Plans for Tonight -

Re: Plans for Tomorrow Night -

I don't notice a limited side view.
Depends on where you have the TV. I have a friend with a curved TV and if you stand much more than 45% off center, the picture is unwatchable. But most people don't put chairs that far off center. Also, the glare when off center can be terrible - he has to close his blinds on sunny days.

No subwoofer. Just a Samsung sound bar. On topic of Gameday plans. Anyone Else get some new Bama gear for Christmas and still gonna wear the old faithful that you have been wearing?
We all got new gear but will wear "game tested" gear tomorrow.

Re: Plans for Tomorrow Night -

I've tried a few times watching in groups, even taking a laptop and minding the game thread at the same time. Maybe it's age, but I just can't do it any more. People are talking and laughing, not really watching the game, while I'm watching every little detail the cameras will show me. Nowadays, it's just in the company of my wife, who's actually a pretty acute observer, although she doesn't watch every second like I do...

I know exactly what you mean. I've been with people in big Bama games who didn't even know who won the game once it ended. I've learned over the years that a lot of the people who watch college football don't actually care about college football. It's a cultural thing, and that's fine, but I can't do that. I need to actually hear the announcers and keep up with what is going on in as much detail as possible. A lot of thought goes into where and with whom I watch the game. If I choose to watch a big Bama game with someone, it's a big thing for me. It's like inviting someone to a wedding, but more intimate. Not many people understand this.

Re: Plans for Tomorrow Night -

I’ll be upstairs in my Bama room. Watching in my same game worn clothes that have seen a lot of Alabama football and all the championships since ‘09. They are worn out but I refuse to change them all the way down to my crimson boxers. Watching by myself and the wife will be downstairs taking care of the new puppy praying Bama wins for her sake!

I sit right in front. The wife usually prefers the chair off to the side (70 degrees or so). The OLED is as watchable there as from straight on. Closest thing to plasma I've found and with updated color palette and other features.

As for 4k, DirecTV has one or two channels that have it and that's about it. They have shown some sports in 4k but don't know if any games are on the schedule since I have not updated yet since I'd lose my recorded games and other shows. Maybe next year.

Re: Plans for Tomorrow Night -

The EscaTider crew is at Disney. Nice outdoor bar at the resort. May go that route, or will end up watching in the room. Crowds are too large everywhere else. Tried weeks ago to get a reservation at the ESPN club at Disney's Boardwalk, to no avail.

Landed here this aft, Esca, as part of an odyssey which began with our Uber driver spinning out and hitting the guardrail on the way to the airport at 5:00 this morning.

And that was just the beginning...

I'll probably end up watching at the resort.

With my hunnee, who's not a fan, watching something else on one of the other TV's.

Which, like Probius, suits me juuuuuuuust fine...

Roll Tide brother!

100% accurate. The wife is a project manager for AT&T and had a bunch of DirecTV integration projects. DTV offers some movies (PPV) in 4K and has a couple of channels in 4K. They had a few college games in 4K this year but, IIRC mostly Big 10 matchups. The cost of filming in 4K is still very expensive. Some UHD TV's say they will up convert to near 4K but, the near 4K is about as legit as claims made by a politician.

In regards to tomorrow night, will likely stop by two of the four Tide in Texas watch party locations between 4pm & 6pm before going to my buddies house to watch the game. When BAMA wins, may have to go visit an OU buddy at his restaurant/bar.:cool:

Re: Plans for Tomorrow Night -

Wife and I will be at the game, having just arrived in Miami. In the past 2 weeks I've flown from Washington to Salt Lake to Bama to Virginia to Washington to Charlotte to Washington to Bama then a drive down to Miami. Some flights were business, some pleasure.

This trip though.....all business.

I’m the same, everyone leaves the house when Bama plays! Everyone!

Re: Plans for Tomorrow Night -

After saying the above, I am planning a 24 hour victory party early Sunday morning!

Re: Plans for Tomorrow Night -

Couldn't deal with the limited side view of the curved screen. Will be watching on the 65" LG OLED after eating steaks.

I have a 65” LG OLED. by far the best TV picture. When I first bought my OLED, I could tell that TV shows were shot in a studio, as the backgrounds looked fake. It almost ruined TV for me. I’ve gotten use to though, so no problem now. Football looks great. Have it paired with an Onkyo HT S9700. Everyone comes to my house for movies, can’t take me though for football games!

Best that I've seen. There are some other fantastic TV's, but this one is one step beyond.
