Early thoughts on Clemson

Trevor Lawrence in 14 games this year:

54 rushing attempts for 157 yards. So yea, not overly concerned with his legs. Sure, he may make a run here or there if we lose contain but nothing compared to Kyler Murray.

Just to compare with Tua through 14 games this year:

53 rushing attempts for 199 yards. That's with Tua sitting out 4th quarters and having a bum knee for the last half of the season..

Sure, he might pick up one or two first downs with his legs in the game. So might Tua. Heck, even Fromm could do that (he has -22 yards rushing on the season). I am not concerned about that in the least.

With Murray you had to contain - with Lawrence, you are going to rush the passer. Lawrence is going to get hit many times in this game. When ND got to him, he was dramatically affected. Alabama is a far better pass rushing team than ND.

IMO, this game all comes down to Tua. If he plays his game, you win going away.

Agreed on all of that brother. Your last statement is why I am not worried in the least.

Clemson is not nearly as secure at the backup qb position as Bama, so while they will run Lawrence, I don’t see them doing it to the level Oklahoma did. Unlike Bama/Hurts, Clemson was unable to convince Bryant to stay so they have a pretty good dropoff if something doeshappento TL.

Tua looked great when he played a real defense in UGA.

Yah because LSU, MSU, and Auburn were all pushovers, right?

I hope to God the rest of the Clemson team thinks Tua is a an empty suit exposed in the GA game. Please please please play him like you believe that to be true.

You have people saying that TL was affected by ND yet can't take it when its thrown back in your face? OU literally has the worst pass defense in college football and 108 overall. ND is top 20 like it or not.

Just initial thought .....

1. At the moment, I'm sort of worried about the secondary against Clemson. Hopefully, we can get a big enough pass rush to hurry throws.

2. We are not going to be able to pound it like we did against OU.

Tua was hurt on the first drive of the GA game. He is now healthy. Now, if Tua get injured in the game, I get your point. But if Tua is healthy, Clemson is not going to win this game. You have a very good team, but this Alabama team is special.

I don't care about OU. I didn't list OU.

I'm also not one of the people citing TL's performance against ND. I'm saying, if you really think Tua is overrated because of the GA game, I hope your team believes the same.

My thoughts are that TL is immensely talents but also young. He certainly seems to possess all the tools but youth at the QB position, regardless of talent (Kyler Muray played against Bama when he was with A&M as a true frosh and the results were disastrous) is often taken advantage of when playing against Saban.

I don't think it's a stretch to say that TL will need to play the best game of his career to beat Alabama and that his lack of experience is certainly not helpful.

If you want to have a serious football discussion then stop the trolling and let's talk football.

Otherwise, your visit is going to be short on this board.

So I am trolling yet others can throw shots when convenient and pick apart a few games or plays here or there? Got it.

Yep - very valid concerns, but I think that you will affect Lawrence enough that this will not create enough points for Clemson to win, and I think that both teams will struggle running the ball.

This game is going to be fairly equal in the trenches. The QB play is the key - who plays better under pressure. Advantage (huge advantage) to Tua there.

I don't think he is overrated just pointing out a snip it in time if others are going to do the same and not look at the overall body of work. I already said that Bama has the slight advantage. It will be a great game and both teams are fairly equal with play makers and advantages in different aspects of the game.

I have seen this before so I will take the liberty, sorry if stepping on any toes. This is our house, you are the visitor. Comments such as yours disturb my happy place. We come here to talk bama football and be safe from the mess that goes on on the rest of the boards, so I have heard. This is the only one I frequent. We will appreciate your analysis and show you all the respect you are due. The mods will throw you out of you keep up the one liners in the football thread. It adds absolutely no value to the conversation.

Not sure where this narrative is that TL was "affected" by ND. Kid played great...Sacked once, forced out of the pocket a couple times. ND dl isn't Bama, but it's better than GA. Clemson went very conservative in the 2nd half.. this is why the transitive rule being used in sports (whether for outcomes or performance) is a real reach.

Don't think bama performance v. the citadel has much to do with anything.

We actually like Lawrence, but he is a true freshman who is not as good when under pressure. You see that, right?

What you did was not the same because you know that Tua was hurt on the first drive of that game. That had nothing to do with pressure or GA - that was an injury.
