News Article: Tua doesn't have to play against LSU.

I just wonder how short of a leash CNS will have if Tua is struggling due to the surgery/injury? I hope it doesn't get to that point but it is something that he may possibly be presented with. I still think we can win with Mac Jones in the game. It will just look different.

JMO, but I don't see Saban playing Tua unless he is sure that Tua can do the job. Saban will have to adjust if he turns out to be wrong.

I think if you can get him 3-4 drives -- and put some points up early --
Get a few stops and then bleed the clock.....he'd do that.....

I think we see quite a few jet sweeps either way..... LSU is known to be slow on the DL -- and if you start pulling LBers with jet sweeps, it opens the slants up even more...

I hope Tua can play and is effective (90 percent or more) and does not get hurt during the game. I know Mac had a great game vs Arkansas, but they are the worst team in the SEC. LSU is much more difficult. I think we could still win with Mac, but I just don't know for sure. LSU will plan for both.

I hope Saban and Golding and all the defensive coaches come up with a good plan and show some different looks. I think the game will come down to a few key defensive plays and maybe even a field goal.

Yeah, but I just don't see Saban playing Tua if he is that limited.

LSU's defense isn't the LSU defense of old. They are prone to giving up a lot more yards than they are accustomed to. I quickly scrolled over several of their games and giving up 350+ yards (with Florida and Texas going for over 400 total yards each) isn't uncommon. Just some food for thought on that one.

I hope you are right, but I think their defense is better than at beginning of the year when they had 3 starters on defense out. They are pretty healthy now on both sides.

They are also completely without a dominant pass rusher for the first time that I can remember. I am not sure how they can get to Tua with your line. You will struggle to run on them, but you may have 500 yards in the air.

Goodness, have you totally lost faith in the rest of the team and in Coach Saban?

Yep. It appears some on here seem to think without Tua we are worse than Auburn with Bo Nix at QB. They played LSWho to a 3 pt game in Baton Rouge so thinking we can't win w/o Tua in Bryant-Denny Stadium is mind numbing to me.

Problem is that, with their offense and our defense, I'm not sure we can do that...

The fact that Florida and Auburn kept their games close against LSU with inexperienced QB's definitely points to their defense not being as strong as in past years. Viewed Murf Baldwin's look at how the Auburn Defense played against LSU to pressure receivers to take away the slant throws that have been easy for Burrow up to this point, while getting good push from the defensive line to have him feel pressure in his face. Steele had a good game plan going in.

The main question I have is if the Alabama defense can prevent Burrow from putting together long drives with short throws, getting Helaire free on the edge or converting third downs with his feet.

A healthy Tua should be able to put up points but the question remains to me can the Bama defense hold Burrow and the LSU offense to the type of numbers that Auburn did?

Short answer - Yes. You have better DBs. Your worst DB is better than Auburn's best DB. You will play a mixture of man and zone, but mostly man. Man defense is what frustrated Burrow.

But the reality is - Alabama is going to score 40+ points. Even if you give up 30+ points to LSU, you will still win, and I don't see them scoring more than 31.

Sure.

Remember that time he took over Mike Shula's players and won the 2007 national championship? Ya shoulda seen it.

I get what you are saying but he came within a 4th and 4 stop w/3 min left vs LSU of beating the eventual NCs and winning the SEC West with the 5th best talent. They collapsed after CMA called that PA pass vs MSU just before the half. Saban did a fabulous job that year til then.

My worry isn't Diggs or Surtain. It's our ILBs and Carter. Both have been picked on at times this year and I'm pretty sure Jefferson plays the majority of his snaps in the slot. I honestly wonder if we would be better off giving someone a shot outside (maybe give Jobe another shot?) so that we can move Surtain inside.

This article is pretty terrible. Beat LSU, and we control our own destiny even if we were to lose to Auburn since we would be in the SECCG and a one loss SEC champ is in. Lose to LSU and we no longer control our destiny and are likely on the outside looking in for the CFP. Therefore, Tua needs to play.
