Is anyone scared to death about the DT depth next year?

We have only Washington and Fanney and they are pretty light weight. Maybe we should look for a big JC DT that can come in December. It looks like a huge problem

Don't forget about Brandon Deadrick. He was the only one of the freshmen DTs to play saturday night. Throw Walton in there too. But yep, it will be young next season.

Brandon Fanney, Justin Johnson, Lorenzo Washington, Byron Walton and Dedrick all return. 2006 commitments from Nick Gentry, LaMarcus Williams and Alfred McCullough so far. Brian Motley from our last recruiting class may play on the DL as well. I'm not ready to jump off a bridge because of depth.

I've noticed this deficiency coming for 2 years. I believe CJK will shift another de ( he's already moved Deadrick to dt). He may move Gilberry. He may also change to a 3 man front as he ran Saturday. I don't like the 3 man, but we may not have a choice. It's hard to find a juco who can come in and play immediately and I haven't heard any mentioned as prospects. We'll see.

Deadrick has been moved to DT and he is a red-shirt freshman this year. Also, Byron Walton is a red-shirt freshman DT.

I think Alfred McCollough, Nick Gentry, LaMarcus Williams and Kerry Murphy (assuming we get him and he qualifies) are going to have to come in ready to play.

I think Washington, Fanney and Deadrick will all be a little bigger this time next year, but since Shula has been the head coach, our DTs have been on the small side for the SEC.

Some of the LBs have been a on the small side by SEC standards. It is because our defense is built for speed. I understand what you are saying, but I think the DTs are small because this is what the coaches want.:)

The emphasis on defense is speed, speed, speed, speed.:)

Gilberry played inside during the second half of the game on Saturday. Deadrick has already been moved inside as well. That is a decent start, especially with Gilberry's motor. I really don't mind the idea of recruiting good DE's and continually building them into interior DL.

Yep,we will be young and very inexperienced.........2 very bad things. however,we should be able to recruit very well b/c of this need at this position.
On returning players B Fanny and ZO W seem to be having problems adding bulk and at least one will most likely end up at DE b/c of it. Also,J Johnson is a walk-on which has never been counted on to help.It appears BD has little problem adding bulk and may stay at DT,otherwise at least 2 newcomers will see PT next year.

I noticed that too. I also think I saw Greenwood line up inside a couple of snaps, but I could be wrong. My guess is this will be the answer to any depth problems at DT, moving our DE depth to the inside.

I know its the wrong board, but tell Corley that he'll be moved to DT and he'll be wearing blue next fall, IMO. I have problems with that trend (bulking up DEs) when it comes to recruiting.

What about that big DT from Georgia (Arky/Bama battle that Bama won for '05 class) that went to JUCO at Stover's school?

We will be in serious trouble next year IF the four younger guys don't begin the process of improving their play. As far as the guys that played inside Saturday, remember that guys like Greenwood/Gilberry/etc. are not going to be DT's... CJK uses them to increase pass pressure on obvious passing downs (vs. Hawaii, every down is a passing down) when using 3/4 man fronts. Add to the DT is the fact that we will be loosing two starting LB's... not great news unless we get some depth built this season. As I've mentioned before, we need some blowout games this year so that these young guys can get the maximum reps possible.
