Gus Malzahn fired (and (laughable) coaching search...)

After seeing that in this morning's early morning read through, I think it is safe to say, DABO aint ever coming "home" to mama with that buyout. So we can all relax when Coach decides to hang up his practice hat and go fishing.
Unless, there is an exception for the Alabama job...

So if a coach has a “Bama multiplier” on the buyout in their contract, I’m wondering if there is a “Auburn proration” in the contract? You know, kind of like a “going away” present because they know the rest of their career will suck....

If Steele gets the job, then that will be a MUCH larger blunder than the hiring of Chizik. First off, the barn will have paid close to $22 million to keep everything the way it was. Steele likes Morris, so Morris stays put. So...more Gus ball. No QB development, etc. Plus, if they thought that Chizik's 5-19 record was bad, it can't hold a candle to Steele's. Try 9-36. And...for the real kicker.....1-31 in Big 12 conference games. 1-31 in the weak butt Big 12. That's what they are signing up for. And unlike Chizik, Steele won't accidentally trip over a once in a lifetime QB. And....of course, no former assistant of Saban's has ever beaten Saban. Will it ever happen? The longer he coaches, naturally, the more the probability goes up. However, it will NOT be Kevin Steele that does it. Bottom line, if KS gets the job, then they will be looking for another head coach again within 2-3 years.

I don't know about that. Gus always liked to tinker with the offense (no matter who was OC) so that won't be around anymore. Now whether that's an improvement we'll have to wait a see.

Given the notion a couple of the money guys were reported to be on the hook for Gus’ buyout and leveraging it to push to go with Steele as the new HC, that might very well be the plan anyway. Keep Steele, minimize the cost of assistant coaches’ buyouts by keeping some of them and in a couple years Steel “retires” (he is 62 I believe). We all know the rank and file “lusts” for Freeze or Kiffin. Kiffin can’t take another black eye by bailing on another SEC school after a year and Freeze is still on the NCAA radar. Two or three years can make a difference in perception for both. Then they make a move.

Just a thought.

Yep, seeing the timing and the circumstances (COVID19) surrounding collegiate sports, this could very well be their line of thinking. Which to be honest, isn't the worst in the world, especially if you're looking at it with a financial component involved.

I am not going to give them that much credit for having a "plan ahead" strategy. But, in all honesty, if they are that smart, I do agree with you.

Well there is also a Bama multiplier to his contract. So it’s more if we got him
Well, that's good and bad news to me.

The good news is it means (hopefully) that Bama won't be wiling to pay the exorbitant rate Coach Karen's contract will require should they pursue her.

The bad news is there's enough evidence of that sideways glance that Clempson felt it necessary to include it in the contract.

The good news, Dabo has the power to name his terms at Clemson and he agreed to let them write that into his contract. Dabo has no intention of leaving Clemson.

As much as I want to believe this, Meyer had similar wording in his contract at Florida and still left.

Where there's a will...

Wait. You're talking about the same OC Chad Morris who led that offensive powerhouse Arkansas to a 0 and a gazillion SEC won-loss record?
