South by Southwest laid off a third of its 175 employees as a result of the cancellation. One of David's "hot" clients, Ashley McBride, was coming here in the next two weeks. It's up in the air, along with many others, Mary Chapin Carpenter, etc...
They did not get out ahead of this with testing. If anything, they were very slow to test adequately. No idea why their numbers are low. They have the oldest population on the planet.

on the culture front that Japanese, due to living in such high numbers in very tight spaces are very, very sensitive to spreading infection. It is completely expected in Japanese culture to wear a mask when sick etc.
Below is the quote on which I'm basing my calculations. I did this earlier today based on an every five day doubling and the results were sobering. Reports tonight are that there are almost or just over 1,000 cases in the United States tonight so I will use 1,000 current cases and 32 deaths as the starting point and we will double every four days based on guidance from ADEM as noted below.
Using those benchmarks, there will be in 28 days' time:
128,000 CoViD-19 cases in the United States along with
4,096 deaths - assuming the case fatality rate remains the same.
In 60 days there will be in the US, according to this very simple model:
32,768,000 cases
1,048,576 deaths
This does not take into account any mitigating or exacerbating factors or public health measures. I would not depend on warm weather, luck, a hunch, or even hand washing to stop this from happening.
DO NOT PANIC!!! Do prepare. Do DEMAND that your government does a better job NOW to prevent this.
We need to work TOGETHER to stop this. I don't give a rat's ass what party you belong to. We are all in the same boat and what affects one of us affects all of us - no man is an island unto himself. We NEED each other and we need to pull in the same direction. I hope we remember how to do that as Americans, regardless of party, regardless of Trump, regardless of any damn thing else.
Those types of numbers are staring the whole world in the face and the only thing that has stopped it has been massive public health efforts like in China and Italy.
Please just keep your social distance and be smart and DEMAND your government do its first job - protecting us from harm.

The Alabama Department of Health has tested fewer than 20 people for COVID-19, according to officials there. None has tested positive.

Total numbers: Mainland China has now confirmed 80,778 coronavirus patients, 61,475 of whom have recovered and been discharged from hospitals. The death toll in mainland China now stands at 3,158.

Someone will be along soon to gaslight us on this, but why are they telling the lab to stop testing? Is there a valid reason (like the test is not certified yet)?
my best guess is that the answer to the first question is pr management and the answer to the second is no.

On warm weather taking care of this we already know that it won't. It is spreading in Australia and Singapore, both very hot right now

WSFA did a report this morning on testing. I'm not sure the producers even read these crap stories before the spew them on air.
They said that if you have symptoms to call the health department and request getting tested. They then said the the health department will not test anyone who hasn't seen a primary care doctor first so, they said to also go to a doctor. Then they said you have to meet these criteria to get tested.
1- Been in contact with someone with coronavirus. Of course, no one in the state has it so that rules most of us out.
2 - Have traveled from an infected area.
3 - Have a temp of >104 and trouble breathing, basically you need hospitalization.
There is nothing new about those criteria, I just find it funny that it contradicts the first part of the story where they tell people to get test if they have the symptoms. I bet there are 100s, of cases across this state that we have no clue about because they are not on death's door yet.

but Pence tells us that anyone who wants a test can get one (But I am pretty sure that is just for congress)
Pence has never been good at telling the truth.
P.S. On the lab issue above - if certification for the test is the issue they need to expedite the approval instead of telling the lab to stop testing.
been watching this guy for a couple of days now and his stuff is great. To the point, easy to understand and sobering
