People. Can't. Totally. Disrespect. Others. Without. Consequences.

What part of that interaction looked like teacher/student? Kid was banking on fear of losing his job keeping that man from doing what he did. There is always a line and that kid crossed it. Could've been worse, could've been somewhere and someone that didn't get stopped.

I get what you are saying, but the consequence must fit the crime. "Sticks and Stones" kind of thing. Schools have policies in place that address this kind of thing. A kid calls you a mean name, you don't get to physically touch him. In my classroom, the student would have been escorted to the office and written up. Then I would file the paperwork to have him transferred to another comparable class.

In the real world, those may very well have been "fighting" words. Not in a high school classroom. Not for a teacher. Look at it another way: Is there any other profession where it is ok to assault a minor for being disrespectful? Can doctors do that? Accountants? The manager at Mickey D's?

My wife has been a school teacher for right at 20 years. She's had kids scream at her, threaten her life and call her a m-f'n bee-eye and all sorts of other "nice" names. Even had one kid throw a stapler at her. But not one of those situations over the years would physically assaulting the kid been an acceptable form of action. She would have been given her walking papers immediately.

It would be an awful precedence to set if this type retaliation were allowed and would definitely be a "slippery slope" type scenario. It would probably go the way of a lot of self defense/"stand your ground" laws. The interpretation and application would progressively get "looser" and "looser" until knocking a kids' teeth out for raising their voice would become acceptable.

The fact that so many people are in the teachers corner shows you how screwed up this country is right now. Throwing punches is not the way to fight racism, even though more and more seem to think it is an acceptable solution. In fact, it only helps reinforce the beliefs of these hateful people. I'm sorry but, the teacher deserves jail time.

A teacher should never resort to something like this.

The kid probably deserved a beatdown, and I wouldn't quarrel with one of his peers giving him a lesson, but not a person in a position of authority.
I'm afraid I have to agree. The teacher should just tell the kid he is wracking up a bunch of punishment for failure to comply with a teacher's directions. Video should have been the teacher's friend ("See, Mr. and Mrs. Littlebastard, your Littlebastard son repeatedly refused to comply with reasonable directions from a teacher. If we are going to avoid a physical altercation in school, minor children are going to have to comply with directions as long as those directions are not illegal, immoral or dangerous."
Instead, the video will now be accompanied with a different soundtrack by the Littlebastards' attorney: "See Mr. School Superintendent. Your employee struck the first blow, against a kid twenty years and fifty pounds his junior. Please take out your check book and write a check to my clients in the sum of ____ to avoid litigation which you will surely lose once we produce this video in court."

The Spoiler recommends The Claw highly.

And Waldo von Erich has a riding crop the teacher can borrow.

Heh. "From the Sportatorium in Dallas, Texas ......" Loved regional wrestling back in the day. The von Erich claw was a great gimmick, but my favorite was Bam Bam Terry Gordy's oriental spike. The idea that he returned from Japan having learned to jam his thumb into the side of an opponent's neck with devastating consequences ..... well, that's just awesome.

We used to go to wrestling in Jackson MS after hitting Happy Hour at the bars, and cheer for the heels just because that ...... off the wrestling fans.

We were late one night, and for some reason they were holding the matches in the Trade Center. Dick Murdock walked out of side door in the cold night, cursing like a storm and holding his head. Apparently, a chair must have hit its' mark.

Ouch. Being on the receiving end of a chair is not a recommended way to make a living.

It can hurt pretty badly if the target is just off from the right spots on the head that you try to take the hits on. Still not a recommended way to make a living but I briefly had some fun helping out some friends for a few matches.

I was always partial to The Armstrongs: Bullet Bob, Brad, and Scott. They would come to the old Gadsden Coliseum once a year...Good times!
Went to a few shows with Brad and Scott, and tried to put on a show with them in Selma. They were pretty decent guys. My two friends that I helped out were the sons of Dangerous Donnie (also the Rockin' Rebel when he was a face) if anyone remembers him. He was with the Armstrongs a lot around here.

That's pretty cool. What kind of things would you do for the shows?
First couple of them I was just the “enforcer” outside of the ring helping them cheat to win against the others. Third show was a hardcore match. Barbed wire bat (Lucille before she got a name), trash cans, chairs, all that good stuff. My main part was getting put through a table although whoever got the table got the kind with the metal strip around it & it just about killed the guy that jumped off the entrance ramp when the table broke but the metal didn’t move & hit him in the throat.

Had a couple of old ladies that came to all the shows that made getting our pre-planned stuff done tough. They would hit us with little bats, throw water in our faces etc (no guardrails at the show). It made for some funny moments with us taunting them & running just out of their reach but was a pain when we had to setup tables and such where they were sitting.

That's good stuff. (Well, not for the guy who close-lined himself on the metal bar ...) Makes for some good stories.

When I still lived in Jackson, I used to go the YMCA to lift weights after work. There was a guy in there who was doing some serious 'roids. I got to know him pretty well. He was an apprentice wrestler, the guys they throw in as raw meat for the stars to beat up every night.

One day, he came in the gym with a huge shiner on his eye. I asked him what happened to him. He said, "I got hit by a chair in Shreveport on Saturday night."

Another semi-amusing thing from the hardcore match was my friend getting sprayed with a fire extinguisher. Only someone got the wrong kind of fire extinguisher (a recurring theme it seems) and he took a face full of chemicals. He was in the bathroom after the match sick as a dog and trying to wash his eyes out. Tried to take him to the hospital but he refused before going in and was fine after a day or two.

The other main story from back then (2000-2001) is trying to create our own wrestling company. We had spent a while plotting out storylines for 5-6 shows, were going an extra step on trying to make it a nicer environment for the wrestlers such as providing free food/drinks backstage which is rare; as well as better pay - for example on the shows we wrestled the three of us got $20. Not each.

We had rented a place in Selma, passed out flyers, promoted it, had all the wrestlers there, had fans starting to arrive and buying tickets. Only one thing missing- the ring. lol. The guy we were renting the ring from supposedly had flat tires and kept saying he was going to be there but never showed up the night before the show. We were told he would get them fixed and show up the day of the show and we'd put the ring up as quickly as possible. Never showed up the day of the show and stopped returning calls. All of the wrestlers were saying "screw it, we'll just do this on the concrete floor" and we were going to try to put on a show for the fans anyway. However without our knowledge the VFW guy we were renting from was going around arena and standing outside the venue telling everyone the show was cancelled before we had even decided that. At that point it all fell apart. Steve Armstrong did offer me a chance to come help out his own promotion down in South Alabama/Florida but I was so bummed out about the event failing that I didn't follow through on it at the time.

I still have my suspicions that one of the other local promoters setup the ring not to arrive as that business can be pretty cutthroat.
