gonzales and John Hevesy are now on Florida’s staff, following Mullen over from Mississippi State.
