There’s a reason why Democrats complain about the EC but don’t do anything about it. There are tons of conservatives in CA, but there are tons of people in LA and SF to drown them out in an EC system. There is a conservative part of California?

there's not much they can do to eliminate the ec short of an amendment which is pretty much a non-starter.There’s a reason why Democrats complain about the EC but don’t do anything about it. There have been two failed attempts to remove it since 1945, but it usually lost steam with "what do we replace it with?". Which I think the idea of a true popular vote is by far the worst suggestion. Probably a parliamentary system is the only realistic way in which you replace the EC, but there is going to be severe pushback when folks realize you have rapid change every 4 years.there's not much they can do to eliminate the ec short of an amendment which is pretty much a non-starter.
If a Republican wins the popular vote then you would see that rescinded before the next election.california is a part of the national popular vote interstate compact.
I do not think that it could be eliminated, but it could be changed in such a way that it would effectively be eliminated. You see, the states are not required to cast their EC votes for the person who wins in their state. They can cast their votes for any candidate. There is an effort to get states to sign a pact in which they would cast all of their EC votes for the candidate who wins the popular vote across America, even if their state voted otherwise. All they need is enough states to join to carry 270 EC votes. There have been two failed attempts to remove it since 1945, but it usually lost steam with "what do we replace it with?". they don't have a great track record on that the last 3 decadesThere have been two failed attempts to remove it since 1945, but it usually lost steam with "what do we replace it with?". All good in theory, but they wont get 270 unless hell freezes over. Plus with the Justices that Trump is putting in, it would probably be deemed unconstitutional if it ever got closeI do not think that it could be eliminated, but it could be changed in such a way that it would effectively be eliminated. But its going to look dumb when they do win because we would have a Reagan like sweep.they don't have a great track record on that the last 3 decades![]()
we'll have a chance to see what that looks like if bernie is the nomineeBut its going to look dumb when they do win because we would have a Reagan like sweep.
It cannot be deemed unconstitutional as it is allowed by the constitution. Read the 12th Amendment. All good in theory, but they wont get 270 unless hell freezes over. Plus with the Justices that Trump is putting in, it would probably be deemed unconstitutional if it ever got close
yeah, that doesn't actually matter to the gopIt cannot be deemed unconstitutional as it is allowed by the constitution. Read the 12th Amendment.
When we get to the point that the GOP has totally burned the Constitution, elections will be the least of our worries.yeah, that doesn't actually matter to the gop
If the possibility for 6-3 Supreme Court didn't exist then I would almost be willing to see the Trump-Sanders matchup just to see if the progressives really can put their money where their mouth is. But the election is too important.we'll have a chance to see what that looks like if bernie is the nominee
we are getting awfully close to this. they are making it obvious that they don't think the law applies to them. When we get to the point that the GOP has totally burned the Constitution, elections will be the least of our worries.
and you think it matters to the democrats? Neither side cares about the constitution. They only care about what helps them get reelected.yeah, that doesn't actually matter to the gop
much more than it does to the gop.and you think it matters to the democrats? Neither side cares about the constitution. They only care about what helps them get reelected.
The sooner you realize both sides only tell you what you want to hear, the better off you will be. Both sides only care about votes. Half the time I don't think they believe the crap they spew out.much more than it does to the gop.
In Alabama that is just Tuesday. We nearly elected a guy who drew a pistol on his audience, and still let him run this time around.I thought it was illegal to threaten a US Congressman. That was clearly a threat, and this is a continuation of his obstruction of justice.
My guess is the spin would be "freedom of speech". That seems to be the go to for crap like this.I thought it was illegal to threaten a US Congressman. That was clearly a threat, and this is a continuation of his obstruction of justice.
