The Good, The Bad and The Ugly…. USU Aggie style-

The Good- the first position group that I was most worried about performed fantasticly…. That being the receivers. Bryce was Bryce. I really like our RB room. The first team defense is a beast!

The Bad - the second position group that I was most was about has moved into the pole position… that being the offensive line. I am hoping that the coaches can make some adjustments. Otherwise it will be a long year.

The Ugly- games like this can’t be good for the psyche of USU. I hope the payoff was worth it

Good: The intensity and focus are there. The talent is as good as it has ever been. I am 100% confident about that remark with the defense, which is as good or better than 2016. On offense, I need to see the OL and WR more to be sure. But Bryce and the RBs are fantastic.

Bad: Yeah the OL was a little shaky at times but they are clearly figuring things out with the rotation and Utah State deserves credit for some of the things they were doing to mix up their rush packages. The lob INT by Milroe was unfortunate. The punt block was disappointing but inconsequential.

Ugly: that Nick Saban cartoon. Although I did laugh.

Good: BY and his young brigade of receivers AND great defensive performance!

Bad: Jalen Milroe lobbing a pass to Law across the middle. Law caught it but took an awful shot.

Ugly: the blocked punt. Burnip could have been hurt badly!

The Good: The defense was as advertised. The shut out. The WRs were great. No injuries.

The Bad: The run game had issues in the first half. CNS said the Aggies were playing to stop the run.

The Ugly: Blocked punt.

The Absurd - ya know, our powerhouse offense only scored 7 more points than Shula's did in 2004, and he was crippled by sanctions so.....how good are we really when Saban can barely outpoint Shula despite all his advantages?

The good...we did not play a perfect game and have several areas to work on -- interior rushing and punt blocking.
The bad -- this defense looked great no matter who was playing. They will have to keep their edge.
The Ugly -- I would say the punt block except that it shows up a definitive weakness that we need to address.

If teams improve the most from their first to second games, then we should see some dramatic improvement in these areas in Austin next Saturday.

The Good - the defense and the quality depth. Anderson and company with the first team will actually be BETTER because CNS can give them a series off here and there without worrying too much about mistakes.

The Bad: Tyler Harrell not seeing the field due to a foot injury. We need him as the “take the top off the defense” deep threat. Not saying others receivers can’t, but his presence will make the others better.

Ugly - Line play (mostly first quarter) and punt block. Randolph had a couple of misses and Robbie Outz got beat leading to Bryce’s sack. The punt block was just a complete break down in assignments.

All in all, I’m left with the feeling this team has the opportunity to be one of the best of the CNS era. Great leadership and what appears to be very good chemistry. That will depend on continuing to improve and avoiding the injury bug.

To be fair, tight ends vs defensive ends are generally a mismatch in the defenses favor.

The good: The team came out with their hair on fire. They did not take USU for granted. The defense looks like it is on a mission. Offensive line needs to gel a little more, and they will, but all in all was solid for first game.

The Bad: the punt block - no excuse for that.

The ugly: Our defensive back pushing the blocker into the receiver and tackling them both.

 

[4Q Basket Case]

Good — Traeshon Holden’s combination of speed (good, not great), hands and strength (great). Kobe Prentice showing that Saban’s praise was well-founded. Jase McClellan looked to be fully recovered from last year’s ACL.

Dominating win, but enough stuff for coaches to fuss about, because…..

Bad — OL run blocking, especially early on. Pass blocking was much improved over last year, but run blocking looked like 2021 until later in the game when Utah State just wanted to go home.

Ugly — Blocked punt. That should never happen.

I agree. Not a big fan of Rodgers. You can tell he spends a lot of time staring at himself in the mirror.
