I don't know but if your end game is to disarm a military by enticing them to sell their weapons you just store them in a warehouse and they show up on the battlefield in the future. Ain't much different than stealing cattle and horses. 'Cept horse thieves were hanged.

Is there a 5.56 market in Russia?

My question is where was the market for our M16 rounds? Not the Taliban. I've been paying attention and I haven't seen a Taliban combatant with anything other than an AK47, which don't accept a 5.56 round.
FN (Belgian) firearms are all over Asia - I've seen tons of them in various images. Many of FN's firearms are chambered in 5.56 (most every European NATO country has a firearm chambered in 5.56).

So really, that ammo is likely hard to find outside of US/NATO/Afghan troops and there are quite a few 'non-M4' platform rifles chambered in 5.56.

I don't care the situation, heads should (figuratively, lol, not being all taliban here) roll over the amount of taxpayer-funded gear left behind.

First, it makes it appear the US got its butt kicked and ran away ASAP.

Second, that's a crap-ton of tax dollars left behind that will undoubtedly be used to kill US folks and our allies.

SMH at the incredible wastefulness of the US government. I'm sick of how careless they are with our tax dollars.

LOL - America is NATO. Without America, there is no NATO. The rest of the world literally does nothing while we spend and bleed for them.
There were a large number of soldiers and civilians from NATO countries in Afghanistan at the request of the US. The only time NATO Article V has been invoked was by the US in the days after September 11, 2001. The NATO allies responded. Now, some of them feel the US left them in the lurch.
I just read that little Belgium has sent 2 C-130 cargo planes and an A-400M (which is a substantial portion of her military air transport fleet) to evacuate her citizens from Afghanistan.

My dad has said this for (literally) YEARS, that any involvement past this point would not have a good ending. Well, here we are...

and I can only imagine lunch this upcoming Sunday at my parent's house after church.
If Alexander the Great, the Brits, and the Soviets couldn't completely tame that country, what kind of hubris did it take to make us think we could mold that country into our own image.

Hint: they don't.

They're acting moderate while the world is watching, but as soon as the troops are gone they'll be back to their barbaric ways. Guaranteed.
And as if on cue, reports are coming out from all over Afghanistan of brutal beating and killings of civilians - including women and children - by the 'new and improved' Taliban. Not going to link the tweets here but there are some really awful images already coming out.

These dirtbags are going to undo 20 years of progress for the Afghans in a few weeks' time.

Well Alexander’s goal wasn’t to conquer it or establish colonies. His goal was to keep a road open to India and defeat the remnants of the Persians. Done both. Won the war with the Bactrians.

Everyone else tried to colonize and dominate. The US could have had better results had they gotten out at specific points of time in the last 20 years.

“Do you think if you get General Aidid, we will simply put down our weapons and adopt American democracy? That the killing will stop? We know this. Without victory, there will be no peace. There will always be killing, see? This is how things are in our world. In Somalia, killing is negotiation”. (Black Hawk Down)

Afghanistan is closer to Somalia than Iran. Yet we treat Iran as a back water country and hyped up American modernization in Afghanistan. Yet Iran is far more modernized and American 42 years after direct American influence left than Afghanistan ever was in 20 years of American occupation and rebuilding. Afghanistan is where the rejects of the civilized world go to live out their stubbornness.
