Great....another way for Louisiana residents to waste their money.....

apparently they are going to let it happen in Louisiana -- but let each Parish decide.

Alabama should allow sports betting parlors. They already have Dog, Horse, Bingo and Indian gaming, with no professional teams to worry about legalized sports betting could be a huge revenue source for the State

I had a conversation with a teacher once in which I called the lottery "a tax on stupidity." She told me she plays the lottery every week and I realized my statement was too harsh. Gambling is a tax on irrational optimism. If you've got the money to waste on it, I guess it's okay, but I would not recommend it. The House always wins, or they would not be in the business.

And yes, Alabama could use the revenue.

Apparently the illegal sports betting business is estimated to be $150 billion a year market. It seems silly to let that continue without profiting from it IMO.

So could online poker and a lot of other things but being smart doesn't go hand in hand with Alabama's leadership.

Not to mention that the federal government has no business telling people that cannot gamble.

I choose not to gamble - it doesn't interest me - but this is similar to the 'no liquor sales on Sunday' laws that are finally beginning to fade away...

I agree - but shouldn't that then mean the government owes you nothing should you gamble everything away? Right now -- that's not the case. All they have to do is call it an illness -- and then, the safety net kicks in.....

What's wrong with the gambling we got?*

*Hopefully a reference that's not too obscure
Not sure what you were going for, but that about sums up the objection to craft beer that finally became legal in Alabama, but which is still burdened with onerous regulation on distribution.

The house always wins against the crowd but there's always a winner.

I've played casinos, but I think that's quite different than playing the lottery. I think sports gambling is different from those two. Better in some ways, worse in others.

The morning show on JOX stated that Alabama is second per capita in illegal sports gambling. I have no link to substantiate but I wouldn’t doubt it .

You got it. Every time there's opposition to removing dumb regulation I think of Alvin Holmes.
