This one cracked me up. I know it will draw the usual "I prefer our players do their talking on the field" comments, but I loved it! :biggrin2:

"-- KENNY WHO? A reporter who was working on a story about the SEC's best running backs ran into a brick wall when he tried to question Bay Minette product Wallace Gilberry about Auburn's Kenny Irons.
"Kenny who?" Gilberry asked back. "Kenneth Darby?"
No, Kenny Irons, the reporter replied.
"Put that in the paper, 'Kenny who?'" Gilberry emphasized.

Done. "

I imagine the entire team is a little po'd about Ken Darby not getting much respect in the preseason.

The quote was buried in an article about DJ Hall's status. Here's the link:

One of my favorite plays by Gilberry was during the '05 UT game when he recovered the fumble then ran to the sideline handing CJK the ball...

When stallingsstyle brought this up this morning I thought the most telling quote was about setting the first practice pace. We should hear something in about 4-5 hours. It's getting close.

I suggest along with the off the field "big talk" that we do something on the field, DURING the Iron Bowl.....and preferably before the score is 28-0 and game out of reach. All the big talk paper clippings don't make a tackle once you get between the white lines. It's fine and dandy to talk big outside the white lines but after you talk in the paper clippings don't let "Kenny Who" beat the breaks off you when game time comes and it's time to strap'em on.

I'm not an advocate of trash talking another team or player in the media BEFORE a game, especially when your team has lost the last four meetings, and the last meeting was one of the most embarrassing beat downs in Iron Bowl history. Win the game first.

Yeah, "Kenny Who?" was funny, but the field is where it matters. I don't want the barner's calling the Iron Bowl, the Irons' Bowl, because Bama was to busy talking off field to concentrate on beating the barn. KD is already fired up about the lack of respect for him as an SEC RB, and that translates to a better performance on the field. Let's not get the barner's Ken fired up too.

I could careless what paper clipping we give Auburn...our guys want it more this year...I sense it.

I think most know that I am critical of trash talking however, I did not see this as trash talking but that Wallace Gilberry didn't appreciate the disrespect towards his teammate.

I would remind Wallace that Irons is the runningback who shredded us pretty good last year. This football team is doing an awful lot of talking for one that has lost 4 straight to Auburn. It turns my stomach to hear Alabama players talking like this. And Shula needs to do something about it.

No offense but if you would have asked the players apart of the previous four Barn losses (before the game) "who wanted it more" I can almost guarantee you the response would have been "we want it more".

I understand where you're coming from and I'm not trying to refute your point. I'm just saying that after four consecutive losses the pregrame "we're gonna do this.." and "we want it" mores get old. Win the game then talk your smack.

Guys,
Again, I think he is more upset about K.D. being disrespected than anything. Think about it. You are one of K.D.'s teammates and a reporter comes to you and says that he is doing an article on the best runningbacks in the SEC. He then asks you about Kenny Irons and doesn't mention K.D., is that not an insult to K.D.? He is one of the best in the SEC if not the best. If you are K.D.'s teammate, are you not going to be angry that the reporter disrespected you teammate?

The question was asked precisely to produce this sort of response. It would be like a reporter asking Kindal Moorehead what he thought about Suan Alexander setting a new Seattle playoff rushing record against his Carolina Panthers during the 34-14 pummling suffered during last year's NFC Championship game.

The reporter knew Bama players have a sore spot about Iron's performance against them in last year's Iron Bowl and that they also believe Darby was slighted in pre-season SEC picks. He went for a certain response and he got it. End of story. RTR.

I dont think it matters what posters think it was not classy or who thought it wasnt a big deal....if Shula thinks it was out of line then he will deal with it, regardless of what yall think. :BigA:

Torch,
I agree that he could have handled it better but I was making a point that I did not take it as trash talking as much as a response to having a teammate insulted.
I do disagree with you that it was a classless remark. If he was an adult I would agree with you but you know how a teenager will normally respond in a situation like that. I know that I did not always make the proper response when someone atagonized me when I was young.

Hey I agree with you in that regard. And yes, where I was going is that our season is about unfinished business. Which is a code-worded sort of way of saying: "try to win a SEC title and give Auburn our best shot". McClain, Darby, Castille, and the other leaders know that they and the team didn't leave their best effort on the field last November in Auburn. If there is any guy who I'd trust to take care of this undone work, it would be Darby and McClain.

I kind of like the talk. It seems like our guys haven’t been very up for the Iron Bowl lately. Why? Who knows. It’s one of the biggest games of the year. There’s no excuse for coming out flat in this game. I think finally our guys are tired of being man handled by the barn and this is how that emotion comes out. Is it a bit classless? Probably. But at least they’re showing some emotion toward this game. But you also have to get it done on the field.
