I thought it would be good to have a centralized place to knock this around.

We (kinda) know what we have in Mack. Lia and Tysen have some time in the program. Bryce Young is the new young buck with crazy potential.

How does it unfold???

* Mac starts next year, is a Heisman finalist and leaves for the NFL.

* BY is his backup, takes over the starting job as a true sophomore

* Lia stays to continue to learn - leaves after the season

* No idea about Paul Tyson, but he won't see many snaps.

* Maye signs in December to keep the QB room full of talent

This is what I hope happens. Mac leaving early to get Young in would be ideal if Young is all he's cracked up to be. My concern is Mac playing two years and will Young wait...

This sounds great. I'll sign up for that

I think he would if he is getting enough snaps as the backup.

Lia leaving is something that I think will probably happen. The T's love Alabama but they love their kids more, and if Tua is starting for the Dolphins in 2021 I would almost expect Lia to be at the U, FAU, FIU, wherever his talent level takes him.

We just need to get through a successful 2020. After that the staff will work their magic to make sure we are covered with the talent we need to continue our successful run.

I agree that MJ starts next year. I think if Lia had the "Tua magic" he might have unseated MJ this year but he didn't.

That doesn't mean Lia is not a very good QB. According to 247, Lia was a 4 star and #180 ranked player nationally.

But Bryce Young is just another level. 247 had him as a 5 star and #6 ranked player nationally. Huge difference....according to them.

I think if BY doesn't have a clear path to starting by 2021 (if he doesn't do that before then) he'll be looking to transfer. The only thing that might possibly keep him from doing so is MJ having a "Joe Burrow" year next year and MJ entering the draft this time next year.

IMO, Tyson is likely out of the picture.

So here's my prediction: MJ starts and he either "balls out" and keeps BY at bay OR, if MJ struggles BY enters the picture by midseason. We might even know by week 4 (after Georgia) what might happen.

Lia likely transfers in 2021.

I think Mac Jones gets the start against USC but I do think Bryce Young takes over as the starter at some point during the season. Since Young originally committed to USC it would be quite interesting if he were to end up coming into that game in relief to lead us to victory. I think Taulia transfers because he's probably the #3 QB next season.

Lots of "can't miss" qb prospects & "can't miss" prospects in general, do, in fact "miss". While Young looks good as a high school qb, I'll wait until he actually proves it against college players. If he, or anyone else, gets their dander up because they want playing time, they are free to leave. Honestly, I hope Jones works out well, #5 takes his place when he leaves & so on. It usually doesn't work out the way I would like, though.:)

Ahh, a QB controversy in T-Town. This will preoccupy us all through the Spring, offseason and into Fall camp. I like Mac. He has two years head start on playbook. If he stays healthy, will be a strong contender. Watch out for Lia. Kid is extremely talented and routinely overlooked in the shadow of his brother. Strong candidate in his second year. Tyson and Young, just do not know what they can do in live action. Raw talent is there but Spring ball will give a look at exactly how they can compete as the starter.

CNS won't do it as a stunt, but I'd be shocked if BY didn't play against USC in the opener. Depending on how BY does this spring (and we'll hear the rumors one way or another), it could set up for as a similar situation to when Blake Barnett "started' the game and Jalen took over and didn't let it go until "you know who."

By all accounts, CNS "loves" BY and there's no indication he's gonna cause problems. But make no mistake about it. Tua set off a new trend and that is true freshmen come in ready to play very early. BY is after that mold.

Not only will he have a two year head start in the offense. He'll also be 22 years old when the season starts. Joe Burrow was 22 (turned 23 in October 2019) last season. There's a big difference between an 18 year old, fresh out of HS, and a 22 year old who's been in the football program going on four years AND in a college atmosphere for 4 years. That doesn't need to be discounted.

Mac will have a massive advantage because of how well he has played this year. Young is an elite talent and has a chance, but it's gonna be a tough task. I don't think Lia or Tyson have much of a chance here. Not because they're not good players, we're just loaded at QB right now.

I'm not disagreeing with you but there are probably countless other blue chip recruits that he has "loved" that just didn't pan out, for whatever reason. The teenage brain is a strange thing, of course. I hope this kid is the phenom in college that he was in high school. He sure looks good. Only time will tell.

I get it....but it's the new reality.

Everything changed with Jalen and Tua. We are now recruiting at such a high level.

The best QBs come out of HS ready to play in the kind of offense we run now. We might as well get used to this cycle of every 2 to 3 years of having the next "big thing" he will press a player in front of him.

It fascinates me because I can remember just a few years ago (before the internet) when the only time you heard about recruiting was on signing day in Feb. Then, you didn't hear much about those guys until they'd been in the program for at least two years (after a RS year and sitting on the bench their RS freshmen year). It was super rare to hear about a true freshman playing AT ANY POSITION much less at QB. As a matter of fact, just a few years ago there used to be a widely accepted slogan that suggested "for every true freshmen you start you'll have that many losses by year-end." That's certainly not true anymore!!!

High Schools now run legitimate offenses. That means that the QBs show up with skills that translate immediately. Add the difference in the way that QBs are coached now in HS - with real QB coaching and clinics - and you get guys ready to contribute at even the biggest schools right away. There have always been a few who could play right away, but now there are probably 10-15 every year ready to play.
