Load the box to stop the run and double team Ridley. I don't know anything about X's and O's about football, but this is pretty obvious. Hurts is a great competitor and leader, especially in crunch time, but I doubt we win the playoffs with him at QB. Even more concerning is our current OC calling the plays. I think we are in a pickle in this game.

I want nothing more than to win another championship, but the road to success under Saban seems to be a Pro Style QB. I hope I am wrong about this outcome, but I am extremely concerned about Jalen's performance against elite defenses and our OC's play calling.

I don't quite so much mind the style but JH needs to trust his supporting cast (ie, running backs) and not try to carry the full load on himself. He doesn't have to with all the talent we have at the skill positions.
Our OC needs to finally realize that we are better suited to use the run to set up for the pass instead of vice versa. Get the ball to the backs on the perimeter and make the dline chase them. Use the short passing game to demoralize/negate the pass rush of their dline. Just simply do what makes sense and take what the defense is giving you and use it against them.

If I had to guess....I'd predict the game goes down to the wire and whoever turns the ball over the most will lose.

It's going to be a GREAT game and I can't wait! ;)

There's only one ball, and Jalen gets it first. I don't think he wants to give it away.

It’s one thing to comment on facts - “Jalen has not been doing a good job distributing the ball.” It’s another thing entirely to pin the reason on a character flaw - “he’s selfish,” which is what you’re implying if not outright stating. There’s nothing in Jalen’s demeanor or history to suggest that.

Google “fundamental attribution error” sometime...

I don't need to google anything. I said "I don't think". This is my opinion and I will stick with it. I think he has a hero attitude.

Not so long ago many stacked the box when we did not have a dynamic passer. We still ran over folks. Stacking the box to stop the run only works if your guys are tougher and better than their guys. I have seen no one shut down this run game completely. I would bet good money if we had to play an entire game without passing, we could still win. Would have to change up some run things but, if you are better there is no one secret to stopping any team.many a team win games passing 5-10 times a game. You just have to scheme and mainly EXECUTE better than the opponent. Not saying it would be easy, but if Bama plays their best we can beat clemson with 90% run attack. If this D shuts them down, 2 TD's could be enough. Not saying it would or is going to happen, but nothing is a sure thing. Bama in years past beat great teams with nothing but the run, and with our RB's if anyone could do it today, it would be this team. I am not 100% convinced that loading the box can stop this run game if our line plays to their potential.

Welcome to Tidefans, Paul Johnson...

Not sure why so many find it hard to believe, for decades no one passed, and now most pass a lot. There is no one right way, you can win games in a lot of ways. For the stat junkies go look it up, I have seen teams win games with the worst run and or pass stats. There is more than one way to skin a cat.

Jalen Hurts has lost two.....I repeat, TWO......games as a starting quarterback who began as a freshman.

In one of those games, the offense he was leading scored THIRTY-ONE points.......against an "elite defense".......

Jalen Hurts isn't the one who gave up 511 yards offense.....
He isn't the one who got flagged for 9 penalties for another 82 yards......

He has his flaws, yes.

He's also a sophomore for Pete's sake.

I think you go with who brought you to the dance. It's not all on the QB, we have developed something of a hero/savior complex about just one player. It will take 50 players all executing to beat Cleamson. This is the Bama way.

You don't win every game. Clemson would be a tough nut if Brady was back there.

Don't need to google. I keep a dictionary handy.;)

Reminds me of Clint Eastwood in “In the Line of Fire:

Lilly Raines: [in a conference room] What makes you think he'll call again?

Frank Horrigan: Oh, he'll call again. He's got, uh, "panache."

Lilly Raines: Panache?

Frank Horrigan: Yeah, it means flamboyance.

Lilly Raines: Mm, I know what it means.

Frank Horrigan: Really? I had to look it up.

FWIW, I remember Coach Bryant said one time "three things happened when you throw a pass, and two of the are bad", or words to that effect.

If they load the box and double Ridley, you can destroy them simply by lining Ridley up on the left side of the formation and having him run deeper routes on every play. It would totally open up the rest of the field. Yes, your best WR would be a diversion, but every other receiver would be open immediately on the side of the field on which Jalen is a very, very good passer. It would also open up the left side of the field for naked screens all day long.

When the defense corrects, move Ridley back to the right side of the field and throw to him again.
